I cant believe so many gave this place a 10. Makes you wonder?? This place is mediocre at best. It was my first time there and I made the mistake of ringging the door bell. The...

Most Amazing Facial 4/30/2008

A facial with Jillian Wright at "Glo Skin Spa" is an amazing experience. Jillian has been my beautician for the past five years and my skin has never looked better. The minute you walk in this cozy spa you feel immediately welcome. Friendly service, spotless treatment rooms and a warm and welcoming atmosphere is what you can expect every time. Jillian is obsessed with skin care and keeps abreast of the latest developments. She is truely a master at making you feel comfortable and at the same time takes a genuine interest in improving your skin. Thank you Jillian! Pros: Small intimate experience Cons: Absolutely none! more

Best microdermabrasion place in NYC 4/28/2008

I have been looking for a microdermabrasion place in NYC for a long time, I used to have it regularly when I lived in London. Finally I have found the place! I went to see Marjorie after looking on their website and I just really liked her background. It is a very calm place and Marjorie took such good care of me (even gave me some career advice), we had a nice talk and when the mask was on, she told me to just lie down and relax for 20 minutes and she gave me a fabulous arm and hand massage. And before we started she told me that since I had been on accutane my skin might not be ready for it, so she had to have a proper look, that made me feel very at ease. So today (2 days after) most of my co-workers have complimented me on how glowing my skin looks and it feels great. Marjorie recommended some products and so far so good. I am so happy I found "my" facialist. I will never change. Only downside is that it's a bit pricey, but for what you get it's well worth it. Pros: Marjorie, the atmosphere and the result Cons: A bit pricey more

Best estheticians EVER encountered 3/13/2008

I don't know how to express my gratitude to the ladies at Glow, particularly Kyra. Several months ago I experienced the worst acne flare-up of my life. After reading glowing reviews on Citysearch, I made an appointment with Kyra because I was attracted by her profile on the Glow website. Her background in nutrition and Ayurveda jived with my philosophy about caring for your body from the inside out. Not only did I see great results after the first treatment, but also learned a thing or two from her and other estheticians. What amazed me was how much she cared. When I told her I was using a prescription acne medication she hadn?t heard of, Kyra took the time to research it. Kyra was amazingly patient and thorough with extractions, once even finishing at 10pm because my skin was so bad that day. I kept coming while my skin was purging, and started the Somme treatment plan. But no one at the spa pushed products on me until I asked about them myself. I just had completely different skin! If you are looking for a place to go for general monthly maintainance, the prices at Glow are comparable (or better) to other good spas. It has REALLY paid off. I began coming to Glow in July of ?07 and it is now February ?08?and my skin looks FANTASTIC! Like it was before puberty. No pustules for the last two months. Kyra is now doing microderm treatments for me and after two treatments, my scars have faded significantly. I have never received so many compliments on my skin. Most importantly however, I no longer need to cake on the makeup to cover up pimples and pustules. All I need is a little tinted moisturizer, and I?m good to go. And it?s all due to Kyra and the ladies at Glow! Pros: knowledgable, dedicated, caring and EFFECTIVE professionals Cons: none more

Glow Clinical Skin Care 3/11/2008

It was my first time at this spa for a massage and I was a bit skeptical but turned out to be amazing. The staff was very comforting and inviting. Alex gave me the most amazing massage...my back was tense and slightly soar...by time I left and the next day my back felt great. Am so happy I found this place I will continue going there. Am going back to try their facials...the staff had someoen check out my skin before making an appointment and they gave great advice on what I needed and what I do not need....I was 100% satisfied and will go back. Pros: Relaxing envoirment, comforting staff, very clean Cons: non more

Jaime is FANTASTIC!!! 2/10/2008

I have acne prone skin and nothing seemed to work. For the past three months I have been going to Glow Skin Spa to get an acne facial and my skin has never looked better. She is informative, helpful, and cordial. Jaime is fantastic! Pros: Facials are great Cons: None more

Excellent Facial for a hard-to-please customer! 2/7/2008

I recently had a facial at Glow. It was my first time there and I decided to try it because it is much closer to my work and apartment than Bliss Soho, where I have gone regularly for 2+ years. I made my appointment online--wonderfully convenient, although I'd suggest printing out your confirmation just in case. My facial was with Kyra who was warm, professional, and skilled. She did a tremendous amount of extractions, which my skin desperately needed. I realize that some people like gentle facials which will most likely leave your skin glowing but, in my experience, if your face needs "work" (exfoliation, extractions, etc), you will most likely leave red and see the benefits the next day. I was nervous about spa staff pushing products on me and I experienced none of that. It is in an office building so you're not walking into a multi-story spa space but the waiting room was perfectly fine, as was the treatment room. I really recommend giving facials here a try! more

Not good for massages 2/1/2008

My boyfriend and I went here for massages a few weeks ago, and left disappointed. We received deep-tissue massages, thinking they were part of the couples package we ordered. However, they conveniently failed to mention that we'd be charged additional amount of money. I felt that they were taking advantage of us because we were massage novices. Not only that, but I woke up in pain the following day. I spoke to a friend of mine who is a masseuse, and another who is an osteopathic physician, and both stated that it was wrong of them to perform a deep-tissue massage on someone who has only had 1 massage years ago. So not only was I ripped off, but it was for a service that was deemed inappropriate. I will definitely not be returning. more

facials are amazing - thanks Keri 1/10/2008

I have been getting facials and body treatments from keri for the past 5 years. I keep going back because Keri listens and adapts to my skin's increasing sensitivity. I love the way my skin looks and feels for days after treatments. I have recommended Keri to all my friends and they have become repeat customers! For Christmas I even sent my boss for a facial and she told me Keri and her facial were absolutely amazing. If you have ever had any doubts about getting a facial your worries will be put to rest after a facial from Keri. Pros: great service Cons: none more

Never disappointed- BEST FACIAL IN NYC 12/31/2007

I have tried almost every spa in New York City trying to find the perfect combination of pampering and comfort. Glow is a beautiful space but without the pomp and circumstance that can make you uncomfortable. Since I started seeing Marjorie, my skin has never looked better. I brought a friend last Saturday and was even more pleased with the customer service. I had tried to book with Marjorie, she didn't have any available appointments for that day. Upon my arrival, Marjorie noticed me in the waiting area and was able to switch her other appointment to accomodate me. No other place in town cares as much about their clientele. If you are looking for a high quality facial without pushy sales people or obnoxious fellow spa goers, this is the place for you. I am looking forward to my next appointment! Pros: Marjorie, easy going mellow attitude Cons: None more

So happy with my facial with Dana!! 12/23/2007

I went to see Dana for the first time - she was amazing. I'm so happy with my results. She really took her time with me and explained everything that was wrong with my skin. She gives an amazing massage with her facial. We discussed shaping my eyebrows for my next visit - so I'm looking forward to that. Thank you for making me feel great. Pros: Quality Staff, Beautiful Spa more

Hot Stone Massage Was Extremely Disappointing 12/17/2007

I had been to Glow for a facial and loved it. So I was eagerly anticipating my Hot Stone Massage. Boy, was I let down. The massage therapist spent more time fiddling with the stones than touching me. I spent 65% of the time lying on the table waiting for her to use the stones. I have had hot stone massages at some very high end spas and knew what to expect, but this was FAR BELOW my expectations. When I called to speak with the owner about it the next day (the massage therapist checked me out and I felt uncomfortable voicing my concern), the woman on the phone told me that the stones are used more than actual massage. I explained that this was far below what I expected and that I felt like I was waiting the entire time. Basically, they were unwilling to accept what I was telling them -- that the service was very disappointing -- and implied that I had misconstrued expectations of what a hot stone massage is. The woman on the phone offered me 10% off the next time I came. The owner wouldn't get on the phone but said I could use a 20% coupon I had originally brought and was denied use of because I was paying with a gift certificate. The massage was $150 and was definitely not worth it. Sadly, I will not be returning to Glow. Their lack of valuing what I was telling them or taking it seriously, plus a waste of $150 and my time, has seriously disappointed me. Pros: Nice atmosphere Cons: Poor customer service, poor massage skills more

BEST facial By Marjorie 10/22/2007

I am a SPA LOVER and I assure you Glow Skin Spa is a do not miss. A hidden secret on the Upper East Side!!! The atmosphere is cozy and relaxing as if you are in your own living room. Not factory like at all, the staff makes you feel so special from the minute you enter their "haven" Majorie will be my new best friend -her technique & knowledge was super and her bed side manners were terrific. Cant wait to go back!! Pros: great location, great service more

Best Facials in NYC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 9/20/2007

This is the place to go if you want your skin to "Glow"!!! Everyone in the world has a different skin type and needs and Glow/Jillian caters to the individual and not a package. Glow has all the things you would expect from a spa and more great customer service/cleanliness/non pushy attitude/spending time with the individual and looking beyond external factors. I love it,it has done wonders for me and I recommend it to anyone who wants to take time out to look & feel great!! more

Meh, save your money and go elsewhere. 8/8/2007

I have to say, I wasn't impressed. I decided to go to the spa despite reading some negative reviews, and now I wish I hadn't. The facial made me break out, and now I have acne marks!! It was overpriced and I won't go back. Something fishy- I noticed that the negative review warning people not to go has been conveniently removed. Shady. Cons: Subpar facials. more

Best Facials and Kyra is fantastic 8/5/2007

From day one I have been 100% satisfied with my services at Glow Skin Spa and particularly those given by Kyra. I was actually hesitant at first because I have notoriously sensitive skin, but Kyra is so adept in her work she has never disappointed me. In fact, since going to see her about once every six weeks for the last four months (or so) my skin's texture has vastly improved, I look younger, and I have simply beautiful skin. Just as importantly, the facials I receive with Kyra are incredibly relaxing. Even the extractions don't really bother me. I purposely use my facials as relaxation treats because they are so soothing and relaxing!!! Finally, although Kyra never pushes you to buy anything when I first started she recommended the perfect products to aid in my skincare at home. I highly recommend going to Glow Skin Spa and seeing Kyra!!!! I also want to mention that Dana gives great brow service as well. VERY happy customer all the way around. Pros: Knowledgeable staff, relaxing, great service Cons: none more

Best Facial Experience with Keri at Glow Skin Spa 6/26/2007

I have been getting facials for years but never found the perfect mix between an awesome facial and a low key but modern spa, until now. I have been going to Glow Skin Spa for the past year and have been using Keri for all my facials. She took the time to speak with me about what I wanted for my skin and what I wanted from the overall spa experience. She then evaluated my skin and suggested the double surface exfoliation facial and my skin has never looked better. My mom even commented on how good my skin looked after I first started going to Glow. Keri gives you great insight into your skin and provides for a relaxing and skin improving facial. The spa recently expanded and offers a great lines of skin care options to use at home. I highly recommend Keri at Glow for a facial or for any spa treatment, I know you won't be dissappointed. Pros: Great service and atmosphere - appointments available in the evenings more

Best Customer Service 6/21/2007

As a savvy spa client I can confidently say that Glow Skin Spa offers the best customer service and the most professional staff in NYC. There is no assembly line here as you find in most NYC spas. Upon entering the newly expanded location I feel as if I am in my best girlfriends house ready to have a party. Jillian gives the best brazilian bikini wax in NYC(I have been everywhere). She is extremely meticuous when it comes to removing any stray hairs so we leave feeling and looking our best! The facials here are amazing as well. After a complete skin analysis Jillian will customize your facial to fit your needs. Her facials are results oriented no fluff here! I have just experienced pure bliss after my massage session with Doreen. She is ultra professional and has amazing hands too! It is clear that only the best of the best work here! Pros: online booking, caring and intelligent staff. Cons: NONE! more

eh... 6/4/2007

I received a facial at glow, but I didn't really come out with that "glowing" skin that everyone keeps talking about. I told the aesthetician everything I specifically looking for to improve my skin and kept asking her a questions on what I need to do to achieve it, but I didn't really get any clear answers. She didn't explain what she was doing or even what kind of facial she was doing based on my skin needs. And she got the mask in my eye two times...which included the Lactic acid--and that buuuuuuurns. I really wanted to see what all the hype is about this place...but I left a little disappointed. But I must say in all this negativity that there are very nice "add ons" to experience...such as a mini neck/head/shoulder massage. Pros: clean, friendly staff Cons: results, small space more

Jillian SAVED my skin, there's no words to describe how grateful I am! Best of the Best. 5/23/2007

I went through a period of time where I kept breaking out and was left with a lot of scar, redness, and pigmentation. I had to wear makeup everyday, was embarassed to take my makeup off, even infront of my bf. I tried so many different places in NY, nothing really made any difference. Until I met Jillian. She really knows about every and individual skin type, problems, and treatment. She recommands products that really does work. Her facials are not only luxuriouis, but the MOST important thing is, they REALLY work and you will see a difference. I have very sensitive skin along with a bunch of other problems, I felt so safe in her hands. I've spend tons of money going to expensive facials all over the city, this place really is THE BEST. Jillian explains very throughly of every treatment and product she ueses as she goes along. For the first time in 6 years, I didn't wear any makeup at all today and was out running around in the city. My skin has become so good, that a cosmetic company has asked me to be their model! I cannot live without her facials. Pros: effective, knowledgeable, service Cons: NONE more

Saved my skin 5/21/2007

I used to go to SkinKlinic, which I liked. Little did I know their glycolic treatments were turning my dry skin into paper. Jen (who is no longer there) spent a long time with me assessing my skin and explaining what I needed to do to turn it around. I now apply glycolic only once a week and my skin has never looked better. Pros: Staff, Facials Cons: Atmosphere isn't exactly "spa" like but it's fine more

Editorial
  • In Short
Since 1999, this Upper East Side spa has been a labor of love, expanding from a tiny one-room operation to a six-room suite. But that doesn't mean it's outgrown its down-to-earth vibe--rather, the soothing blue relaxation lounge is more akin to your best girlfriend's living room and estheticians are easily mistaken for old friends (and for some clients, they are). Founder Jillian Wright's loyal following means she's booked out for months, but not to worry--she trains each of her staff in the ways of top-notch treatment.
