This place is just good fun alone or on a date. I like the chalk board tables and the colored chalk they leave out in a bowl. They have a good selection of middle eastern food, ...

Worst

The food is good, but the service is horrible. When you come in, the hotess will ask you, with a nasty face, how many people are coming and if you're really hungry. They rush over...

Chalkboard Tables! 7/30/2005

Olive Tree is located in the heart of Greenwich Village. The cafe is above the Comedy Cellar. If you dine at the cafe on a slow night at the Cellar, they will admit you to the Comedy Club free of charge. The food is great! They specialize in Mid Eastern eats, although they serve everything from Nachos to Turkey Burgers. The drinks rock! I highly recommend the white russian shake! Best of all, the tables are chalkboards, so you can draw a portrait while waiting for your meal! more

  • The Olive Tree Cafe & Bar is located just upstairs from New York's famed Comedy Cellar. With a full dinner menu, great drink specials and amazing desserts, it's no wonder why people keep coming back for more.

    While the menu at this New York cafe & bar is predominantly Middle Eastern, they also feature the best burgers in town, delicious hot Russian beef borscht (a house specialty), a myriad of coffees and more. Every item on the menu is prepared fresh daily, portions are generous, and they keep food and drink prices as low as possible.

    The Olive Tree Cafe & Bar's atmosphere is truly unique. Spectacular stained glass lighting and Ava's original artwork set the mood. Patrons can draw on the slate tables or enjoy playing chess and backgammon while they listen to tunes from a jukebox. Free admission to the Comedy Cellar is sometimes offered to patrons of The Olive Tree.
