Best

The interior is not especially fancy, but the food is always good. The specials are tasty, and I like to get the steamed veggies of the day with the brown rice gravy. Love the app...

Worst

For vegan restaurant food, it's not bad. It can be a bit bland and crumbly ... but, hey, that's vegan food for you. The reason I don't come here more often is the general ambience...

Good vegetarian option 3/19/2006

This restaurant is a good choice for vegans and vegetarians, and although I am neither and enjoy the food, it may be difficult for those not used to eating this way to enjoy. Certainly everyone should try their wonderfully fresh fruit juices though. The ambiance is nice for a neighborhood restaurant, but is nothing spectacular. more

Worthy of more than 1 star, maybe 2.5 9/20/2005

I've been to Anjelica's off and on over the past few years, and while I've never been wowed as some people seem to be, I don't believe it deserves a poor rating. At best it can be thoughtful health-conscious cooking, but at its worst it can be uninspired and tasteless. I've had both at Anjelica's and it has tended to be somewhat inconsistent. If you're going expecting something exemplary I do think you will be disappointed. If you're going looking for a solid, healthy veg alternative you probably won't be. Service also tends to be somewhat unpredictable, but overall I do think people looking for veg cuisine could do worse (and maybe better). more

Top 10 vege restaurant in NYC 8/17/2005

Every time I eat at Angelica's I feel like a million bucks after. The food, service, and atmosphere is great. It's my staple restaurant to bring "out of towners" because it's cool enough for my punk friends, but it's not too freakish for the more conservative. Also, the communal table is a great idea for when you want to go for lunch or dinner on your own. This is my favorite restaurant in NYC, and I am a very picky eater. I have taken my non-vegetarian friends there many times and they all asked to go back. That says a lot! You must try Angelica's Kitchen! Oh, and they only take cash, so run to the ATM before dining there. more

Didn't live up to the hype 8/14/2005

People rave about this place, but the food was only decent and the ambience was horrible. On a blistering New York City evening (over 90 degrees even after sunset) they had the doors closed and the fans off, resulting in a sauna environment that hardly encouraged healthy appetites. The lemonade was warm, the seitan enchilada slimy. The staff was flaky and inattentive. Overall, I'd recommend it only if you're a strict vegan and haven't scouted out other decent places in the city. more
