Chinatown - Lay Your Money Down! 11/16/2009

Wouldn't recommend Chinatown. Rather expensive. At first, people seem nice, then the saleswoman goes to town and puts the pressure on you to buy glasses, when all you came for was contacts. Store too crowded, all right. So many staff there, they have alot of mouths to feed. No wonder they twist your arm to get your money. more

Chinatown Optical: Look Below the Surface 11/15/2009

Pricey. Eye exam on the money. My contacts perfect for seeing, when I can wear 'em. Problem:: came away 30 hours after getting my sample pair from chinatown with an eye infection I am treating. No querstion in my mind where I got it. Don't go there. Pros: Treat you nice! Cons: Picked up infection more

BEST CHOICE for new glasses 7/29/2009

Chinatown Optical, BEST CHOICE. After all, you're not buying tube socks from the street here. If you're like me, choosing frames can be a bit awkward. You just want to find a look that works for you, maybe break-out of your past look. I've trusted the very humble staff at Chinatown Optical for 4 years. Very professional service here, including eye exam. The staff do not try to rush or push just anything on you to move to the next customer. They are genuinely interested in making you happy, something a bit unusual for the neighborhood! If you don't want $800 frames just tell them. I trusted them to select a new "look" and was very happy with what they came up with. Went back again for prescription sunglasses and they chose a pair of Ray Bans that fit and look so well, and it's a model I would not have selected myself. Their repair service is excellent, two times I was not charged for what was probably my own fault. My advise: let loose and let them make a recommendation for you. Someti more

Horrible customer services (if any)...TWICE 6/15/2009

First time I went in was for my sister who already had a particular frame (brand and model) in mind. We were serviced by an old guy. When my sis gave him the brand, he said - without looking at us, just busy wiping stuff - ""we don't sell brands like those"". My sis and I were confused and she pressed on as to why (quality, reputation, etc.) He just refused to answer. We assumed he was the owner or store manager because with service like that he would've been fired. Well I thought it was just an unlucky day that we got the guy helping us out. I went in again weeks later this time looking for a frame that I wanted. A young woman helped me out this time. I told her the brand and model and she pointed to a display of about 10 frames behind the counter and asked me what the model looked like. I wasn't able to tell because I didn't have my glasses on and I pointed to one frame towards the bottom and she said ""that's not the brand you are looking for, only these"" and she pointed to the four or so frames towards the top. Holy bejeezus! It would've been so much faster if she would just look at the model#. Then I recognized the frames and tried them on but they were the bigger size and quite pricey so I asked if she had any other ones that were the same eyeshape but maybe a little smaller and less pricey. She said ""well all our plastic frames are here (pointing to the counter right below us) you can take a look"". No kidding! I'd give them 0 stars if I could. I recommend Eye Solutions just across the street. Pros: Nice display Cons: Nice display fools you (or just me) more

Eye love them 7/9/2008

I've been coming to Chinatown optical since I was 13 (that's been more than a decade now) and I've had nothing but the most courteous service and best quality. They have pretty decent prices and always remind you of rebates and discounts. They're also very flexible and easy to work with. I had an eye infection once, and they gave me immediate attention free of charge, even with a prescription. I definitely recommend them for contacts and glasses. more

Wouldn't recommend 6/7/2008

I wouldn't come here again. I caught the lady behind the desk talking about me telling the guy not to show me expensive frames. This is after I already put an order in for $400 contacts and wanted to get additional frame. She doesn't even know that I make triple times her salary and is probably just judging me by the way looked that day. The female staff is very bitchy. Store is waaay too crowded where you cannot even peruse with comfort. I would not come here again. I recommend Mott St. Optical at 52 Mott St, just up the block. Friendly, no hassle and same prices as Chinatown Optical. more

very nice store 8/9/2005

you can see from the street that this eyeglass shop is ritzy. the store is gorgeous, with creative displays in the windows of their best designer frames, it is also very bright in the store. though prices here can be expensive. i got my pair here for about 350 dollars. though the price does depend on what pair of frames you choose. my friend got a pair for around 140 dollars. though maybe times have changed and prices have dropped for thinned out lenses. people are nice, and i think they have free eye exams. more
