love Devachan especially April 8/21/2010

I was there last year November (as I'm from the Chicago area) and April cut my hair. She did the best job ever. I have had my hair trimmed and cut in Lake Zurich,IL. and Glen Ellyn, IL. but the stylist just do not even compare to April. I'm trying to get them to take classes to learn this way of cutting hair but to no avail. April I miss my hair looking awesome and can't wait to visit NY again.\r I let April figure out what hairstyle would be good for me. She gave me a very flattering style. The price was a little high but I would gladly pay it to look like I did. I bought the Large bottle of the Shampoo and conditioner and the gel and the diffuser attachment for the hairdryer. I go on their website to purchase the products I need. I laso love the scent of the products. more

great products- totally rude and sucky staff 8/15/2010

DO NOT GIVE YOUR BUSINESS TO THIS SALON!!! (The products are great and you can buy them for 2/3 of the price at a beauty supply store -just search for one in ur neighborhood- COSTCO also carries their stuff) The staff is the rudest and most prenetious EVER. I gave them 3 tries for the benefit of the doubt and now realize that I wasted my money. My first time there was satisfactory- pretty good cut and style, though my stylist was rude, innattentive and snotty. (I did learn a few things about styling my hair though) The 2nd time the stylist spent more time telling me how she had no time to cut and style my hair than actually doing anything to my hair. She was rude and completely inattentive. I got a half haircut, then a wash, then the SHAMPOO person set my hair. It came out heavy, limp, frizzy and with NO volume and my only request was that I have volume. The stylist then proceeded to finish cutting my hair, which just made it frizzier cuz she had to touch it. When I mentioned that it more

Devachan does it right 7/29/2010

I've been trying different spas all over the country for 20 years. The tranquil feeling you get from the second you walk in transports you to relax in another time and place. So clean, serene and beautiful. I loved the deep tissue massage. I have very tight muscles and I really need them worked and everytime I get massages at devachan they are always exactly what I need. Pros: No tipping policy. The price is the price. more

I made an appointment with Julie and let her know what I was looking for. Other than it being a little short for my liking, I was very happy with the Devachan experience. The women at the Front Desk at the Broome Street location were very lovely and accomodating. Jule picked me up at reception and she explained they cut hair dry so they can see your hair as it lays naturally. She talked a little about the products and caring for curly hair. Then her assistant took me to get my hair washed and took such good care of me! He gave me a great wash and showed me how to style my hair- leave some conditioner in, apply gel while hair is still wet, don't towel dry and then styled my hair to perfection. Julie came back over and snipped a few more pieces and I was set to go. They explained and recommended their products, but it wasn't a hard sell which was refreshing. Overall, it's a lot to pay for a haircut, but for years I was having my hair cut cheaply since I figured it didn't matter with curly hair. Devachan showed me I was way wrong. The best hair salon 5/24/2010

It was my first time in Devachan,walking down the stairs looking at the pretty rose peddles created a welcoming feeling.I have made my appointment a week before my service & a young gentleman by the name of Joseph welcomed me,i had 3 different hair colors in my head and had no idea of what to expect.Joseph went through a thorough consultation & worked his magic.I must say i was nervous at first but just as he determined what tones worked best for my completion and told me up front the maintenance it required i surrendered .While at the salon i started to observe the cutting method which was very unique.This is when i was referred to April they cut the hair dry and work with you natural texture.April took her time & was super sweet .My hair has never felt & looked as good.My color was balanced & my haircut was stunning, Its the best feeling walking into a place & not worrying on how your hair will turn out. Highly Recommended Hair Salon! 4/5/2010

I went to Devachan after my girlfriend recommended the salon to me and I am amazed with the results! To be honest, I am always nervous going to a new salon because I have curly hair that can sometimes be difficult to style, but they did an amazing job! I'm so happy I took the plunge and tried something new. I won't ever go back to my old salon. If you're looking for a new hair salon, I definitely recommend Devachan! more

To All Clients of Devachan,\r This is hairstylist Luciana D'Angelo formely from Devachan . I was sexually herassed by the male owners of this company. This company also does not have licensed hairdressers working here. I have been apart of this company for 10 plus years as a hairstylist .The business onwers that sexually abused me is Denis Dasilva and Keith Magnussen . I am now going to explain the real reason why I was fired. \r The reason I am no longer with Devachan is because I was pysically sexually herassed by both owners and have a civil suite pending against the company. I also have police reports and other eye witnesses that saw my disgusting treament there.I have proof of everything.!!!!!!\r I really wish none of you believe them and all of the positive reviews here. I have curly hair, obviously. But it's not nice curly hair, it's fine, nappy, and the curl is uneven. I've gotten my hair cut here twice, but it's not really worth the price. The hair cut was fine, not exceptional. BUT it didn't suit me at all. It didn't flatter my face or suit my lifestyle. However, at least it's better than Ouidad. I've seen people get really great cuts here. I'm guessing they have better hair than I do. Pros: nice environment, products Cons: cost, cut more

Great haircut if you like half a MULLET 12/19/2009

Great haircut if you want to look like Jane Fonda in Klute, but only on one side. Just like Veronicac mentions in her review- there are too many things to point out about this messed up haircut of choppy nonsense. its totally uneven with one side untouched and the other all hacked into. If you want your hair to look like a mullet/half shag on ONE SIDE ONLY then go blow a few hundred for a haircut here. Pros: Nada Cons: WORSE HAIRCUT IN MY LIFE more

Devachan Salon is terrible 10/29/2009

I waited 15 minutes for my appointment, then Susan left me in the middle of my cut for another 10 minutes to finish someone else. When I complained the owner asked me if I wanted to leave, with half my hair cut. To add insult to injury I ended u with the worst mess of a haircut! Terrible.. more

Rick Mahoney, top colorist & hair cutter. Spend all your time with an ace. Not only does he know hair, but he is wise and funny. So you can have a fun & valuable time while getting to look your best. Ive never been to a place like this! The staff was so warm and welcoming! It not only made me feel happy to be there but they all gave me the sense that they were happy to be there too! Working in the spa industry myself I know thats hard to come by. My stylists name was Rick and he was F-f-f-fantastic! He told me more about my hair in the first 30 seconds of meeting me than i could have rambled to him in 30 minutes. He asked me my likes/dislikes regarding my hair, provided me with educational info on what I was doing wrong but kept the appointment upbeat and positive. He let me vent my frustrations w my curly hair although I'm sure he hears the same stuff all day long. I was completely comfortable and I laughed the whole way through. Not only did I leave Devachan with my greatest haircut to date but I had a smile ear to ear the whole way through! Thanks so much guys! Pros: warm & informative staff, beautiful place, amazing cut! Cons: that there's not one open in Westchester yet! more

A Curly Girl's Mecca 2/6/2009

I've spent the past 7years recovering from mediocre to down-right awful haircuts in search of a stylist that could cut - but actually shape - my long, thick, poofy, unruly CURLY hair. My girl of years had moved away :( Spotted this gal on the subway rockin an awesomely shaped head of curly hair and brazenly asked her for the deal. ""Devachan, and ask for LUCIANA"", she brightly replied. Lo and Behold, a Godsend! It's really one of the best cuts I've had in years. Not what I expected - but better. They cut your hair dry and curly. Makes sense, no? :) And the salon is quite lovely. It's chi-chi without being daunting, and Luciana is marvelous. Totally booked my next appt on my way out. Best Cuts -- and now Best Color too! 8/5/2008

I love this salon! I have been a customer for several years and I always get the BEST cuts from LUCIANA. Not only is she an awesome stylist who cuts cool, but not too over the top, she's also HYSTERICAL and FUN. I have wavy hair and she's done many versions of a great shaggy, layered, easy to maintain, but hip as hell look for me through hair long and short, banged and unbanged. Recently, I was in a big hurry and my hair didn't look as Luciana-fabulous as usual. I went back to the salon and she spent an extra 20 or more minutes making sure it was perfect. And it is. more
