Attending Parsons' Fashion Studies AAS program was a major disappointment. There are so many incompetent teachers and lazy, untalented students- I think they except everyone that applies, and then spend all the tuition money on new buildings for The New School, rather than good teachers and adequate work spaces. I wish I had researched reviews for this school prior to dropping my hard-earned savings, but I thought it was recognized as the best school for fashion in New York and went based on that. Go to London- Royal or St. Martin's- those are really worth it. more

I graduated from the AAS in Fashion Design Program. You are really paying only for the name and I wouldn't recommend this program. I was not impressed with the faculty and the administration/bureacracy was the worst I have thus far encountered. I expected more for the steep price tag. more

i am a high school senior and have been obsessing with going to parsons for 2 years. i think i am going, but i am trying to find ways to pay for it. i am ready to sacrifice anything for this school and i truly want to be there. i am middle-class so i dont really qualify for financle aid but i am not rich enough to pay for it neither are my parents. what should i do? i really really really dont want to compromise this education. i want this so bad i am willing to eat bread and water for the next 4 years to cut costs. I have never wanted anything so bad in my life - it hurts. even the gut-wrenching thought of not being able to attend parsons because i cant afford it tears my heart in half. and i havent even been accepted yet....this is how maniac i am about parsons. please - if any one is middle class and some how financed this school - tell me how u did it. i would be soooo grateful! more

Good school, better name recognition. I’m sort of undecided on how I want to rate this school. I’ve graduated from the photography & communication design department and am wondering if I really was taught anything. Ok, I guess I did learn stuff but was it really worth the price of admission? This is a very, very expensive school. Tuition alone can be overwhelming, and then figure in the costs of materials used for classes. I think you’d bankrupt your parents. The professors are decent, the facilities are rubbish. For the price of tuition you’d expect some up to date facilities or even enough chairs and tables for the students. The department chairman’ are snobby, as most of the students. But that’s something you’ll just have to suck up. The school is overrated, period. Don’t waste your money here when you can easily get the same or better education at a community college. In the end, this is a great name to have on your resume, but not a great place to be for 4 years. more

This is the Ivy League for Arts in New York City. There's other art and fashion schools in New York City, but none of them compare to this one. They have a great reputation and people who graduate from there get high paying jobs. Parsons to Art schools is like MIT to engineering schools. Some might argue that this statement is exaggerating, but the people I've known who come out of there really do find excellent jobs. Anyone interested in art or fashion should consider applying to this school. more

I completed the 2-year AAS Program in Graphic Design at Parsons. The program was solid, with a staff made up of professionals who teach part time as well as work in the field, most of whom have been educated at extremely reputable institutions such as RISD and Yale. The program was very diverse -- my fellow students came from all over the world -- and offered a well rounded crash course in Graphic Design. Cons: The program is expensive, and the campus resources are limited. For a program that prides itself on being able to spit you out armed and ready to work in just 2 years, there was perhaps an overemphasis on conceptualization (which would have been more appropriate in a more drawn-out 4-year program) at the expense of practical application. Bottom line, the program is what you make of it. The tools are there to have a great experience, but you have to work (and pay through the nose) for it. more

When I found out that I was accepted at this school I was ecstatic!! It is somewhat difficult to get accepted and you have to go through a long process of showing your portfolio and art work. I went here for a year and ended up going into the work force. My time spent here was well spent. The school is downtown in a great neighborhood. The professors were exellent. I went for photography and the resources were great such as the darkroom and camera rentals - although VERY pricey for us poor college students :) Although this is a very rigid school I would recommend it for any art loving person. more
