The following is my experience having Bladeless, Intralase Lasik at Manhattan Lasik.
I have been wanting Lasik for years, but never had the guts to start the process! When a groupon came along that I couldn't resist, I started the process with Manhattan Lasik.
I had my surgery yesterday and today during my follow up, I could see 20/20. It's not perfect yet (still some blurriness due to eye edema, which is normal after surgery) but I can see 20/20 for the first time in 20 years without glasses and contacts!
I'll start with the only negative part of my experience, which has NOTHING to do with the outcome of surgery, doctors or nurses. You first meet w/ a financing person to finalize payments. While I was meeting with the finance person, he received a phone call. He took the call while waiting with me and was on the phone for about 5 minutes. I thought this was kind of rude (he could have walked out of the room to take the call). He did apologize for taking the call, but it probably could have been handled with a little more tact. After that, one of the people working up front handed me a cup of water and a valium, but didn't explain what it was. So, that could have been a little better too.
But, once I got started with the pre-surgery measurements, everyone was excellent. They were very calm and knowledgeable. They asked me multiple times if I had questions and they went over instructions with me before and after surgery.
The doctor who performed my surgery was Dr. Buchsbaum. He was excellent. He took the same measurements of my eyes multiple times to insure it was accurate, which I greatly appreciated because THESE ARE MY EYES! I told him my nervousness with the surgery and he was very calm and assured me I wouldn't be sitting in that chair if I weren't a good candidate. Once it was time for surgery, the nurse offered me another valium, which I took because I was very nervous. I wish I had gotten her name, so I could compliment her. She was an asian nurse (which I know makes me sound racist, but that's all I have to identify her!). She was very claim and very reassuring. She gave me "Damien" the teddy bear to hold on to. (Sidenote: If Damien were real, I would have broken his wrist from squeezing so hard during surgery!)
The actual surgery was mostly painless. First they put antibiotic drops in your eyes and then numbing drops. The only part that "hurt" was the first part when they created the flap and put the pressure ring on your eye. It's uncomfortable, but only lasted about 20-30 seconds per eye. After this part, you are put under the laser machine and you look at a red and green light. You hear some noises and smell some smells (the doctor said it was gasses from the machines) and then you're done. The actual procedure took less than 10 minutes total. It was amazing.
Dr. Buchsbaum talked me through the whole surgery: what he would be doing, what I would be seeing and hearing. The nurse rubbed my shoulder to clam me the whole time. Afterward, I was given my little kit, sat in recovery and my husband took me home. They also tell you what to expect to feel like after the surgery and they were very accurate. They make sure there are no surprises!
My husband wants to get lasik and I don't want to take him anywhere but Manhattan Lasik. They understand these are your eyes and give you the best care. If you do get your surgery here, expect to be here a few hours. It's a long wait, but they take their time to make sure everyone gets individual, proper care.
UPDATED:
Manhattan Lasik truly does care about their patients. And they actually read these reviews!! I received a phone call yesterday from the finance person apologizing for taking the phone call while meeting with me. I really appreciated that. It just shows how dedicated they are to their patients and maintaining their image. :)
