Disappointing gnocchi 10/22/2009

The special tonight was gnocchi. Well, I have eaten my gnocchi my whole life made by my nanny who comes from Naples, Italy. So, I know how gnocchi should taste. The gnocchi at Landmarc were undercooked. When I asked the waiter to have it more cooked, the cook refused saying that this is the way he cooks them. Well, personally, I don't care how the cook likes it. It was undercooked. Period. At the end, they did not charge us for the gnocchi. Thanks for the gesture but I was still hungry. My recommendation don't order gnocchi at landmarc. Cons: Cook not willing to cook undercooked gnoochi more

Ehhh 12/21/2008

The atmosphere is great!! I wasn't too impressed by the food though. I ordered the salmon and asked for it cooked all the way through, which is definitely was not. The waitor noticed my disgust and offered to take it back to have it cooked more. When my food was brought back out - it still wasn't cooked. I ended just taking it to go and cooking it at home. My date ordered the steak - which he liked. Very cute spot - but be prepared to spend lots of $$$. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Prices more

Never that good.... 4/1/2008

Everyone always talks about this place like it is good, and unfortunately I get fooled into going back. The wait staff is always sub par, the food is never that great (especially given the price) and I always leave feeling like I was some how cheated. The sandwiches always seem greasy, the mussels are okay, and the desserts are pretty good. Fortunately, I will not be fooled into going back anytime soon. Pros: the wine list is very good Cons: the food, the service, the restaurant more

Nice place 12/27/2007

Four of us went there on a Friday night.. We arrived around 9pm and were told there would be a 45 minute wait (they don't take reservations). We sat at the little bar at the back and got a great glass on Sauvignon Blanc. The manager came over to chat to us and gave us menus while we waited. The table was ready about 45 minutes later. We were seated upstairs just one table back from the window. It was REALLY cold. Two of us put our jackets on and the guys put their scarves on. We were told the heating was on full.... In any event, the food was great and the waitress gave good suggestions for wine. Goatcheese profiteroles and calamari were really good. The grilled tuna was delicious though a little overcooked for me. The chickpea stew it's served with was great. The steak and pasta special were pretty good too from the looks of things! I gave Landmarc just 3 stars out of a possible 5 because it really was so cold that it affected the whole experience. Pros: Great food, good wine selection Cons: It's really cold in winter more

Landmarc has jumped the shark 11/10/2007

No heat or very little and it was 42 degrees outside. Windows were filthy upstairs, hope kitchen was cleaner. Asked not to have french fries told no subsitutions, not even some additional salad that you buy in enormous bags premixed? Food is very salty, why is that, is the meat now a bad cut? Very noisy and of course lots of screaming children. Was forced to wait for my coat in a drafty doorway because I had dared to check it. When I complained I was scowled at. Not worth the wait or the money. more

fantastic food and wines for unreal prices 10/31/2007

One of my favorite places in the City. The steaks are always great, grilled on an open flame and with a few tasty sauces to choose from. For vegetarians there is the portabella mushroom steak as well. Wine prices are unreal. Not marked up and some of the higher end ones are actually less $$ than in the wine shop!!!! We usually have a half bottle of champagne to start, there are quite a few to choose from, I believe the Bollinger, my favorite is $24.00 or something like that. It gets very crowded and they do not take reservations forsmall groups but it is always well worth the wait. Highly recommend the dessert sampler. Pros: great food fantastic wine list Cons: can get a bit crowded and noisy more

i googled ""late night dessert"" and Landmarc was the closest spot so...i locked my kids in the bathroom and took off in search of something to cure my craving. what i found was a really lovely couple involved in a booze fueled domestic dispute on the patio...we enter, then ordered some ice cream cones...the service was good...ice cream - blah, cones - blah, nutella eclair - blah!!! wouldn't go back. it would have been soooooo worth the walk to the all night creperie in the LES bitchezzzz. more

Chic atmosphere, affordable wine, lovely service 4/11/2007

My friend and I pulled this restaurant out of a NY Times review of places for late-night food - we arrived for dinner at 1 a.m. There were only a couple of other tables full at that hour, but the steaks were tasty, the waitress attentive and friendly, and the mini desserts inexpensive and delicious. A great find, I'll definitely be back there in the wee hours. more

BEST WINE LIST IN THE CITY! 1/31/2007

Landmarc is one of our favorite restaurants in the city. The service is always friendly, the space is inviting and the food is delicious. But the highlight if this joint is the wine list. This is without a doubt the BEST and LOWEST markup wine list in the city. On average we pay about half of what we'll pay anywhere else or the same bottle of wine and their half bottle selection is wonderful. The desserts are simple but for $15 you can get ALL of them and they offer ice-cream in cones and sweet cotton for the kids. It is a true neighborhood place that is worth traveling for. more

This is one of my favorite places in the neighborhood. 11/6/2006

My boyfriend and I go here for special occasion dinners, but also just for weekend brunch. It's kind of a hidden gem, so I really shouldn't be talking about how great it is, but it really does deserve amazing reviews. The food is terrific. I've never had anything remotely bad, nor have any of my dining companions. The best things about it though are the wine list, which is extensive and super reasonably priced, and the dessert list, which is a bunch of inexpensive, small, delicious desserts so you can order a bunch of them and share. The ice cream is the best of them, and trust me, I've tried them all! more

eat meat - and go away hungry? 10/3/2006

the restaurant is trendy in that industrial tribeca way (if you like that sort of thing), and service is good. the best thing this restaurant offers is meat - any meat - and its side dishes. i made the mistake of ordering the ""pan seared"" monk fish, which actually tasted more pan fried, and was dry around the edges. it came on top of grease-soaked watercress and fried potatoes, so i felt that basically my attempt to eat a less-fatty fish dish was fruitless. Pros: meat, meat and mo' meat (plus a few side dishes) Cons: dark and ridiculously small portions for some of the courses. more

Perfect Neighborhood Dinner Spot 9/20/2006

6 of us went for dinner at 7:30 on a Wednesday night. It was a full house: a little warm but not loud. For starters the mussels with shallots, wine, and parsley were delicious as were the goat cheese profiteroles and the calamari. The olive oil is awesome if you enjoy rosemary. All members of the party enjoyed their main dishes which ranged from monkfish to hangar steak to the risotto. I was impressed with the fact the risotto was not over-salted as tends to be the fate of this dish usually. My side of haricot verts was perfect, had a great crunch and flavor. Desserts were on the smallish side but for $3 we had no complaints. The cones were a perfect after dinner cap. Very reasonable wine list made for an easy on the wallet dinner...2 bottles, apps, main courses, and dessert for all was a mere $57 pp. Definitely recommend Landmarc. Pros: Good food, nice ambiance, value Cons: a little warm more

tasty fare but pricey for brunch! 8/30/2006

This was a mother's day special. Tho they didn't have any special mother's day menu. all the food was prepared well, salads, the french toast, etc. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. But we sat upstairs where their a/c was not operating (under repair) so was quite hot/humid. For the prices set here, you would think they would go to any lengths to get their equipment repaired to ensure customer comforts. Most expensive brunch I have had in a while. I would recommend Thalia's in theater district for 1/2 the price with their own unique menu. French Toast was delicious! Don't order bacon as this was like bacos - hard to chew canadian style chunk bacon! SUMIT: Visit at least once, tho didn't have the pleasure of dinner here. Good choice for brunch but be prepared to open your wallet! Pros: brunch menu, svc Cons: a/c out of svc on hot humid day more

OUTSTANDING FOOD and would go again, (but...) 8/22/2006

The food at Landmarc is some of the best you'll find anywhere. Everything is so flavorful, right down to the dipping oil for bread with fragrant rosemary. Nothing is bland or just ""ok"", everything you taste has ""umph""! Pros: Outstanding food and service Cons: Very small more
