Best hairdresser in town hands down!!!!!!!! 3/30/2008

I heard about Ty through a friend in LA. I was told Ty listens to what a client wants and needs. Boy did he!!!!!! I approached Ty telling him I was interested in cutting al my hair off. Ty reassured me I was at the right place. Ty told me we were going to take it slow, walking me through every step. He told me he was going to cut half what I was wanting to cut first. Reason being first so I didn't freak out and secondly so I was sure I really wanted to cut it all off. Thank god he did!! He was so right, the length he cut it at first was right on! Bottom line Ty listens and thats what matters in a hairdresser. Do yourself a favor go see TY HOLBROOK! Pros: beautiful salon Cons: there are none more

John Frieda 1/22/2008

The absolute best stylist/colorist duo in NYC has to be Fabien and Martine. Fabien cut my hair for twelve years, and Martine colored it. I love you both. more

Avoid like the plague, particularly Martine 6/8/2007

Beware, particularly if you are from out of town. I went there to have my hair colored. Martine went to work without consulting me on what I wanted or what she was doing or the cost of what she was doing. In my opinion, she may have known that I was from out of town and took advantage of me. \r \r Over 4 hours later, she left my hair completely fried and uneven, and acted completely shocked when I refused to pay her approximately $500 . . . that's right . . . $500 for her services (or lack thereof). Martine actually threatened to call the cops on me for refusing to pay for her incompetence. I realize that this place has high ratings, etc., but perhaps its for haircuts. In my heart of hearts, I could never recommend this place to a friend (or enemy even) for coloring. It was a complete disaster. \r \r People make mistakes, but the reason for this negative review is the manner in which I was treated by Martine after complaining about her mistake. This was a birthday present, and in addition to botching the coloring and threatening to call the cops, she made me over an hour late to my own birthday party. Her response ""It's New York, just go late."" Thanks a pantsload Martine, that's sage advice. Sheesh. Pros: Leaving Cons: Entering more

Might be a decent salon, but service is poor 4/23/2007

As a new client going in for a consultation, I would think that the staff would be more welcoming. But perhaps, I didn't ""fit in"" with the other clientele...I was on time for my appt, but sat waiting to be acknowledged for about 15-20 minutes. When the stylist, Ty Holbrook finally appeared, he made me feel as if I was inconveniencing him. He was clearly with another client and interrupted her services to give me a consultation. He's rec'd a lot of press coverage, which is why I made the appt, but clearly his expertise does not include service. He rushed through, and when I asked him a few questions, he kept plugging his upcoming 'Today Show' appearance instead of addressing my concerns. I never made the appt...I don't care how great you are supposed to be, you should treat your clients (potential and existing) with respect. Maybe it was just Ty, so I can't remark on the whole salon. But if that kind of diva behavior is tolerated, then that is unacceptable. more

Lovely 4/19/2007

I'd been looking for a great salon for my long hair, and decided to sign up for a cut class at John Frieda to see what they were like. I was amazed!!! The student who cut my hair, Layla, was so sweet and very meticulous in getting everything just right. THe Instructor, Mariko, was terrific, and it was great to see how well they work together. My hair looks the best it ever has - the cut even made the color look brighter (and I've never colored my hair)! This is Layla's 3rd time cutting, which was shocking because she was such a pro. I'm going to keep going back to her during her training and after she's part of the regular team. \r If you're considering being a cut model, Layla is wonderful!!!! The rest of the students were all doing a great job...you can't go wrong! Pros: Lovely space, friendly staff, extremely professional more

my best hair cut ever!!! 3/20/2007

Dear friends,\r \r I truly recommend Demetrius Pombo, a hairstylist of John Frieda Salon. He is one of the most handsome men and artist that I have ever met in my entire life. It was an amazing experience for me togo to the hottest salon in Los Angeles and in the most beautiful street as well, Melrose Place, where all the celebrities go. When I got there Demetrius was working with Linda Evangelista and I was going to be his next client, what a great experience!!! The service is the best. I felt like a princess when I was greeted by his assistant and the whole team of John Frieda Salon. It was a beautiful experience and the place is so relaxed and pretty that one could feel like they are on vacation in there. It?s nice having great coffee sitting near, by the pool with a beautiful view of trees and the sky was fabulous. I will recommend Demetrius Pombo, he is one of the most talented and handsome hairstylist in town. I totally got it now why he has all this celebrities? clientele on his chair.\r Ah...I got his website: \r www.demetriuspombo\r Check it out and good look...\r If you see him you will have the best haircut of your life!!! more

GOOD HAIR DAY EVERY DAY! 1/27/2007

\r \r I wanted to try something new, so I?ve decided to visit John Frieda salon, which is located near my house. I?ve asked for an appointment with an experienced hairstylist. I was then offered service by Gerard Touroul. I was pleasantly surprised by his approach during my initial consultation. I gave him full discretion as to the look he wanted to create. From start to finish I was treated to my highest expectation and Gerard transformed my look into exactly desired hairstyle. I?m very pleased that I was able to find someone who has a vision and who knows how to create appropriate finish for ones face. I?m recommending him to everyone who wants to evolve his or her hairstyle to the next level. \r more

This is a ""wow"" 7/7/2006

We are from the Midwest and I made an appointment as a treat for my daughter in law with Martine and Fabian. While waiting for her, Martine suggested she ""paint"" my hair. Then she took me to Fabian for a cut. I have short hair and I figured there was nothing they could do with it! Well, after a couple of hours with these 2, I look FABULOUS! I feel beautiful, I look really up to date and, when I went home, everybody raved about the color and cut! Now I am planning trips to NYC just because of them! No one here can approach their talent! I'm ""hooked"" and you will be too! Thanks so to you two wonderful and talented hair colorists and stylists. You won't go wrong here! Tried the John Barrett Salon a few years ago and it was a disaster. I trust John Frieda implicitly! I went again when we were in NYC in October and the first time WAS NOT a fluke! My second hair cut and balyage coloring was as great as the first time. Now I am hooked! Now I'm afraid to go to anyone in St Louis! I have to go to NYC for my haircuts and coloring. Expensive when you add airfare and hotel -- but WORTH IT! Pros: The haircut and color were fantastic! These folks are so talented and creative! Cons: It is pricey -- but you get what you pay for! more

Best Haircut EVER! 4/1/2006

I travel over 500 miles to get my haircut from Herve. I have searched for years for a great haircut and now that I have found this salon and Herve, I am in LOVE!! The shop is neat. Staff attentive-ok, also a bit impressed with themselves, but they are talented! Cost might seem expensive, but with a good haircut, you don't need one very often. more

Bottom line, great people and great cuts 1/24/2006

I don't know what the earlier poster was talking about -- I have always found atmosphere nice and the place is certainly clean. After being a bit of a salon nomad for years now I have settled on John Frieda and been a loyal client to the stylist salon for almost 2 years. The cuts I have received from Morico (my mother goes to Fabian) have been fantastic and last well. Their prices have risen a bit, but what accessory is more important than your hair? It's well worth it. more

Fab Experience 3/8/2005

After searching for 5 years for an excellent hair salon, I have found it in John Frieda. The staff were so friendly - the service was excellent. I had a cut and color and it truly is the best hair cut and color I have had. I was at other supposedly "" top rated"" salons and have had botch jobs done. Ask for Sara or Herve - and you will not be disappointed. Pros: Not crowded, Attentive Service, Friendly more

I happened upon Rick Haylor at the John Frieda salon - after a friend from the UK came to visit. She was so excited at the prospect of seeing the famed Haylor - that I felt obliged to try him for myself. What a great descision! Lovely guy, really down to earth. Fantastic haircut! He gave me loads of really useful styling tips! I'm thrilled. Definitely going back. more

A big NO 6/13/2002

I nervously tried John Frieda because I thought they had a good reputation and I needed to find a new salon in the city. However, I was very disappointed with my experience and even more diappointed with my haircut. The atmosphere was busy and the setting was dirty and unprofessional. As they cut my hair, hair fell all over my purse and myself. And for the cut, the stylist did not listen to what I wanted and made me very upset. I would not go back or recommend this salon to anyone. more
