I went here with a friend of an after work evening dinner. I ordered the Lobster wrap on the Specials list, On my first bite as I bit into to it i pulled a long hair out of the wrap that i also went into my mouth. I alerted the waitress and showed her the hair. At this point I am totally disgusted, she asks, ""would you like another or would you like to try something else?"" I decided to try something else I Ordered the Gilled T-Bone steak (medium). As i waited patiently for my grilled T-bone steak to arrived I decided eat some of my friends meal because it's been over 20 minutes. She ordered the Crabcake Frittes with sweet potato fries. The Crabcake on a Pretzel bun was fully burned to the point of the outer layer being black. When she finishes her meal and goes to use the rest room my meal arrives, about 30 minutes later. The Grilled T-bone Steak with french fries. I started to eat it and theres just something off about the taste so I ask for some A1 steak s I wait more than 5 minutes for it to arrives she apologizes that it took so long because she had do something. Even with the steak sauce its still terrible. I don't know if the cook was having an off night but everything about the dining experience sucked. I asked for the check I still leave a 15% tip because i try an support people in the service industry but what ticked me i never received an apology and when i was leaving the hostess who looked like she was in-charge and who knew about the hair, says, "" I hope you enjoyed.""or something of that nature. I had no idea how to react to that other than writing this review. My first and last time there. more

OUGHT TO BE SHUT DOWN!! This place is an embarrassment to the restaurant industry. The host with the ponytail was not inviting or welcoming at all. He asked my husband and I if we had reservations. When we replied '""no"", he preceded to sigh and said that he would see what he could do. (restaurant was at approximately 40% capacity the whole time. Plenty of empty tables?) So he finally came back and told us that we could be seated. Waitress brought us to a table in the back which was cramped right in between the kitchen and the restrooms. She did not offer her name. Food sucks. Menu sucks. No soda. Had the Matts burger with a chicken caesar salad. Asked for no bacon on the burger. Waitress said no problem but apparently it was a problem because it arrived with bacon anyway. I had to remind her that I sad no bacon and her response was, ""oh this isn't your burger..."" and she stepped back into the kitchen. The same burger came back because I could still taste the bacon grease. The waitress was attentive to other customers but did not ask us once if we were doing okay. I think because she was ashamed of what she had done. Frozen julienne fries were mediocre and yet the highlight of the meal. Finally it was time to pay the bill. We let her know that it was absolutely the same burger because it tasted like bacon still. She said, ""oh. sorry"" non-chalantly. I have never left a place feeling so disappointed and disrespected before. Only reason this place is able to operate with such poor service is because it is a family-owned business. Family members, please tell these guys what is really up and hopefully they will get their act together! The busboy was very nice but everyone and everything else should be replaced. more

Great drinks, food, and service 1/11/2012

If you're in the neighborhood, come to Matt's! Great food (try the chicken fingers), great drinks, and super service. Check out the lunch/dinner specials which are always tasty additions to the menu. Nuala is an awesome bartender--great drinks and great conversation. Christina provides great wait service, too. Place recommended! more

Great experience and great promotions! 1/5/2012

I work in the Hell's Kitchen area and during lunch time I love to find new places to eat. One of my coworkers recommended trying Matts Grill. I went there last week and was amazed by the promotion they had: have lunch at the bar and get a glass of house wine or draft beer for only $1!!! I ordered an egg salad sandwich which came with fries - all together they created a generous portion. I also got a glass of Pinot Griggio using that promotion. The sandwich was delicious and fries were delightfully crispy. When a very nice and firendly bartender handed me the bill which was not even full $10, I decided that I would definately bring some friends with me next time! Great service, great food, great prices! What can be better? more

Great neighborhood place 1/4/2012

My coworkers and me went to Matt's Grill several days ago to get lunch. The place had a cool and cozy feel inside. The lightening and the furniture was perfect. The waitress from Russia was extremely friendly and cheerful. The food was great, particularly the Matts Burger. Now I am recommending this place to all my coworkers more

Matt's Grill - Great! 1/2/2011

I was visiting NYC with some friends. We were on our way to see a comedy show near by and decided to stop there for dinner. The food and the service were excellent. My friend and I both ordered the steak with peppercorn sauce. It was the best steak I have ever eaten! If I make it back to NYC anytime soon, I will definitely be eating at Matt's Grill! more

The Midtown place for A-1 comfort food, honest drinks, friendly service and fair price 2/19/2009

Sounds almost too good to be true, but Matts disdains attitude and price gouging and serves up great food and fine beverages. No wonder it is a neighborhood favorite, with a ""Cheers""-like atmosphere that encourages conversation and lingering. Based on three years of occasional meals taken here, this place never disappoints. There's a wide variety of global brews --draft or bottle-- and wines plus the usual assortment of alcohols. But what sets Matts apart is the honest, well presented flavorful food. When winter grinds the thermometer down, drop in and warm up with a great martini and what might be the best chicken potpie in NYC and a winner of a meatloaf --truly better than some of the ones I've forced down at some Moms that shall remain anonymous. The hamburgers are consistently tasty --juicy and cooked as ordered-- and the steaks worthy of an expense-account snob-hutch. The staff is invariably friendly towards regulars and casuals. Altogether, a great comibination. Matt's a keeper! May it remain faithful to its current formula and thrive for many years. Pros: Food, drinks, service, value Cons: Zip more

Simply put: Very good 12/26/2008

I came across this place when I searched for a restaurant to take my holiday visitors for dinner after a tour of the Times Sq area. In short, all seven people in the party were impressed with this place - Great comfort food, appealing servings, prompt and friendly service, cozy and charming decor, excellent drinks... I'm definittely going back! Pros: Food, drinks, ambience more

Amazing place 12/10/2008

The place is amazing, the service was great and food even more amazing. I ordered the meatloaf while my friends ordered the steak and we all just enjoyed our food... the steak was best ever. Even the cocktails were great. more

Great low-key spot! 10/1/2008

This place just looks like the average pub but don't be fooled because the food and service is amazing. Menu items are tasty, high quality entrees, not the typical bar food. They offer a $15 pre-fixe on Sunday and Mondays which is the most amazing deal. Jon the bartender is really nice and will ensure a good experience! Pros: Everything more

My Place... 7/12/2006

We found Matts grill a few blocks from our midtown hotel.Thank God!!! my wife and I were visitng from Boston and the SOX were playing the yankees. We watched two games at Matts. The food was great ,the bar was fun ,the service was freindly and for New York the price right. If Matts was in Boston it would be my place.By the way it seems to be a yankees bar...I can not believe I am saying this but all the people(read yankee fans) were very nice and fun even though we were cheering for the SOX Pros: Freindly bar Cons: To far from home more

Cold beer/good food 6/25/2006

The bottled beer that they serve here has to rank amongst the coldest that I've ever been serve at a bar in NYC. Food is good and prices are semi-reasonable. It's not a big place with a long bar and a few side tables. They have 2 flat screens (at each end of the bar) to watch games. Service is friendly, but not very attentive. Nice place to get something to eat and relax. Pros: Cold Beer Cons: Bartender not very attentive more

We like it 3/31/2006

Matt's Grill has turned into our local Friday lunch destination being i work in West Midtown. We like it, has a comfy environment though is slightly overpriced. Word on the street is the fries are amazing (which i have never had), the shrimp looked fantastic while the burgers and chicken pot pie were average. I had both. We were all very dissapointed with the service which was extremely slow. One of my co-workers almost chewed her arm off waiting. Its a great place for the neighborhood and on friday i enjoy hearing my coworker say ""It's Friday Kiiiiiid!! Matt's Grill!!!"" Pros: homey environment, close to work Cons: overpriced, slow service more

The food is fantastic 8/15/2005

We came upon Matt's grill after a Sunday matinee at the theatre. We were out-of-town tourists (party of six including 2 children aged 14 and 11) and found Matt's Grill just walking by. The ambiance was wonderful, service was great and the menu had something on it for everyone. The food was delicious! Perhaps during a busy period it wouldn't be that suitable for children, but a Sunday afternoon was delightful, service was great and prices were very reasonable. more

Great Spot 3/17/2003

Look no further for the best spot in Midtown. The atmosphere is fun and the service is spectacular. You will find many great items on their menu and will not go home disappointed. If you are looking for a few steps above a normal pub Matts Grill is for you. Try the Steak Sandwich and make sure to order the Chicken Fingers and Garlic Fries. Enjoy, this is one of our favorite places for a bite to eat as well as relax for some drinks. Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Very Clean more

Great Food and Service 9/6/2002

If your looking for a great place to grab a meal and a beer in Midtown West, look no further. Matt's Grill offers amazing food at slightly higher than pub prices. The fries are always perfect and the entrees hit the mark. Don't miss ""Matt's Angus Burger"" and the Cajun Meatloaf with mash potatoes. Every time I have eaten there, the service has been friendly and fast. The bar is well stocked with good beers on tap. The crowd is of mixed ages and gender. There is usually a game on the the TV's, and the music is never that loud. All in all, a quality place to grab some snacks with a friend. more
