Our Name Is Mud

I went to Our Name is Mud with some girlfriends and we had a blast there. It was fun to be able to sit around and talk while having something fun to do as well. They have quite a variety of pieces to choose from. more

I went to Our Name is Mud with some friends recently. It is fun to pick out your unpainted pottery piece and decide what colors, designs, stencils etc. you want to decorate it with. They have a nice variety of pieces to paint too - mugs, plates, vases, figurines, switchplates, napkin rings.... pretty much anything you could want. Many of them are appealing to kids too (little princesses and monkeys.) The place is very kid-friendly, and they have staff members ready to help and give you painting tips. There are also lots of instructional tiles available to show different techniques. My main criticism of this place is the price. You pay for the unpainted piece, the painting time, plus the firing in the kiln. My total for one mug came to about $26!! Still, it was a good time and the finished product looks pretty cool. more

This place is really a lot of fun if you've got some time on your hands - you can stop in a pick out a piece of unfinished, unpainted pottery and paint it to make it your own. They'll glaze and put it in the kiln and next week you can pick it up and take it home! more

I needed a special gift for a friend but I wanted to stay away from the typical. So, I thought - I'll make something! I went to Our Name is Mud, where the staff could not be any more helpful. They were so patient and attentive. I had so much fun - for 2 hours - painting my bowl. It was both relaxing and creative. I haven't yet seen how it came out but I'm very excited! What could be more special than your own hard work and attention? The only reason it didn't get 5 stars, was because I went at a time when there were many kids - it made some of the experience a little unpleasant just because of shouts and cries....No biggie! more

Paint your own pottery for only five dollars a half hour. You pick the pottery you want and they give you the materials to design it any way you want. They also host pottery parties and they have nine week classes for those who want to make more in depth pottery of their very own. more

Throw out the clock, put on your smocks and paint to your heart's (or wallet's) content. "Our Name is Mud," is a kids-friendly, great for all ages, pottery paint bar, You are the one to create and design your own housewares! Over 100 items, you select your pottery of choice, and then let your imagination take over. For the novice, they also offer paint pencils, stencils, sponges, and books to help unleash the creative you! If you don't like the design, don't worry, you can easily wash it all off and start over! Ceramics are dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe, and all materials are nontoxic. They also have adults only, late nights. Offered on Thursdays and Fridays after 5pm, no kids, food and alcohol are allowed. So one can have their own wine and cheese party! The staff who run the place are enthusiastic, friendly, and very helpful. They know a thing or two about wines too. This place is awesome. Though they have four locations, only three (Upper West Side, Upper East Side and Village) are actual paint bars. Pieces are ready for pick-up a week later. In addition to the cost of the pottery, they charge $5 by the half hour. Great place to get reconnected with the child in you! more
