We know there is better Indian food on the east side or even on Roosevelt road and we know this is a "chain" but we've become quite fond of our little Chutney's in Wallingford. They make a killer Mata Paneer Tikka Masala (peas and cheese) and the staff (particularly the owner) is AWESOME. He really is so consistently nice and friendly that it makes us really feel like locals just stopping by. We called the other night to see if we could buy just the farmer's cheese, paneer, and he said, "My dear, there is a world of possibilities- I can give it to you fried, I can give it to you raw..." and when I explained that I was trying to make a Tikka Masala pizza he recommended the raw. When my husband went to pick it up, he refused to let us pay for it! TOP THAT.

We thought we had rodents, so I turned to Judy's book for a referral and got Eagle recommended. Within 5 hours I had a service provider from Eagle, Tom, out at my house trying to find the source of our scratchy noise in our attic. He searched around the house, crawled in the crawl space, and even went up on the roof! He determined that we had a squirrel that was hiding out near our dormer. He spent at least 30 mins searching around and for NO CHARGE. He told me to call again if we really thought the noises were more than squirrels...now that is customer service!!! Call them.

Michael Ackerman (and his partner Ron Waxman) take the care for being the best realtors we've come across. They helped us buy our first house and have subsequently sold a house for friend and helped two other friends buy houses. Everyone gives Michael huge thumbs up. Why is he so good?
-Michael knows the market very well, meaning: he knows neighborhoods, he knows how the "game" works on bidding, he knows the best loan structure, the best mortgage lenders, the best way to rise to the top in the list of potential buyers (it isn't all about money)...
-Michael gets to know his clients and befriends them- he learns about your values, your interests, your vibe and once he does, he nails the types of houses you are looking for- he has incredible intuitions and he was spot on with us everytime.
-Michael is the most hilarious man- we loved spending time with him (and Ron) looking at houses and we were frankly sad when we found our home because we knew we would see less of Michael- we looked forward to our outings like they were a double date of sorts- we laughed a ton and just had fun!

This pool is warm, clean and generally quiet. There are private lessons offered all day and then there are family swims and lap swimming. I've taken my daughter there during the lap swim and we've practically had the pool to ourselves. The water temp is warm, the dressing rooms are clean and it is in a great location. The cost to "join" is $30 and then $3 each time you come swimming.

We decided to veer from Jai Thai and Tawon Thai (our usuals in Fremont) and walk further west on 36th. We intended to go to Kwanji Thai for a little variety. We weren't paying attention and we walked too far down 36th- to our great fortune we landed at Chillie's Paste!! Chillie's paste has a chain look to it (or is it just the name?) but it has the most kick ass panang we've had in Seattle. The curry came out piping hot and was just the right texture- the tofu was nice and the peppers fresh. The soup we ordered (we only remember it as #25) was also out of this world- perfect sour and sweet flavor, nicely accented with peanuts and tofu and glass noodles. The waitstaff was friendly and we're going back again and again. We already craved #25 as we made the walk home back to Wallingford. Don't miss this spot- right across from the George & Dragon.

We had a leak in our basement bathroom that didn't exactly make the house smell great (ugh) and we needed help fast. The Yellow Pages made us nervous but we spotted the big fat Roto Rooter ad and we took a leap of faith. They rocked. The agent helped us understand all costs up front (I think it was about $30 to make the trip out and give an estimate) and the service technician came within 45 minutes of our call- on a Sunday night! The technician gave us an estimate and fixed the problem on the spot. As much as we're "for the little guy", Roto Rooter delivered and how!

I have now had lunch and dinner at this fine dining spot and I recommend both! (you'll save a lot of money if you go at lunch- prices are 1/2). I think the environment sells this place and then the food surprises and delights. The owner has made it family friendly-with a spacious play area for kids and a changing table in the bathroom, not to mention photos of his son posted throughout the restaurant. The tzatiki is divine, the chicken schwarma sandwihc delish, zucchini cakes are a great appetizer and the desserts are very different and tasty. Lunch is order at the counter and find your own table, dinner you get seated and served.

Don't know how we got in- apparently the word is out so this place is hot- but we had dinner at Freeman's back in its little alleyway in the Lower East side and it merits the hype. Small and very loud- we began our meal at 7:30pm by the time we left at 9:30 there were at least 30 people waiting to be seated- this dining room is uniquely packed with animal heads which gives it a bit of a hunting lodge feel. Small dishes can be shared or added to mains as accents- don't miss the mac and cheese, butternut squash with creme fraiche, and creamy mashed potatoes with truffle oil. The best main at our table was the trout! Make reservations on the early side or show up for a long wait.

I think about Joe's. I fantasize about Joe's. I have flow across the country with a box of Joe's...but nothing beats a hot out of the oven slice, eaten standing perched at a table with some hot pepper flakes to boot and a soda over ice sipped through a straw to wash it down! I personally prefer the Joe's on Bleecker Street and I insist on going there everytime we go to NYC. I'll be dining on a slice in approx 10 days and I cannot wait.
