Funky Decor, Good Food 9/30/2006

You may have a little bit of trouble finding the place, but once you are there you will be glad you sought it out. Head down the alley (Freeman's Alley) on the north side of Rivington and land in Freeman's. Don't let the taxidermy frighten you (the goose is my favorite) and settle in for a mean burger, excellent artichoke dip or a buckwheat pancake that will fill you up and leave you with a smile. The coffee is strong and the atmosphere is pleasant. more

A great find 7/18/2006

My friend used to live on Rivington across from this little alleyway. One day we finally ventured down the end of it and found this fantastic restaurant! It has a very rustic, woodsy feel (stuffed animal head on the wall!). The maccaroni & cheese is soooo well prepared and rich. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. It's a little on the pricy side, but worth the trip to the lower east side. more

Hot new restaurant with gourmet home cooked meal! 10/25/2004

Don't know how we got in- apparently the word is out so this place is hot- but we had dinner at Freeman's back in its little alleyway in the Lower East side and it merits the hype. Small and very loud- we began our meal at 7:30pm by the time we left at 9:30 there were at least 30 people waiting to be seated- this dining room is uniquely packed with animal heads which gives it a bit of a hunting lodge feel. Small dishes can be shared or added to mains as accents- don't miss the mac and cheese, butternut squash with creme fraiche, and creamy mashed potatoes with truffle oil. The best main at our table was the trout! Make reservations on the early side or show up for a long wait. more
