Great location in the Village, neighborhood feeling, outdoor seating in the nice weather and friendly servers Pros: comfortable atmosphere

I went to this restaurant last weekend with a big group of friends and the beginning of our evening was enjoyable. There was a lovely piano playing and the service was good. How...

Great place for music 2/24/2010

We especially enjoy the music and the atmosphere at the Greenwich Village Bistro. Carla, the owner, is always welcoming, mixing around to customers. We visit NYC several times each year and make sure to stop at the Bistro, Great location! Last weekend we enjoyed ""The Bill Murrray Experience"" with a fab vocalist. Also ""Fellaheen"" which bills itself as ""Stange Music for Strange Times"". One of the lead vocalists really sounds like Tom Waits.. Enjoy! Pros: No cover charge for music more

Good spot in the Village 11/16/2009

We Think We are Cool; Let's Overcharge 7/6/2009

Poorly prepared food, way overpriced, terrible menu selections. For instance, I ordered the ""hummus platter."". It came with three triangles, that is 3/7th!! of one pita, a glob of hummus, fiur olives, and a pile of warm cheese. All this for $10! They also have a ""spinach salad."". Know what is on that? Spinach. Yep. That's it. For $8, you get a very small plate of spinach leaves. And the sweet potato fries. Well. A tiny plate of limp shards. I am not a big eater, but the portion sizes, especially compared to the prices, as well as the nearly inedible preparation mean you should go somewhere else. more

Welcome to the Village 4/9/2009

A surprisingly local bar/restaurant in the heart of Manhattan's most touristy neighborhood. I'm happy to call the place my local! Good taps, good tasting, simple menu! A nice selection of wine with GREAT staff and ownership. Probably one of the best patios for people watchin'; nestled up nicely against the newly renovated Father Demo Square, the defacto center of the Village while WSP is being torn apart. Enjoy Pros: Local vibe, GREAT patio! more

Best Local Bar with the Friendliest Staff and Ownership (Awesome Music and Atmosphere) 10/20/2008

I was hanging out and walking around the Greenwich Village area on a beautiful Sunday and stumbled upon Greenwich Village Bistro. After walking in and sitting at the bar, we were promptly greeted by the bar and our drink order was taken. The staff was so friendly (reminded me of Cheers) as they knew most of the people coming in...meaning, they have regulars. I felt so at home and comfortable. Pros: Ambience, wonderful service/team members and a rocking awesome owner more

Good Village Spot 2/27/2008

I've been to Greenwich Village Bistro a few times, sometimes with just a friend or two and other times with a larger group. I've always had good service and the waitstaff is always friendly and accomodating. The food and drinks are tasty as well. Also, it's a great location in the Village. Pros: Food, Drinks, Service more

Not a place for a large group of people or if you have any place to go after dinner. 1/15/2008

I went to this restaurant last weekend with a big group of friends and the beginning of our evening was enjoyable. There was a lovely piano playing and the service was good. However, as the night wore on things got worse. Our food ended up taking an entire hour to come out. It was ridiculous and we were starving. When it did finally come out, it unfortunately was not that great at all. When we had to go to the bathroom it was difficult because there were drunk men passed out or throwing up in the bathroom. When we voiced our upset feelings to the owner she was barely apologetic. We spent over $300 while we were there and for the poor service she took off a wopping $18 (our appetizers - which were very measly servings anyways)! I do not recommend going to this place with more than four people in your party (since they blamed our hour wait for the food on the number of people in our party). Pros: Entertainment (Piano or Band playing) Cons: Service/Food takes way too long to come out, You might get stuck on a night there when there are drunk men at the bar causing a seen. more

Best kept secret in NYC 8/20/2007

good live music, good food, good drink, good atmpsphere, good location. I have a great time every time I go there Pros: good atmosphere, live music, food, drink more

Wonderful late brunch! 7/7/2007

I've been coming to NYC for 25 years; how have I missed this? Slept late, was wandering the Village with my husband and came across this lovely place. Smoked salmon, REALLY poached eggs, and great hash browns. Oh, and I had a mimosa--only it was made with peach nectar! Pros: Real, honest food; classic menu for brunch. more

Perfect place to spend your evening. 6/28/2007

Fabulous food...but even more, fabulous people. While on vacation we stumbled on it one evening and had to go back the next night. The chef, Patrick, who we were able to meet, created some of the best mussels I have found. We also had steak and potatoes, that made a perfect combination on the plate and in the mouth. It was the kind of place that you go through 2 bottles of wine and too many stories to count. I would recommend it to anyone visiting...especially those who prefer to get away from the tourist mob of Times Square. Pros: Service, music, menu Cons: Hard to grab a cab at night there. more

Great drinks and Service 4/17/2007

I recently stopped by the Bistro with my 15 year old daughter who wasn't used to a restaurant as quaint as the bistro. She loved the experience. The food, which was recommended by the waitress, was delicious. My drink was a mixture of mango juice and saki which was also recommended by the knowledgable and friendly waitress, was incredible and not pricey. (I love saki but this was unexpectedly good) The atmosphere was pleasant and quite enjoyable. I understand they have music on certain days during dinner, although when I was there, there was no music. I look forward to going back when the music is playing. Great wait staff. Pros: Service, drinks, food more

This Bistro is the best! 3/9/2006

This is the ultimate chill out place. The acoustics are incredible, everyone there makes you feel like you are someone special and so welcome to be there. I've practically had everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. I can't say enough about the wine list-the Shiraz is especially delightful. The music and the ambience takes you to such a blissful place, you must check it out. Pros: Ambience, Music, Price more

Best Kept Secret in the West Village 9/20/2005

Wandered by chance into the GV Bistro 4 years ago on vacation and have been going ever since. Last trip we were there 5 times in three days - great food, great service, and the owners made us feel like family, literally. On one night we heard an Irish band, saw Thai dancers, and drank absolutely lethal German beer for next to nothing. For a genuine NY/non-touristy experience, this is the best place in the Village. Tell them that you're from Pittsburgh and you'll have a friend forever... Pros: Friendly, Comfortable, Moderate Prices more

Cute nabe place, worth repeat visit 9/13/2004

Service is a little spacey, but it's mostly harmless and the staff was tremendously nice. Food is almost good enough to merit such prices (most entrees are about 15-20ish) -- but it's not stunning. The real draw is the lovely atm.: laid back, open, accepting. It's the antithesis of stuffy, with folks sitting around for hours, people reading and writing. One woman was rolling up a ball of yarn, using two chairs. Wines and beers are pretty well chosen and fairly priced. It's a tad overpriced, but pleasant enough that I'd go back at least once. Pros: Pleasant and friendly, good-v.good food, pleasant wine list more

Something for everyone 7/25/2004

I loved it. The is a great selection for vegetarians and it is inexpensive. All the food was great. I can't wait to go back. more

This a great, friendly place! 8/2/2002

Don't listen to the bad reviews. The bistro is a great place. Their burger is out of this world. The best thing about them is that they are one of the most friendly, down to earth places left in New York. they always make you feel at home. Additionally, they have a great happy hour from 4-7 which includes premium drafts!! more

Painfully slow service 6/18/2002

As much as I enjoy taking the time to have a relaxing Sunday brunch, this was ridiculous. I'm still not sure who our waitstaff was, and am not sure he or she knew either. It's a shame because the food is very good. I feel sorry for the chef for creating a lovely meal, and then having it ruined by the staff when it leaves the kitchen. Please, PLEASE, hire new waistaff..... Pros: Good Food, Nice atmosphere Cons: Horrible service more

Fantastic Felafel 6/12/2002

Wandered in here after a show. It's a cute little place, outdoor seating, typical, if pleasantly underpopulated inside. But I was amazed to find that the Said plate, Mediterranean appetizers, was really tremendous -- some of the best felafel I've ever had and a very tasty tabouleh, as well. The pinot grigiot (by the glass, yet!) was also quite good. All in all, an unexpected pleasure. more
