Best

Such an easy no fuss dining experience. Tell makes you feel like you're part of the family with warm food , huge portions and wine for days! I like to stop in after work for as ...

Worst

A pretty restaurant, but marred by TERRIBLE jarring music blaring (a staff- member's I-pod? Management -get a grip!)

Superb Seafood 2/25/2004

I had a fabulous lunch one summer afternoon at Mare, at a table in the sun. The service was good, the ambience was better and the food was fantastic. I've since been to Mare 3 times, and have enjoyed each visit. Pros: Outdoor seating more

A Gem! 9/5/2003

I celebrated a friend's birthday here last night and had a great time. Greg, our server, was so helpful, especially since we had a large party. Food was fantastic, inexpensive and portions are huge. Great for parties, but romantic, too. What a gem this place is! Pros: Service, Food more

Neighborhood Favorite 8/10/2003

We're kicking ourselves for not going here sooner. This is what I think of when I think of a New York Italian restaurtant. Lovely warm ambiance, great food. Both times I've had the ""Chicken Tello"" which is chicken in a sauce with olives, sausage and mushrooms. Yum. Portions are big, prices aren't. Loved the watercress salad with bleu cheese and toasted walnuts. Carpaccio and mozarella salad as well. Wine list doesn't have any years on it, which bugs wine lovers, and we struck out with thewaiter-recommended bottle we ordered. But the carafe of house wine I had the on next visit was actually better and cheaper. Pros: Atmosphere, Price Cons: Undetailed wine list more

Great Seafood in NYC! 9/25/2002

Whenever I feel like having some fresh oysters or lobster I come to the Mare. In my mind this is the only place specialized in fresh seafood in the city. If you are looking for other food than the fresh seafood you may want to try a different place. Last time I had the Dungeness crab with half dozen of West Coat oysters and a grilled Mediterranean fish which can't remember the name of it but I sure remember the great taste. I would just go there for the dozen oysters and couple of bottles of beer before a movie or even a dinner. Have Fun! Pros: Fresh Seafood, Not Expensive, Friendly Staff more

Good Seafood Joint 7/19/2002

I stumbled upon this place on my way to rehearsal. I sat at the raw bar and had a dozen little neck clams and a beer. The atmosphere is cool, the staff was very friendly and the clams were good. Nice and cold! The only caveat is the price. My bill came out to $25 for the snack. But I enjoyed it so I plan to go back and have a meal there. Some of the entress on the menu looked very enticing. more

Sea Plus 7/9/2002

Had a lovely dinner in this dedicated seafood joint, food was well-prepared and -presented and the service was pleasant and prompt. A nice space, as long as it doesn't get too crowded and a singleminded devotion to its chosen cuisine make Mare a great choice for seafood lovers. more
