Editorial review from Citysearch 10/14/2012

The worst take out I have ever ordered after living in NYC for 12 years. The pizza was inedible. There was a 1 inch slab of cold cheese stacked on top of an accordion pleated pie that had slid all the way across the box en route. The wings were tasteless. The bleu cheese dip tasted industrial and rancid. The dressing was pure balsamic vinegar not balsamic vinaigrette. Please save your money – do not order from this place!!! more

THE WORST!!! 3/26/2012

This is regarding their Amsterdam Ave store. I purchased a Groupon for two appetizers, a large 2-topping pizza and a two-liter bottle of soda. The guy on the phone told me that Groupon had failed to add the tax so that it would cost me another $3.15, I accepted that, telling him it was understandable. He then told me to deliver the order, their store is exactly three (3) blocks away from where I live, would be $9.65. Are you serious? This place is a total ripoff. They are, not only, unethical, but from reading other reviews, apparently not very good, food wise. As far as I'm concerned, I'll get my money back from Groupon, no problem, but this place deserves to be run out of business for their questionable business practices. $9.65...even a taxi would not cost them $9.65 to go three blocks. more

No pepparoni on a regular slice? 8/3/2010

Hopped off a tour bus at Times Square when I seen a Ray's - been along time since I had a NY slice. Very long line out the door, not much selection I asked for a pepperoni slice and the guy started putting pepperoni on a sicilian slice, I said no I want a regular slice. He could barley speak english, but he said no pepperoni on the regular slice. WTH why can't I have pepperoni on a regular slice. Sooo I had a plain cheese - it was good but - what's the big deal to add pepperoni- I still don't get it? Pros: seating Cons: no pepperoni more

great pizza/rude service 5/9/2010

I ordered pizze from this store, and said I'd pick it up in about ten minutes. I took a taxi to get there, spent money to get there from my home. When I arrived, the people behind the counter told me they remembered speaking with me, but had not prepared the pizza. Only AFTER I arrived did they start preparing. The only problem with their waiting until I arrived was that I had to pay my taxi while he stood and waited. I explained to the people behind the counter how the whole reason for calling in advance was so that they actually prepare the pizza IN ADVANCE. I received a blank stare, and rudeness. It's a shame. The pizza is great, but the service is crappy and rude. I will not go back. I'd prefer to be treated like a human being. SHAME!!! Pros: good pizza Cons: bad service more

I never had their pizza but I love their chicken wings (honey mustard). Yum! more

Editorial review from GrubHub 9/24/2008

This place is between good and very good. The calzone was just ok. Small and not well made. The wings are banging. They are REAL wings that probably haven't been frozen. They ARE NOT the wings that already have breading on them. Italian sub is good, the prices are good, delivery was quick and the Mozz Sticks were awesome. more

best pizza 9/19/2008

What a great alternative to delivery. I'm still on the hunt for the best pizza in NY and I think that Amadeus pizza company is in the running. I love their pizza and it's better than delivery because you can pick it up and make it when you want. It only takes 10 minutes and it's so much better than delivery. Even I can't mess that up! Pros: quick pizza Cons: delivery more

Great timing and definitely good food for the money. more

Jail food would be a better choice 6/14/2008

This has to be the worst food I have ever eaten. You are better off going to your local deli and buying frozen pizza or pasta and microwaving it. Soggy pizza borderline sweaty flavorless pasta, smelly mushy calamari. We threw everything out! ugggg beware.. The other reviews were either by family members or people forced to review against their will. No New Yorker would Take a second Bite more

the smell takes you in 4/20/2008

f you pass in front of this place you can't help but be drawn inside. The quirkiness of the window display and the smell of the food are too inviting. But the slowest service will make sure you dont get value for money.\r If the crowds of new york are proving too much, head here. It's sure to perk you up and bring a smile to your face if you are not expecting a fast service Pros: delicious pizza that makes you feel in italy Cons: slowest service more

Great NY PIZZA 8/16/2007

Excellent Pizza, Terrible Service 7/21/2007

Delicious Pizza. There's nothing I can add that other users haven't already said; pizza had wonderful doughy crust, zesty sauce (perhaps a little dry), cheese firmly in place and not swimming around (i.e. not overwhelming the sauce). Expansive menu including variety of salads and hoagies, but none of which I can speak to.\r \r Service is what you'd expect from a parlor like this, maybe a little below. On one occasion, there was an Egyptian behind the counter at the Chelsea location who was astonishingly condescending, confrontational, and rude, not just to me but making fun of other patrons who either just leave the store or have their backs turned (and in case you're wondering how I know he's Egyptian, it's because he spent half the time making jokes about Asians and African-Americans that I had to ask). (Perhaps his humor was lost in translation?) Ultimately, uncomfortable and harassing. Other occasions haven't been special either; not friendly staff, can be surprisingly SLOW at times.\r \r Atmosphere is non-existent. Then again, you can't eat that and for the price and quality of the pizza, very few top. more

yummy pizza! 7/19/2007

I really fell in love with the pizza here, It was very fresh when i got it, warm, right out the oven, the cheese was delicious, the crust was perfect, I have no complaints about it! The price is very reasonable and the location is great, Its a great lunch spot for my co workers and I. I would highly suggest to check this place out! more

really is the greatest pizza in the city! 6/28/2007

Not only was this the greatest pizza in the city but the greatest pizza I have ever tried! Its delicious, the crust, the cheese, the toppings, everything about it. The food took about 5 minutes to get and it was reasonably priced, this place is def worth every penny anway. I would have to agree with everyone that its just amazing, nothing else to say, but great food. Keep up the good work Rays! Pros: great food Cons: not a great looking place more

Gerat place for a slice. 6/24/2007

Service is O.K. and a good place for a slice. Very good crust on a very flavorful Pizza. Ray's is as good a Pizza as you will find in New York. Pros: Good Pizza, and easy to find. Cons: Somewhat shabby inside. more

reasonable 5/9/2007

the pizza tasted good, the choice of toppings was pretty good, the pricing okay. it's definitely worth another shot! more

Do not order delivery 3/15/2007

I ordered from Ray's Pizza tonight and waited 1 hour and 45 minutes for my food to arrive. I called Ray's Pizza multiple times and was told each time that the delivery man was '5 minutes away' or that he was even 'in the building'. Ray's refused to give my the food for free, nor even any sort of discount. I would not have paid for it but took pity on the delivery man who said that if I did not then he would have to pay himself. That is outrageous. Absolutely outrageous. Do not order food from Ray's Pizza. more
