Great Great Restaurant 1/1/2008

STK was one of the best restaurants I've eaten at. I have been on many corporate trips and have eaten at a fair amount of 4-5 star restaurants. This restaurant was recommended to me by a work colleague who grew up in New York. I was looking for a sexy restaurant with just as much appeal in the surroundings as there would be on my plate. My boyfriend of and I came here before New Years to celebrate the holiday and our 3 year anniversary. The tuna tartare was the best I ever had, lamb chops and pepper ribeye steak (on special that night) were tender enough to cut with a fork and beautifully plated. Do yourself a favor and try the dirty martini with blue cheese stuffed olives or the strawberry martini made with real puree and rimmed with graham cracker crust. Our server was very attentive to our needs, but not overwhelming and persistent/annoying. Hostesses were polite, and initially sat us, then moved us to a more comfortable location. Coat check was friendly and prompt. You get what you pay for. Quality and excellence both to the eyes and pallette. more

I came here on a wed nite around 8 and the place had a nice crowd nice 80's music playing witch i loved by the way . Good bartenders , good staff your treated very nice in this up scale rest, the good thing that i loved about stk is that you don't even have to come to dinner you could just stop by for drinks and enjoy your night mite even meet some one special . I recommend stk to the fullest extent. Hey maybe i'll see you there :) Pros: bar scene , the nice exotic warm look Cons: parking , catch a cab more

Best place for a Saturday Night 11/25/2007

I also came here on Saturday the 24th with a group of six and my experience was completely opposite of the person below me. It had been my second time at STK, the first was for dinner with my company earlier this year which was also a great experience but this trip back was one of the best ideas. This dinner was meant to be a little holiday get together with my husband's family and my sister. When we first got there the people at the door were very pleasant and the place was packed. The maitre d said we had enough time for a drink at the bar so I thought we were in for a long wait. The bar is beautiful and I love how its in the center of the restaurant. The fire place is a very chic touch. Our bartender Blake was very cool and even with the massive crowd had time to recommend and describe a whole round of delicious drinks. The dirty christy is by far the best martini ive ever had with the gigantic olives. After finishing half of our drinks and spending a pretty penny at the bar the hostess came to us and said to pay the check with the bar and she will be back. She took us to a great table in the middle of the dining room which impressed me because there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of tables in the restaurant and this was the place to be seen. My Husband and I are moderately attractive so I took it as a compliment. Our waiter Shawlee was extremely helpful and fit perfectly into the setting of the place. The food was well portioned and delicious which had my mother in law raving. I had the shrimp rice krispies which succeeded in its role as an appetizer and the filet was the most tender cut of stake id ever had. Also the blue cheese butter sauce is amazingly simple but so good. Im not much of a foodie but I like good food and after my meal I actually felt refreshed. Even as we were waiting for our coats, which did seem to take forever, we had a great conversation with Michael who gave us some really great tips on where to continue the evening. Pros: Food, Service, Attractive Staff, Dirty Christy Cons: Long wait for coat check more

Average 11/17/2007

You come to STK for the bar scene, not to eat. The food here is just average with service that is too busy to be attentive and and a great decor that is shunted by the over-crowded bar and the noise it generates. Pros: Great scene and decor Cons: Average food, very crowded and noisy more

Put a STK in it! 11/13/2007

My background - Have lived here in NYC for the last 10 years, and a total foodie. Besides growing up in the food industry, I have eaten most everywhere in NYC, from to Criff Dogs to Nobu. Went to STK for a friend?s birthday on Tuesday night. The decor mimics any one of the 6 dozen lounges in Manhattan. Noticed immediately the place was loaded with models, and the older sad men who were footing the bill (seriously, each table had at least 4 models, and two guys). We had reservations for 10pm, and must say the 5 of us were seated pretty quickly. We were not sure who our main waiter was, as we had a least 3 people ask us for an order at different times! Bread was brought over, with two miniscule slivers of butter. I asked for more 2 times, but it did not come until after our main course had arrived. Our food did come VERY quick, and I felt like they were trying to turn the table over faster then Red Lobster. The Mac & Cheese was very good, the rest of the sides were so-so (Parmesan Fries, mashed potatoes, & asparagus). I had the lamb porterhouse, it was just OK. I tried a piece of both of my friends skirt steak....Not sure how anyone can make a bland Skirt Steak, but they succeeded. While our meal was going on, the tables at 12 and 3 o'clock were each having a make out session! The table of about 10 models across from us kept getting up in groups of no less then 5, in what I can only imagine were group purging breaks. On return they would hang just out in the aisle, blocking the staff....who strangely remained silent. All in all, if you want to OVERPAY for MEDIOCRE food, and eat in a hectic lounge like atmosphere, then this is your place. Pros: The Mac & Cheese Cons: Overpriced Drinks, Mediocre Food, Poor Service more

OVER RATED 10/9/2007

Monday night was my first time to STK and it will probably be my last. Myself and twenty of my friends who all work in the resturarnt trade, went to STK's for a 30th birthday, because we where a large group they told us we had to take a private room with a set menu upstairs, which was $75 per person. The food was pretty boring, and for $75 I would of hoped for a Filet and not the piece of steak we got, afterall this is supposed to be a steak house ???? we where never offered tea/coffe with dessert and when the bill came we where charged for 5 people that didn't show. I can understand if this place was booked out,but we where the only private room upstairs and there where about four tables downstairs. I have no problem spending money when I go out to dine however when you have a $3000 check at the end of the night, you really don't want to be hungry an hour or two later , or sober for that matter :) The decor of the space is really nice , however our visit there was not memoriable. Pros: Decor Cons: Price, Food more

Forget the bad reviews 9/6/2007

So i read all the other reviews and i am stunned. STK is an amazing place with a great vibe awesome food and a friendly staff. The dishes that sold me to STK are the mac and cheese so tasty and creamy, the chicken blt which is melt in your mouth good, and the pb&j sundae. Ross is one the best servers ,extremeley knowledgeable and friendly, and is a joy. So ingore the other reviews. STK isnt your traditional steakhouse and it is not trying to be. its in a class by itself more

Great Night 8/19/2007

I dined at this uber cute restaurant on Fri. night and was immediately blown away by the energy I felt as soon as I passed through the dark, glass doors. The place was packed with beautiful people and had an awesome interior! Our favorite selections were the Jumbo Lump Crab salad and the Big Eye Tuna entree among a number of mouth wartering dishes. Try the Peanut Butter&Jelly dessert if you get the chance. Great spot for either a girls/guys night out or a first date! Lolz! more

STK = FAB 7/25/2007

I celebrated my birthday at STK and it was a great night. The restaurant is super-cool, yet doesn't try too hard. It was kind of slow that night, but it was a Sunday after all. The tuna tartare was one of the best I've had, and the small filet medallion with blue butter sauce was amazing. The parmesean truffle fries were a hit amongst my group, but we love truffle, we love cheese and we love fries - so no surprise there. I would reccommend (and have many times) for anyone looking for a great meal, to go to STK. more

Ups & Downs 7/22/2007

So here is my review...I think people should tell you a little about them when they post reviews so you can see if they are your type of person...because you can read a review and the person says it was bad but they have a totally different lifestyle than you so their bad and your bad are not the same...so I am a married 30ish person that considers myself in the know, African American Brooklyn girl, working class? me and husband bring in a low 6 figure income. Anyway I went with my 3 girls, (cousin, sister, and friend) on Sat. 07/21/07 most of the reviews I read were right so here is the run down. THE PROS: Cream Corn Pudding - AMAZING, Shrimp Rice Krispies - Delicious, Mashed Potatoes - Nice & Creamy, Steak - OK. Three of us has skirt steak. I had the butter sauce which was good. Tempest Storm drink - Tasty. THE CONS: Even with reservations you have to wait for your table, like 20 minutes. TOO LOUD, it's like a club....fun for some and even me 5 years ago... but you can't have a conversation nor can you hear the waitress. But the song selection was great. A little pricey for the portion sizes and everything was a la carte. The crowd was mixed, majority of Caucasians, and a sprinkle of everything else. You can tell that people come here to be seen. Over all it was a nice place to take my cousin since she was just visiting New York, I will go back (especially for the corn pudding) but it will not be on a regular basis. Pros: Corn Pudding, Shrimp Rice Krispies Cons: LOUD MUSIC, a little pricey more

stk is an experience 7/9/2007

stk is fantastic. yes their hostess staff could be a lil more friendly then chilly, but basically you are going for the food and the atmosphere. the parmasan truffle fries and the mac and cheese yummmy. the medium stk skirt with the bold stk sauce so good, and of coruse you have to have warm smores. staff is friendly and the wait is long but once you sit down its worth it. more

Extremely loud crowd. 6/28/2007

Not only are the speakers blasting music to the loudest extent, the crowd tends to speak a little too loud, shouting over each other. Food is mediocre. For appetizers my friends and I ordered the beef tartare, tuna tartare, lump crab meat, and a salad(forget which one). For entrees we ordered the spice crusted big eye tuna, filet mignon, porterhouse steak, skirt steak, and the medallion steak. For sides we had their spinach and truffle fries. Yes, it was a lot of food. Everything was just "ok", not impressive. Definitely make a reservation in advance. We left at about 11pm and people were still coming in for dinner. Pros: Truffle fries. Cons: Loud. more

Rockin steak house in the heart of the M.P.D. 6/12/2007

It's been open for a while and and everybody has already raved about the place but adding to the pile on of praise let me say that my steak was awesome, the creamed corn was phenomenal and the mood was happening at 7pm on a tuesday night...I've actually been disappointed with most steak houses over the last couple of years...I'm totally over all the Peter Luger wannabees...This was different...This made me happy to be in a steak house again. Pros: Food & Vibe Cons: none more

STK is GRT 6/11/2007

this a fun place, and after work it's a great place to go for drinks, steaks, salads, and whatever else - a fun place to meet people Pros: lots of pros Cons: few cons more

Cherry cosmos, oysters, filet, and s'mores oh my! 6/3/2007

A friend ("F") and I went in on a Sunday evening for dinner and conversation. I arrived early so I sat at the bar and enjoyed a "Rediscovered Cherry Cosmo." It was a delicious. F joined me in one as well. The hostesses were nice and we were seated promptly (duh, it's a Sunday night). Our server, Kristen, came right over and made mention of the raw bar. The oysters caught my attention and I made them my appetizer. I hadn't eaten an oyster before so Kristen very patiently suggested how I might go about doing that. They were scrumptious! F had the blue iceberg salad and he seemed to enjoy it. We both settled on the 10 oz. filet - F had his medium and mine was medium rare. For sides, we decided on sweet corn pudding and asparagus. My filet was perfection (it was served with a blue butter sauce, which I dipped into and enjoyed. I prefer to have my steak without much "interference" so I simply tasted the sauce and put it aside). F thought his steak was a bit smaller and Kristen suggested it was because it was cooked longer. Other than that concern, I think F enjoyed the steak. The sides were tasty and I'd definitely want to taste all of them during future visits. We also shared a bottle of Iron Horse pinot noir...it was velvety and bursting with fruit flavours. So wonderful! For dessert, F had the warm chocolate molten cake and I had the warm chocolate s'more. Both were tasty. Overall, I'd say the meal was top notch. Kristen was a wonderful server. She was very patient with our questions and clearly knew the menu. Some of the fellas trying to clear away our dishes were a bit pushy, but they were never rude. We also closed the restaurant so any reasonable person can understand why they'd want us to get the heck out of there. The hostesses were not rude...very welcoming. I would definitely recommend this place for a full-on dinner or just drinks. Quite nice! more

nice scene, snarky service 5/22/2007

Party of 3 arrived at 6:45p for a business dinner. Dining room was practically empty. Drinks and food were great, and we would have had a spotless time if it were not for the service. At the beginning of dessert, they dropped the check off at the table without us asking - and we were still planning on our last round of drinks! Steak is best left to the tried and true steakhouses. This place is better for the apps and drinks than the meat. . . more

Rudest hostesses 5/19/2007

The RUDEST hostesses I've ever encountered. good food and people watching. but they seriously must do something with the attitude of these women or no one in our group of 20 will be coming back. Pros: Good food, people-watching Cons: rude staff more

Great spot long wait! 5/16/2007

STK wouldnt be my first choice for a steakhouse, but when i walked into the space, its very trendy. Even though we waited for our table even with a reservation, they have a great bar scene, dirty bird martini was my fave. Finally we got to sit down and we sat in the back booth near the dj, probably the best seats are in the back. I had the iceberg salad which was fantastic, the medium skirt steak, and the molten chocolate cake was a dream! besidess waiting and the music being a bit louder than normal, the atmosphere suggests fun and sexiness. Pros: food, atmosphere Cons: waiting more

I met my future husband! 5/16/2007

Okay, so I am a HUGE Grey's Anatomy fan. like...HUGE. I went to STK this past Monday for dinner with some friends. It took a little longer than I would have liked to be seated, but it was definetly worth the wait. Why? Because the entire cast of Grey's Anatomy was a table away! Plus, the food was great! So I got to eat some scrumptious steak (size small, of course), while watching my future husband (Dr. McSteamy) eating his steak. I can't decide which was better...the view, or the steak. hmmmm. let's leave it at both were pretty amazing! Pros: food, decor, drinks Cons: wait more

Had a Great Time... 5/15/2007

Went on Monday, whole cast from Grey's Anatomy walked in... How fantastic!!! The skirt with Blue Butter was awesome... And the Blue iceberg salad shouldn't be missed... Didn't have enough to drink??? Try the Tequila Bread Pudding... more

  • STK artfully blends the modern steakhouse and a chic lounge into one, offering a dynamic, fine dining experience, with the superior quality of a traditional steakhouse. NYC’s premier year-round rooftop featuring skyline and highline views.

Editorial
  • The Scene
Picture windows along the facade show off the pretty crowd like mannequins at neighboring boutiques. Stark black-and-white accents, from faux elephant tusks flanking the bar to the shiny ebony leather lining the lounge, infuse the space with contrast. A live DJ clinches the clubby mood.

    The Food
Meat portions, divided into small, medium and large cuts, are all generous; the humbly named "Little T," for example, offers a quality 10-ounce T-bone. A selection of garden salads--like a mache, crab, melon and avocado mix--will appease those concerned with fitting into designer duds, while lightly curried scallops garnished with peas are a seafood standout. Some mains, like the bland short ribs, don't fare as well, though any dish can be saved by the parmesan-truffle fries--a stack of lightly crisped potato rectangles packing salty-earthy power in each bite. A fruit salad punched up with black pepper provides a refreshing but assertive ending.
