Threw it away and i wasted $18 - I won't be a repeat customer more

Horrible. Cold soggy tostada salad - one single totally gluey tortilla on the bottom, no beans at all, iceberg lettuce, disgusting. Basically inedible. more

Delicious Mexican 4/13/2009

Lupes serves delicious authentic Mexican in a charming tin-roof storefront on the edge of Soho. The service is friendly and the ambience very casual. Pros: Guacamole Cons: Small location more

I got a tip for you, this is not LA! 1/19/2009

Went there today with my cousin. We both hail from southern california. I don't know what part of East LA they learning their mexican style of cooking, but it is not close. It's ok, and is definitely not TEX MEX, but if you are reading the rest of these reviews and thinking you are about to get the real deal... Uh No. I had the Chicken Enchaldas, my cousin had the chicken norteno. The Beans were good (black), and the rice was good (nice flavor), but the sauce for the enchaladas... bland. little more flavor needed. I would go back, but It's not the best in the NYC. I have been to some here in the NYC better... The chips and salsa, NOT GOOD. They did not have corn chips, but the flour chips from the bag. Salsa could be better. Pros: Beans, Rice, Good date spot, they serve drinks Cons: Enchalada sauce, chips, salsa more

Excellent Mexican Food...For Manhattan 2/7/2007

If you're from California or Texas, you frequently lament the sorry state of Mexican food in NYC: the sugar in the salsa, sweet syrupy margaritas, exclusion of items like chile relleno/tamles on menus, etc. I avoid all Mexican food in NY, but every few months I need a fix and try a self-described 'authentic' place. All that being said, Lupe's is good, heads above the other stuff you find. We ordered margaritas, guac, salsa, chile verde, enchiladas and chile rellenos for about $25 a person. Everything was excellent and the service was attentive. This place is barebones, a cozy diner atmosphere. I've learned not to expect the stuff you get in states that border Mexico. The sauces and dishes are prepared differently, but are still good. If you don't know what the fuss about Mexican food is, that means you've never had good Mexican food and it probably makes no difference where you eat. And if you do know what all the fuss is about, then try Lupe's. Cons: Cash only more

Horrible delivery service 5/13/2006

Do not order food delivered to your house or apartment from Lupe's. They will skip your order, then lie to you that they rang your doorbell and called your phone number. I just had this happen and I will no longer order from Lupe's. The food may be good, but if they don't or won't bring it to you, how can you tell? more

Lupe's is awesome! 3/10/2005

This place was a true find! The food is incredible and very reasonably priced. It's never been crowded when I have been there and it's a cute place on a corner for great people-watching. I recommend the black bean burrito and their super vegetarian burrito is killer! Pros: Food, Price Cons: Small, Only accept Cash more

Very tasty & cheap SoHo Mexican 10/3/2004

very friendly wait staff, fun quaint little Mexican diner type place where you can get a great quick Mexican meal. Great place to stop for a quick filling meal when walking around SoHo. Very fresh ingredients, hearty meal, good bang for the buck. the huevos rancheros was very good. don't forget cash only. Pros: authentic, quick, cheap more

this is my favorite eaterie! 8/30/2004

hi! i love this mexican place. i normally am averse to mexican food since so many dishes consist of onions but not here- the salad is so savory! i get really excited when richard brings me here! Pros: patient waitstaff Cons: , weak margaritas more

Dine In 4/25/2004

This is one of my FAVORITE places for the food and the atmosphere at lunchtime. However, be very wary of ordering delivery. My order has never come right and it's often ice cold. Mind you, I still keep trying. more

Real Mexican Food 3/4/2004

I am from Southern California and have scoured New York to find Mexican food similar to the type served on the left coast. I was elated when I found Lupe's. If one is looking for ""L.A. Style"" Mexican food (which I consider to be real Mexican food) then go to Lupe's. I had the steak burrito which is served with Mexican rice and lettuce and tomato on the side. It's nothing to look at, but the taste is authentic. If one is familiar with ""Chano's"" or ""El Coyote"" in Los Angeles then expect the same quality and flavor. Don't go for the decor or the location, go for the food! Pros: Authentic food, Friendly servers, Quick more

Good Food 2/28/2003

I really love the food at Lupe's. Nice solid Mexican that reminds me of food I have had in Southern California. It isn't much to look at though and I wouldn't take someone I was trying to impress with there. I would reccomend it to my less pretentious acquiantances though. Pros: Inexpensive, Good food Cons: Cramped more

Good, but not for a date. 11/12/2002

Just don't bring your date to this cheap looking restaurant on the border of SOHO and the West Village. The Food is fine, but the decor reminds you why NYC is such a great place to live. Pros: fine food Cons: lousy looks more

Good For a Quickie 8/2/2002

The food is adequate, authentic and inexpensive, but this is a glorified ""Mexican Diner"". Not a good place to go out with a group. Only regular margaritas (no frozen... can't you buy a blender?), beer and low-grade wine. The same waiter can be friendly, absent-minded or bitter, all within the span of an hour. If you're local, try it, but it's not worth going out of your way for. more

the best mexican... 7/29/2002

granted, it's a small place and gets packed for lunch but this place delivers. i always order the enchilada suaza...it's the best!! more

casual and yummy Cal-Mex 5/20/2002

Especially if you find yourself in the neighborhood of the Knitting Factory--and hungry--fairly often, Lupe's is a godsend. Hefty portions of L.A.-style Mexican food, plus a great selection of Mexican beers (and margaritas!) complete the picture. more
