Very good 6/25/2009

I had a very good experience the night I went to this restaurant. I know literally all restaurants can be up & down from night to night (I used to be a food expeditor and waiter) but I was fortunate to have been there on an up-night! I loved the mushroom dish that had an assortment of mushrooms instead of only button. The bottle of wine I had complimented my steak nicely which as perfect medium-rare and we had a very attentive server which was nice. I've been to 4 steakhouses in the city and this is #1. I still need to go to Peter Luger's and the Old Homestead (among others). Pros: food & service more

Average 10/24/2008

I go to a steakhouse about once a month. Decided to try Nick & Stef's due to its proximity to Penn Station. The petite filet & shrimp consisted of a slightly dry (ordered medium) filet and three shrimp. My dining companion ordered the crab cakes and seemed to enjoy them. The mac & cheese side and calamari app were good. The service was attentive. All in all a decent place, however, with a bill for two coming close to $200.00, coupled with so many other steak options in the city, you'd probably be more satisfied going somewhere else. Pros: Ambience, Location, service Cons: Didn't think the steak was very good more

Top ten steak. 6/24/2008

I am a frequent visitor of steak houses, and I have dined to most of them in the city. My friend recommended it, so I came in with few friends for the R.E.M concert. We tried the seafood platter for the table and that was the best I?ve tasted in a long time. I tried the cowboy steak and that was the most tender cowboy steak have ever eaten. Even though we were short on time they managed to get us out on time after a very enjoyable experience. This Steakhouse is a top 10 on my book, and I will recommend it. more

I have to say this place was a great find never knew it existed 6/23/2008

I ate here before the Tom Petty concert and was pleased with my whole experience. My Ribeye steak was absoltely enormous and filled with flavor. My wife had the Mixed seafood entree and told me it was fresh and tasty. The service was very good even though this restaurant was really busy at the time of our visit...We will return more

Rather be at Burger King 5/3/2008

I am not joking, I'd rather have eaten at Burger King. Service was decent except the food was horrible. The filet mignon has no taste and the consistency of a rubber band. The filet was flat (compared to a good steak house such as Del Friscos or Harry) My wife and I were so hungry that we had to eat was was brought to the table. The creamed Spinach was dry and stale. The bread offering was bland and ordinary. \r \r This steak house is not among the elite in Manhattan, but charges equivalent prices. We complained to our waiter, who immediately alerted the manager, about the poor quality of the steak, and she insisted on bringing us another, which we declined. The manager reduced our tab by the price of the steak (which was very nice.) \r \r We will never go back to Nick & Stef's. Pros: Nice Ambience Cons: Food Suuucks more

The good reviews are scams 11/1/2006

The majority of people who gave this restaurant an EXCELLENT review also gave ""Excellent reviews"" to all of the establishments that are part of RESTAURANT ASSOCIATES...Just look at the Profiles of the reviewers and look at the other restaurants they have reviewed...Its all a scam...I have eaten at the majority of these restaurants and please....How good can they be if they are willing to take $50 off your check for your birthday? Sub-Par at food at best at all of these establishments...What a joke. more

Great Steak, Great Time 10/17/2006

Adjacent to Madison Square Garden, Nick & Stef's is the perfect place for pre- or post-game parties, special events, or just a great dinner! The sleek and contemporary steakhouse features amazing steaks and a killer swordfish. The bar is sophisticated and the dining area is comfotable and ultra-contemporary. The bar is open from restaurant opening to closing and on event nights, they remain open as long as business dictates.\r Pros: Great Steaks and Seafood Cons: None! more

Great Steaks! 10/16/2006

I live just a few blocks from Nic and Stef's so I make it a point to go there at least once a week. I can't get enough of their steaks!! They are always cooked to perfection! When I'm not in the mood for steak, I know I can always get the fresh seafood. Pros: Great atmospher more

I like Scotch! Scotch, Scotch, Scotch! 10/5/2006

this place has great scotch/whisky selection, perfect for the upcoming colder months. we knocked back a few rounds and then had dinner. the sirloin was cooked to perfection-- most other restaurants can't get ""medium"" right to save their lives. they also have a wider selection of sides than most other steakhouses. everyone could use little mac & cheese in their life, am i right? my mouth waters just thinking about it, i might go there again tonight! Pros: Great ambiance, nice rich colors that seem warm and inviting during sunset more

Great Customer Service 9/26/2006

We don't get to NYC that often so going to an unknown restaurant (to us) meant that price was not a consequence. This restaurant was pricey but once in a blue moon was worth it. The service was impecable; the food was outstanding; the speciality 20oz. T-bone was the best I've had done to perfection. One thing we learned was, if possible get an early (5 pm) seating as by 6:15 pm the place is jammed and service could be compromised. For an excellent restaurant close to the MSG venue we will certainly return. Pros: Service, food Cons: Crowded hence noisy more

Save your money and move to Morton's! 7/12/2006

Went to N&S's last night for dinner. The service was HORRIBLE. The table who got there 20 minutes before us had their food before we even had our bread. I had to ask for water 3 times, and our butter that fell on the floor was never replaced despite numerous requests. The food was BLECH. The filet minon was average, and the chicken I had, actually was so dry my throat was scratchy after the meal. For spending $150, McDonalds' would have been a cheaper and better choice! Do not recommend! Pros: Locale, Atmosphere Cons: Service, Service Service!!!! Food, Food Food! more

great on the restaurant week season 7/11/2006

I came today with my gf. It was unbelievable. Great cocktail, great service, great food either. I got steak and my gf got shrimp. It is small portion, but.... dance your tongue. It is soo tasty. Either the cocktail. What else ?. I will go back. Two thumbs up. Pros: Tasty food, excellent cocktail Cons: Small portion more

best steaks around with the best service 6/23/2006

I love going to nick and stefs before a game or concert. They offer a great selection of food from spectacular steaks to seafood. They also have a great selection of starters. One of my favorite starters are the crab cakes they are fantastic. They have a nice bar set-up for drinks before an event and one of the best signatue drinks i've tasted in many places. They also have an entrance to the garden when you finish your meal. The service is unbelievable and although the uniforms are not very appealing to their atmosphere hopefully this review will open some eyes in thier ownership. I LOVE NICK AND STEF""S. YOU GUYS ROCK Pros: Best steaks Cons: Do not like the uniforms more

Great food Great service A+ 6/7/2006

Nick and Stef's was a great time. The staff was very proffesional and kind. The food was outstanding. I would reccomend this to anyone looking for a great meal in New York City. The wait staff knows the menu like the back of thier hand and is very helpful. I went a couple of times and fully intend on going back whenever I am around MSG. Tell a friend... Nick and Stef's is the place to be. Pros: 2 Thumbs up more

It's like they want to keep it a secret! 5/13/2006

From the street you could miss it walking by the front door. I've gone to there a few times, the staff is great, not your typical stuffy steakhouse crew-very friendly and professional. By the second visit I was hooked, they remembered us and went all out to make the night a great experience. One time I went on a ""game night""-tons of people! But, since they know me, when I'm going to MSG I've got the hookup, they have a private entrance-no lines! The other times I've gone it's romantic date heaven, you can walk in get a booth by the windows, be treated like a VIP in a not-crowded place, with great food and service. Nick & Stef's is one of the only places worthy of going in the area, so if you happen to be by Madison Square Garden or Herald's Square check it out! Pros: romantic, not crowded, service rules Cons: Packed pre-events more

Nice surprise... 3/24/2005

...that a restaurant in this neighborhood could deliver such a great experience! The steaks are delicious and so are the sides. We shared a crabcake appetizer which was amazing (all crab!) Other things people ordered were great too-- shrimp scampi, a venison special and the desserts. The service is professional but not stuffy like other steakhouses. Same goes for the atmosphere, really refreshing. But isn't it all about food really? The food here is excellent, so I'm definitely going back for more! Pros: steak, crabcake, refreshing atmosphere more

meat pretender 12/30/2003

being a carnivore & restaurant fan, and having lived in NY all my life, I have tried EVERY steakhouse. This is, by far, the worst ""steakhouse"" and I use the term loosely(Idon't know what they eat in LA, but if it's this, I will never go!). Supermarket meat, frozen hash brown brick, no taste spinich, watery bernaise, deserts to die FROM, slow & clueless serviceand everything cold and way overpriced! THINK Lugars, Ruth's, Mortons, (you can even do better at Outback) Pros: MSG, MSG, MSG Cons: food, service, price more

Bring a Conversationalist 12/16/2003

Because the service is ABOMINABLE and you'll need to have someone you can talk to to kill the time between the waiter making appearances. Fortunately, my colleague and I were able to do so and therefore were able to enjoy our meal. The food is a good average - nothing particularly out of the ordinary for what I'd expect for a steakhouse of this type in the city. The wine list is decent, but grossly overpriced. Thank goodness for the $50 birthday certificate! I'd recommend it and go back, but ONLY with the $50 coupon and on an expense account, like I did this time. Pros: Food, Location Cons: Painfully slow servic, Overpriced wine list more

Horrible 10/22/2003

After visiting most of the top steakhouses in NYC, this was by far the worst dining experience. We waited 15 minutes for a waiter to come to our table and introduce themselves. The filet mignon was overcooked and the waiter argued that it was fine. My wife's seafood combo was so salty that she couldn't eat it. I sent an e-mail to the manager over 2 weeks ago and no one has contacted me to try to fix it. If you are in the neighborhood and need a good steakhouse...try Keens!!! Cons: Terrible service, Terrible food more

great restaurant!! 8/4/2003

I went to Nick & Stefs this past Saturday night with my girlfriend, we got the filet mignon, lobster, and creamed spinach. The food was excellent and cooked perfectly, the service was great as well as having a top notch waiter who was knowledgeable and friendly as well! I would definitely return to Nick & Stefs, especially since it is in a neighborhood so void of good restaurants! this one is a keeper! Pros: great steak, nice decor, attentive waitstaff Cons: none! more
