Wine & Chocolate Never Tasted So Good 5/20/2012

What’s better than wine and chocolate? If you go here, nothing at all. This place has a great variety of both. I was turned onto this place by a friend and the way they went on about the place, I figured they were exaggerating. Turns out, they were spot on – in fact I think he left out a few things – such as how this place has an extremely friendly wait staff, the décor is inviting and the place never gets so loud that you can’t carry on a normal conversation. I could order a different combination every time I’m in here and never tire of it. Now I just want to bring all my other friends here. more

No better wine bar in NYC 3/28/2012

No better wine bar in NYC, and I have tried many. This place knows their stuff and doesn't have the pretentious feel you would expect from guys that know this much about wine. The setting is great, they offer a small menu of tasty food. If you go in and have no clue what you like or know exactly what you are looking for, this is the place to go. ?If you have room for dessert, try the twenty layer crepe cake--amazing! Wines seem to range on average from $9-$18. more

Never again! 2/22/2012

Important points: - Good food - Good waitstaff - Only one bathroom for the entire restaurant. Seriously? - Terrible manager named Lea. Treated our party of 13 as if we were unimportant, especially after a worker removed a weight that was on the base of one of the 6ft tall heat lamps. Within a couple of minutes, the lamp fell forward onto our table. The lamp cover & heating tubes shattered, as well as the glassware/plates that were on the table. Pieces of glass flew everywhere and sparks shot from the lamp, burning a member of our party on her face, neck, hand and back. I picked a piece of glass out of the back of her shirt where she had been burned by it. It had fused to her shirt from the heat. The manager was slow to respond to our needs and did not express remorse or sympathy for the lady who had been burned. She was more focused on repeating that the insurance company would be calling the victim the next day. Later on she stated in a curt tone, and I quote "I've removed the wine from your bill, which is $300", still expecting us to stay and continue eating inside the restaurant. By this time, we were so disgusted with her attitude that all we wanted to do was leave. She argued with the head of our group over the bill and after half an hour of arguing said "Fine, if that's what you want to do, do that." Not once did she apologize to anyone in our group, least of all to the member of our party that was burned by their equipment. Never again will any of us come to this establishment. The manager's actions last night have tainted this place for all of us. more

Funky Wine Bar That Knows Quality 2/18/2012

There’s nothing better than a really great wine at the end of a long day at the office. This funky bar with their extravagant chandeliers is just the place. It’s not too loud so I can actually carry on a conversation with people, too. They also have a great selection of truffles which I’ve brought a number of clients to when I’m looking to impress them. They’re not the cheapest in town but they’re worth the money. more

Amazing... 1/29/2012

I’ve definitely been to better places in the city, but this bar is pretty nice. Decent wine selection and lots of food to choose from. We got a meze tasting platter with the shrimp dumplings, artichoke hearts, and the brie croutons. This is very light fare; don’t come here on an empty stomach. more

One of My Favorite Spots 1/1/2012

Looking for a good time on a friday night?? AYZA is definitely the spot to be. Randomly stopped by the lounge looking for a good time with a couple friends.. and turned into one of those unforgettable nights. Beauitful ladies.. Well dressed and well mannered crowd. Not to mention the hostess who took care of me and my entourage.. Slowly but surely becoming one of my favorite spots. more

NICE 11/13/2011

The AYZA is one of my favorite bars, and is probably one of the best kept secrets in Hells Kitchen. They make the drinks strong and they make them well, with super friendly staff, an excellent and eclectic musical selection, and a timeless but hip ambiance. I'm not much of a drinker, but when I want to have a little sip, this is one of my top choices more

GOOD SANGRIA 11/2/2011

The spot is very nice whether going with one other person or a small group. The staff was friendly. I ordered a salad with goat cheese which was pretty good! My cousin ordered a panini which was very GOOD. But we LOVED the sangria, they gave us a complimentary sample and had to order a glass each because it was so good. This is also a nice spot if on a date !! more

Editorial
  • With a menu that's as worldly as the 90-plus wine list, there's something for everyone at Ayza--well, everyone except that really hungry guy, since all the dishes are rather petite. Francophiles will be pleased with indulgent offerings like creme fraiche with caviar and chicken paillard, but it's the cheese plates that aren't to be missed. The herb goat cheese and cave aged gruyere with honey and pear is a sumptuous mix of savory, sweet and fresh; were it not for the thimble-sized portion, it would quell any craving. High ceilings, a wall of wine bottles and rich red hues create the illusion of coziness despite the stark, modern details. The display of Jacques Torres truffles doesn't hurt, either.

Hits: The prices are affordable, especially for high-end, presentation-focused cheeses and choice wines.

Misses: Although Ayza is located between Koreatown and the Garment District, the attitude of the staff seems more suited to Soho.
