Anna Marie is truly a genius! Saved my hair and my self-confidence! Before going to Anne Marie I had a horrible experience at a different (very posh) salon .. Being new to the city I didn't know where to go. I wanted to get my highlights touched up in my originally blond hair. All I needed was a slight touch-up, but I ended up with a totally different color which was between orange and yellow. So now not only my highlights were gone, but I had a yellow base. I found Anne Marie online and scheduled an appointment for a free consultation. (For the next day!) I went in with pictures and Anne Marie new in a heartbeat what I was looking for and new exactly what went wrong in the first place. She seemed very confident and ready to solve the problem. So I stayed and I still don't know how, but she got me back to my regular base color with beautiful highlights in about an hour. I didn't have to wait and she was very good at listening to what I needed. She gave me back my natural-looking, ashy blonde hair. She's a coloring master, I won't ever let anyone else touch my hair again. Lesson learned! more

After countless failed attempts to find a colorist who would correct my over-processed, uneven, dull dyed black hair, I had begun to lose all hope that my hair could ever be brought back to a healthy, natural state. This all changed on the day that I went to see AnnaMarie. Even before meeting her in person, she gave me reassurance over the phone, that everything would be okay. On the day of my appointment, as soon as I sat down in her salon chair, I knew I had found my hair angel. She knew exactly what to do so that my hair would look beautiful again. I have been to many different hair colorists throughout my life, and until AnnaMarie, I had never met anyone with such color expertise and grace. She not only transformed my color and perfectly matched it to my skin tone, but she kindly instructed me on simple, inexpensive ways to bring my hair back to life. I originally went in for a color correction, but AnnaMarie will forever be my hair colorist. more

Last night I was in tears, contemplating whether to shave my head or, somehow, keep it covered for the next year. I had a serious Hair Color Nightmare; thankfully, because of Annemarie from Rubann Hair Salon, my story has a happy ending. Up until a couple months ago, I had been okay with the person who was coloring my hair. Then, one day, I got home after having my hair colored and looked in the mirror. I saw a mop of dark reddish-purple with carrot accents mixed in with my medium-brown curls with golden highlights. In fact, when I looked closer, I realized that my hair had more colors than Baskin-Robbins has flavors! I decided to live with it for a month, when I'd have to go back and have my roots done. So, last week, I returned to the salon for my monthly touch-up. I told the stylist I wanted the color lighter, less red and evened out. I thought everything looked fine when I left, but when I got home and looked into my not-so-friendly mirror, I almost screamed! I thought my hair had an entire spectrum of color before, but I wasn't prepared for the range of blacks, purples, fuchsias and neon oranges that now crowned my head. A 2""-wide ring of BLACK circled the front of my head, from ear to ear, and was striped, zebra-style, with wavy strands of orange and purple--colors that don't do a lot for my pale skin and blue eyes. So, I called the salon and made an appointment to have my color fixed. And that's where you came in--last night, me in tears. It was hard to imagine that my hair could have ended up looking worse after being ""fixed,"" but it did--A LOT!!!! I stayed up over half the night researching who in the city could save my hair. I narrowed my findings down to five people, and then read as much as I could about each. While they all seemed like they might be up to the challenge, the one person whom EVERYONE just couldn't praise enough was Annemarie from Rubann Salon. Anyone who discussed Annemarie did so with such reverence--as if she were some kind of miracle-worker. I figured, even if she weren't a miracle-worker, she sounded as if she could at least make my mane resemble something human. After a sleepless night, I called Rubann and spoke with Annemarie. I explained what had happened, and she asked if I could come in within the hour, and, of course, I said yes. When I got to the salon, the receptionists at the front desk were extremely friendly, as was the woman who gave me the robe to change into. I was escorted to a chair, and within moments Annemarie--who would soon become my savior--appeared. She studied my hair, then brought me a book with different hair colors to see which one I wanted my hair to most closely resemble. Then she got to work. In a matter of no time, she had painted dozens and dozens of sections of my hair and enclosed them in sheets of foil. There was so much silver in my hair, if the sun had been shining in, I would have had third-degree burns! There is no one nicer, calmer, more reassuring, kinder than Annemarie. You can't help but love her!!! She promised me I would leave happy, and three hours later, I did. Well, actually, that's not quite true. I left ECSTATIC!!! Annemarie hadn't just fixed the mess so that I could actually be seen in public again, she had made my hair look better than it ever had!!! In fact, I have already gotten more compliments on my hair in the few hours since I left Rubann than I probably have in an entire year!!! Annemarie is my new colorist. Not only does she understand color better than anyone I've ever met, she understands--and delivers--the color that 's right for your face, your complexion, etc. Annemarie is now the only person I will ever let touch my hair with a color-laden brush! I should add that, while I was at Rubann, I spoke to three other people who had become Annemarie devotees because she had transformed similar train wrecks on better!!!!! more

I have been coloring my hair blonde for about 3 years now. i have extremely dark brown hair and went to over 6 salons trying to find someone who could actually make my color look natural and blended. I was always getting my hair fried and damaged. The blonde they would put in would look fake and horrible. I finally found Annemarie from Rubann Salon and went to her and i have never been happier with my color. I LOVE my blonde hair now i actually get compliments on my color all the time. It feels so good to know my blonde looks so natural and blended. I would recommend Annemarie to anyone for hair color. She explained everything to me thoroughly before she did anything, and discussed what exactly i was looking for in my color. I am so happy with my color and that i finally found someone who knows what they are doing! more

If you are a blond you have got to see Annie. She is now at Gerard Bollei, and she continues to be the best colorist in town! She is young and fun and great to talk to. She has clients young and old and treats everyone with professionalism and respect. She gets you in and out and never makes you wait. Everyone needs to try Annie for color. She could work at any salon in Manhattan-even the traditional ""top colorists"". She is the best! more

I have never written a review on one of these sites before because I always felt that you never know if these reviews are actually true....but they are!! It's because of these reviews that I ended up at Rubann! Plain and simple, Ann Marie is amazing! My hair was a mess, brassy on top and grey/ashy at the bottom. I was so nervous to have someone else touch my hair because of all the trauma I had been through. My plan was to go to meet Ann Marie and get a consultation and then maybe check out a few other options before I made my decision. But the minute I met Ann Marie she just made me feel so comfotable and I really got the feeling that she knew exactly what she was talking about. I ended up staying that day and she fixed it right there and then! She was quick and to the point (which is rare for hair dressers) and my hair came out awesome!! I can not even begin to tell you what a relief it was to see my new and improved hair. I have seriously never met such an amazing hair dresser before...theres a reason why so many people have written amazing reviews! Thank you sooo much Ann Marie! :) more

After another stylist left me with hideously dark, virtually Goth-looking hair (I am 58 years old, with extremely pale skin; this is not a good look for me), I was lucky enough to find Rubann's online ad for ""hair color disaster repair in NYC."" I called them in a panic at 6:30 on a Thursday evening; literally by 7 p.m., Annamarie was at work assessing the problem and getting ready to apply trillions of very fine golden highlights to counteract the darkness. Even at the end of a long day, she was patient and reassuring and incredibly skilled. I've been coloring my hair for 15 years, with largely mediocre results, but Annamarie instantly transformed the worst color I've ever had into the absolute best. (She also emphasized that I should come back next week if there was anything at all that I didn't love--but I can't get over how totally great it looks. Even my normally hard-to-impress 21-year-old daughter keeps going out of her way to compliment me.) It was worth it to have a hair disaster to find Annamarie. I can't even imagine going to anyone else from now on. more

My mother and I have been going to Anne Marie for 6 years. She is an incredible colorist and has everyone convinced that we're both natural blondes. We have sent many friends to Anne Marie, and I cannot recommend her highly enough. The salon is centrally located, and they are very good about accomodating people who work 10-6 with their late hours on Thursday and Saturday appointments. Carla gives the best shampoo and condition in the city, it's like a massage. Everyone is very nice. It is very convenient, extremely affordable and above all the highest quality hair color. Exceeded expectations for a picky blonde :) Being new to the city I had been searching for months to find a good colorist. I am a very picky blonde and I needed someone who could see my 'vision' of what I want my hair to look like. I was shopping one day and saw a woman browsing through the store with the most amazing hair I had ever seen. It was enough for me to ask her where she got it done, and she was happy to tell me about Anne Marie. She told me that people frequently ask her where she gets it done and she was happy to help me get an appointment. I quickly made an appointment and was very pleased with the salon and my color. Anne Marie worked with me to achieve my goals while taking steps to make my hair healthier. This is the best my hair has looked in years. I've had co-workers and friends ask me where I go to have my hair done so that they can go there too, which says a lot about the skill and quality of Anne Marie and the salon. I highly recommend this place and am so glad I found it! more

Right before I was leaving for vacation my hair was destroyed! My dark brown hair was turned orange, bright yellow and white!!! I was shocked and devastated. With only a few days left before my trip, I frantically searched the internet for a color specialist. I was nervous of course to try someone based solely on internet reviews but from the moment I sat down Anne Marie made me fell comfortable and reassured me that my hair would be ok. We had a consultation and she examined my hair, asked what I wanted and explained EXACTLY what she was going to do. While the color and highlights were in she checked to make sure the tone was correct. She also instructed and observed the assistant as she rinsed my hair. My hair came out soft silky and smooth not fried and bleached as I came in. My color was amazing. Anne Marie was polite, patient and extremely reassuring. From now on I will keep visiting Ann Marie. I also liked that she asked me before we were done if I liked my color. She sincerely asked. I can't wait till next time as we did discuss where I would like to bring my color to. I'm so happy I found someone who actually experienced and educated in hair color. She genuinely cares. Also she wasn't pushy and didn't try to sell me a bunch of products or other services. I have been going to Ann Marie for over 8 years now. She originally corrected the color on my hard to cover gray and has since kept it a wonderful, warm reddish brown color that no colorist before her was able to achieve. On top of that she is an excellent hairstylist even for curly hair. She also offers great, easy to implement haircare tips! And to top it all off she created a beautiful and memorable wedding hairstyle for me which I could not have been happier with. This is the only number you need for all your hair care needs! The salon has moved, so be sure to ask for a Rubann trained colorist or stylist when making your appointment and you won't be disappointed!! more

When I first saw Ann Marie, my hair was about 5 different colors due to bad coloring jobs and oxidation. She was able to not only fix the color so it was a beautiful dark brown with a few high and low lights, but she also treated my super frizzy hair with a keratin treatment. I am so in love with the way my hair looks now, I can't stop looking at myself in the mirror! My fiance even jokes that he's ""dating a new woman"". Please go see the specialists at Rubann (when calling, make sure to ask for a Rubann trained technician) for your next cut and color... I promise you won't regret it!! more

Incredible duo. I will never go to another colorist again - I trust them with color, cut and consultation. I was so upset with a botched color job and randomly stumbled upon their salon, and not only did they beautifully correct the color, but worked with me to create a color and cut I was happy with. Thrilled, actually. Yes, it's just HAIR - but it does make a difference in how you present yourself and your self-confidence. I’ve always been known for my extremely thick and curly hair. While I truly do love my hair, it has an insane amount of unfortunate frizz. Anne Marie has tried to convince me to do the Brazilian Blowout for 2 years now, but I have always been very skeptical—while I can’t stand the frizz, I love my curls and I worried that this procedure would completely straighten my hair. However, a few weeks ago I met with Anne Marie and she took me through the very simple procedure. To say that the Brazilian Blowout changed my every day hectic hair routine is an understatement. I used to shower, apply some product to tame my curls, and then blow out the front few pieces to make my hair look less crazy. Now I shower, wait for my hair to dry, and I’m ready to go! My frizz is completely gone, my hair feels SO much lighter, and want to know the best part of all? I got to keep my curls ? Thank you Anne Marie, I couldn’t be happier! more

I recently found out that the staff of Rubann Salon moved a little while ago, being incorporated into a much larger location. I believe they chose this location because it was able to accommodate the entire staff, but when I got there for my appointment, I was a little anxious - the new place was just a bit too big and chaotic for my taste. BUT!! Rest assured, as I soon discovered, the minute you sit in the chair of any one of the Rubann-trained colorists, whatever room you're in magically becomes small and intimate! They are all super attentive, concentrating on just you and your specific hair color needs and concerns. I'd walked in all nervous and upset over my hair, but I was immediately comforted by their professionalism, knowledge, and most importantly, their solutions!! The Rubann staff is the absolute best when it comes to hair color (especially corrections!), so a quick piece of advice when scheduling your appointment - since their new location is so large and has many other hair colorists, definitely SPECIFY to the receptionist that you want a ""Rubann-trained colorist"" to guarantee you're getting the best! more

Anne Marie has been coloring my hair forever but just recently suggested that I do the brazilan blow out to avoid frizzy curly hair for the summer. I decided to give it a try and had it done in May and now more than 12 weeks later my hair still stays straight after I blow it out, even in the most humid days of the summer, no frizz, shiny and straight!! I would like to thank you for convincing me to do it> Not only is the color georgeous but it is the first summer my hair really looks good. I cant wait for my winter vacations, I will finally be able to take a good photo! more

There is no other colorist like Ann Marie! I happen to color my hair red with Ann Marie for about 16 years already. Undeniably the most difficult color to keep true and vibrant. First of all there is not a place I go that people don't stop to compliment the color of my hair. I have had many woman over the years stop me in the street to write down her number. Ann Marie is not the typical hipster hairstylist that you encounter at all these trendy obnoxious salons. With her there is no BS. The real deal. She simply knows her art! I always tell her watching her work is incredible. It's like finding a little Italian restaurant hidden on a small street with one Sicilian woman back in the kitchen creating the most delicious meals with seemingly no exact recipes or measurements. That""s Ann Marie! You tell her what u want and she mixes alittle of this that and the other and BOOM your color is perfect! No sectioning, No boxed recipes , just her years of experience and her talent! You'll never be disappointed. Just be greatful that I'm sharing my secret!!!! more
