Best

I can write a long review about how good the food and service is at Mr.K's but that sometime is not needed when i can sum it up in just a few words.

Worst

During my trip to NYC, a friend wanted to show me to a nice place, so we went to check out Mr. K's -- with its high ratings and all. Well, based on my experience, I'm quite puzzl...

High Ceilings! 4/24/2005

Okay, Mr.K's has an outrageous interior space. I feel small in it, and the cushy booth-like seats don't help. The dishes were incredibly authentic, and not bland in the least bit. The tofu was spectacular, so spicy it burned my lips. I can't tell you how truly blissful it was to sink my teeth into Mr. K's Peking duck. Everything was good, though not entirely impressive. However, I definitely go back, and it fulfills any craving I have for schezuan! more

cleanest bathroom... 11/25/2004

Seriously speaking, this place has the most cleanest bathroom i have ever sceen. On top of that, they have this great rice bowl holder that flips open. Man. That was cool. To the food: for a fancy restaurant like that, they give a good portion (didn't quite expected that). The food tasted like Chinese food with a kick. I'll be back. more

Elegant Chinese Dining 10/30/2004

Mr K's is an upscale Chinese restaurant that offers traditional as well as popular western dishes. Overall the food is very good (although I have had better authentic dishes in places that were not as asthetically pleasing), excellent service with constant utensil & plate changes (as is custom in fine chinese restaurants) and great ambience. The high, high ceilings and plush sofa like seats are really what sets this restaurant apart. It is a bit on the pricey side but, then again, you get what you pay for. Pros: Beautiful space, Good Service, Good Food more

Different take on Chinese food 7/12/2004

Went to Mr. K's not knowing what to expect. I had never really dined on "upscale" Chinese food. I must say that I was more than pleasantly surprised. The place is absolutely beautiful with huge space and large tables with fine pink linens. Service was a bit slow at times but for the most part very good. The food was spectacular. We went with a large group and everyone ordered something different for the most part and they were all very happy. Prices are a bit on the high side for chinese food, but then again this isn't your local neighborhood chinese takeout joint............ Pros: Food, Great space, Service more

An Asian Gem in Midtown 7/5/2004

For those used to quick, budget-priced Chinese fare where you exit with little white containers, Mr. K's is a world apart. This is a restaurant where you go for the extraordinary ambience and professional, attentive (without being stuffy or overbearing) service. Most of us wouldn't flinch at entrees at a French restaurant starting at $20, but it's unusual for Asian fare. However, it's not the food you're paying for, especially since it's good but not great. This is a special place for a celebration, an important client, or a romantic tryst. The $45 prix fixe, four-course dinner is a treat, and includes three appetizers, soup, Peking duck, a choice of entree (from among two pages of choices), desert and tea or coffee. Regardless of your choice, expect to pay an average of $50 to $75 per person. And for the most part, it's worth it. more

Fabu Chinese! 5/11/2004

I love this place. The food is top shelf...prices are high but the quality is outstanding. I would say the interior is a little tired by NYC standards...but I go every time I'm in New York. Pros: quality, consistencey more

Top 3 Chinese in City 9/2/2003

This is my first time dining at Mr. K's. It was a very impressive experience. I had the same feeling my first time at Shun Lee's. The next 2 times at Shun Lee, I was vey disappointed. based upon this visit, they take the quality and service very seriously. High quality ingredients and wonderful spices. Will need to go back to see if it remains as consistant. more

Owner: Johnny Kao Executive Chef: Chen-Hua Yan Management Team: Edward Cheung, John Fong, Henry Lieu Date Opened: February 28, 1998 Concept Architect: Greg Olving In China, cooking is an ancient art rather than simply a nourishing necessity. Those dishes, which have stood the test of time, provide us with what is known as “the classic Chinese cuisine”. A well-planned meal will vary in texture and color as well as flavor and temperature to achieve overall harmony in the tradition of Ying and Yang. Each of the four main regions of the country has developed its own distinctive culinary style. Peking (North) provides a tender, delicate taste while Shanghai (East) uses light and savory flavors. In contrast are the crispy, unusual blends of Canton (South) and the fiery, spicy seasonings of Hunan and Szechwan (Central and West). To provide New York City, “Capital of the World”, with the best China has to offer, Mr. K's has meticulously searched for dishes representing the essence of each of these regions. The most gourmet recipes with the best ingredients and subtlest of seasonings have been prepared under the masterful direction of our head chef. Their beautiful presentation on imperial flatware, served in grand style, is an exotic prelude to your delight..
