Don't waist your money and energy in this salon!!!!1 3/22/2008

i can't tell you about good but I can tell you about bad and ugly. I went in for a haircut and asked for a trim, but walked out with uneven and horrible cut. Waiting for my hair to grow back in tears. more

incredible highlights 2/22/2008

Best highlights I have ever had. Benjamin has done my higlights for the past two years and I had him do them for me right before my wedding. The pictures are stunning and I love my hair. I really honestly get compliments on my hair color often and I normally end up with it in a messy poney tail without doing any prep work.... so the color and cut make up for the fact that I don't have the time or the energy. Strongly recomend Pros: great Cons: often late more

Best for Blonde Highlights 2/13/2008

I have been a client of Comfort Zone for a year now. I found out about the salon from some coworkers at work (because I loved their hair!) Both of them are blondes and recommended Benjamin. I am so glad I found him! He is really an expert at blonde hair. My hair is thick and curly but he colors and styles it in a way that is flattering even when I straighten it. I only have to go every 2 months because he gets the color so close to the root. He's Bumble and Bumble certified and only uses their products which I love. I live in Murray Hill but Benjamin is worth the travel time to the UES! Pros: Great highlights, Very pleasant staff, fair price Cons: A full head of highlights takes me 3-3.5 hours more

Please do not waste your time or money. Save your hair. 2/7/2008

The layers were horrendous + the highlights were way too brassy.\r When I asked for a redo, he argued with me, saying that ""other's opinions do not matter."" Pros: n/a Cons: my baby cousin could have done a better cut job. more

The Comfort Zone Lives Up to Its Name 9/28/2007

The Comfort Zone is extraordinary. Since moving to NYC, I've generally had my hair styled in whatever neighborhood I was living in. I plan on making the trip to the Comfort Zone no matter my address. The minute you walk in the door, the entire staff makes you feel welcomed. Sarah cuts and styles my hair like nobody else in NYC. The Comfort Zone is definitely a cut above the rest. Pros: Superlative Artistry more

DANIEL FABULOUS COLOR 9/12/2007

So far, I went to Daniel at Comfort Zone Salon twice & he's consistently gentle in cutting hair with a great eye for color (which I appreciate). I've had lots of over-cut haircuts in the past & I appreciate that he's a minimalist when it comes to cutting off hair. Better to cut off less than too much & start from square one again (as I've done so many times before at so many other different places). He also threads a great pair of eyebrows! He's multi-faceted & multi-talented. His best talent in my opinion is color. He knows what to pick to correct color mishaps whether it's overbleached hair or overdarkened hair (since I also like to experiment with haircolor at home & have made plenty of mistakes) & gives the best natural looking highlights I've ever gotten. \r I love that in this salon you really don't need an appointment, you can walk in at your convenience & are always treated courteously. The salon is comfortable & stylish, and you never sit around waiting forever & feeling like you're forgotten or invisible or being stalled. I have had that experience elsewhere but never at Comfort Zone. \r Here you get a lot of quality attention & what feels like celebrity treatment (not that I am a celebrity). \r If you care about how much you spend in a salon, be sure to ask in advance what each service will cost you so you won't be shocked by the calculated total at the end of your visit if you're getting multiple services (cut, color, toner, etc).\r I recommend this place to anyone who wants quality color services & excellent treatment.\r The whole staff seems to work together well & are all pleasant to you. Again, my favorite aspect is the quality of the color products they use (I don't know what brand but the color seems to be vegetable based & a ""permanent"" color is definitely permanent while still being sheer & flattering to skintone) as well as color skill & technique. Well-skilled colorists.\r Located on 2nd Avenue at 81st St, I recommend giving Comfort Zone a try. Pros: Personable service, personal attention, skilled colorists, friendly staff, comfortable atmosphere, down to earth Cons: Costs add up, so ask what you'll be paying or come prepared with your credit card more

Great Salon on the Upper East Side 8/18/2007

At The Comfort Zone I received beautiful highlights on my dark, curly hair. My hair now looks great! It's healthy looking and very natural. The attention I received from the staff was both friendly and professional. I will now be a regular customer. The blow-out I received was gorgeous, too! I was so worried because another salon had ruined my hair in the past, but you will find just the opposite here. They will take the time to listen to your hair concerns and you will leave there with a smile. I recommend this salon to all men, women and children of all ages. They will meet your hair needs! more

two thumbs up 8/9/2007

Reccomended by a friend, I was hesitant to try a new place. However, much to my surprise, i walked out of the salon with my hair color coming out great, just what I wanted! The people were very nice, down to earth, and not snobby. The atmosphere of the salon was very welcoming and the stylist took the time not just to ensure I got exactly what I wanted but also to get to know me. Definitely coming back! more

Bait and Switch 8/2/2007

I have a hunch that the salon employees wrote the rave reviews to stir up new business. I'm not a pessimist so I'll start off with some ""Pros"". The salon was clean, the magazines were current, I didn't wait for my services, and they offered drinking water. However, they boast about using top techniques and the best products only to 'bait and switch' you for them later. For example, being a new customer, I was expecting to pay roughly the prices listed on the website but at checkout they gave me a bill twice my estimate and stated ""those other prices are based on half-service and only fit for a few people such as short hair"". \r \r They also applied toner and shampoo/conditioner after highlights as normal practice (without asking) and then charged me $50 quoting them as ""extras"". I'm not a cheap person but a salon that charges extra without consent for what usually comes with a highlight is simply classless. Oh yes, and forget about the 10% new customer discount as promised on their website. As for my highlights...they are decent but very light with no depth or natural tones. Even after all the hassling, it was amateur work for a self-proclaimed guru. more

I am in my comfort zone ... 6/22/2007

Well, I had searched high and low, paid hundreds and hundreds of dollars, and finally found my salon by recommendation from a co-worker ... Benjamin at The Comort Zone. I don't mind the 3 hours I usually spend in there because of the end result. I alternate between a half head and full head of highlights with a cut, blowdry and style. I have never walked out of there without feeling great and comfortable. I had Daniel blowdry and style my hair once and I don't think I have ever had so much male attention... I looked hot! It's competetive pricing for New York... for the attention to detail, desire to achieve natural looking highlighs (not white streaks... they use toners afterwards) and the blowdry style, I don't think you can beat it. OH and I almost forgot Mela, she gives the best shampoo/massage. My advice, try it!!! If you don't love it, it will be because of personalities and timing... not your hair. Cheers! Pros: highlights, cut and style. Cons: Nothing is perfect. more

They will make you beautiful.... 12/10/2006

The staff at ""The Comfort Zone"" are wonderful. Michael and Benjamin work miracles with your hair. They will spend a lot of time consulting customers so that they know exactly what you want. They are extremely professional and excellent stylists. Michael and Benjamin also make sure that you are happy with your new look and will do anything within reason to adjust cut and color for you. The atmosphere in the salon is comfortable and friendly. Check them out; you will not be disappointed!\r Pros: Experts with color and highlights. more

Comfort Zone saved my wedding day! 11/7/2006

The comfort zone repaired a horrible highlight job I received at a Westchester salon, 1 week before my wedding. They fit me in and not only fixed my highlights, but gave me the best highlights I have ever received. After that experience, I have switched salons to the Comfort Zone and have had several highlights and haircuts which have all been FANTASTIC!!!!! Thank you Comfort Zone! more

Great Salon! 11/3/2006

I have been here numerous times and i always walk out with an excellent color and a cut. Although the prices are a bit high, you'll find it's average compared to the prices of other salons in the area. The staff is very friendly and honest and I would recommend this salon to anyone. Cons: i once waited almost an hour past my appointment time but it was worth the wait! more

horrible place 10/17/2006

I went there to get my highlights and cut. the stylists pretented to know what he was doing, they have no idea, its sad he made my highlights very light and a cut was terrible, uneven layers it was a mess. I do not recomend this place, its a terrible salon. Pros: awfull more
