I'd go back 5/3/2009

I took my wife here for her birthday after a night out in the city. We checked in pretty late and went to our room to drop of our things and then headed straight to the upstairs lounge. The atmosphere was great, the place beautiful. We had a couple of drinks and then had enough of the crowd so we headed up to our room. The room was decorated beautifully, clean and simple. The bathroom was spa like and roomy. We slept great and checked out the next morning. A bit pricey, but it is the city, so all in all a great experience. Pros: inhouse lounge, decor Cons: crowd more

Great if you're young and beautiful, otherwise .... 11/1/2007

My wife and I stayed here -- I like boutique hotels in NYC. I liked the modern look of the rooms; my wife found them a bit austere. My real complaint is that I wanted to get a drink at the bar at the top of the hotel. My wife and I went there at 8 PM to find a private party that was over at 10. Fair enough. So we go back at ten, the place is still hopping. We were turned away as decidedly unhip. Pros: Great location, beautfiul interiors, generally nice staff Cons: Don't expect to see the rooftop bar. more

Find someplace else 10/10/2005

This Hotel tries desperately to be something it will never be. Lets start with the outdated staff. I was not able to get a single answer from anyone. Apparently there is only one person in the entire buliding that has answers to the goings on at 60 Thompson. I stayed at this place for a get away based on some of the reviews. I was informed...without much prying..by the front desk staff that the positive reviews have been posted by the STAFF!!! (SURPRISE!) this is the oldest trick in the book..and I unfortunately fell for it. No one seems to care about the guests and the concierge never knows what's going on. The managers are cluless and the 'secret answer person'..one who can tell you where to have a good dinner even....is never around. Shame on you 60 T, what a waste of a beautiful space. more

Very Good 10/9/2005

Just got back from a weekend stay at 60 Thompson. I booked a King Suite for my girlfriend and I as I was I going to propose that night. We showed up at the hotel at around 1:00 but unfortunatley our room wasn't ready as check in is at 3:00. We returned to the hotel around 3:30 but the room wasn't ready yet but they offered us some cocktails on the house while we wait. Once the suite was ready we were blown away. VERY clean and the smell of fresh flowers consumed the room. The manager brought up a bottle of wine and knocked $100 off the room to make amends. Overall I think the hotel made a very comfortable stay. I feel they went out of their way to make things right and we left very happy. Pros: Decor, Location, Romantic more

Outdated reviews? 5/29/2005

We just came back from a Memorial Day weekend in NYC, and we had a great time at this hotel. The service was excellent and very prompt, and the staff was friendly. As for the other reviews posted, we had no problems with noise (the toilets are industrial, so they are pretty loud, but we did not have any problems with that), and the doorman was able to get us a cab very quickly. SoHo is great, and the subway is just a few blocks from the hotel. Bathrooms were really nice - Fresh products, Frette robes. But I have to agree with another reviewer - the towels were what you would get at a much cheaper hotel! Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to go back, as long as we get the great deal that we got using an online consolidator! Pros: Excellent service, SoHo look and feel Cons: Pricey more

What a joke 11/18/2003

Staying at 60 Thompson is a great example of paying for pure hype. Our room looked like some set designer's idea of what a hip Soho hotel room looks like. The crowd at the bar (on a Sat night) was pure bridge and tunnel. And to top it off, our room on a freezing night in March had no heat. Half a dozen calls to the concierge yielded one threadbare extra blanket (when we asked for a good blanket like the one on the bed, the bellboy sniffed at us, ""We don't have any extras of those!"" Seriously!). We checked out, still freezing, at 1:00 am and they actually had the nerve to charge our credit card. Stay anywhere else. Pros: good bath products Cons: nonexistent service more

Secret Surprise 11/5/2003

I recently stayed at the Thompson hotel and was surprised to find the most courteous staff anywhere in NYC. I usually stay in midtown manhattan and always found the hotels there stuffy and staff rude. The Concierge team at 60 Thompson is phenomenal. One of the concierges went out of her way to help me get engaged. She found the most unusual location and it played out like a symphony. Dinner suggestions were great. The neighbourhood feels as though you are in some European country. Highly recommended. I will be back. Pros: great restaurant, Great staff, location Cons: expensive, noisy at times more

Disappointing 10/6/2003

we recently stayed there and were very disappointed with the service. things we ordered never came (bathrobes etc) and the two concierges were by far the worst i have seen in a new york hotel. They treated us with arrogance and seemed to feel special to work in the place, though they never managed to get us the tables we wanted. AC did not work either as the hotel can only do heat or ac not both at the same time. Completely overrated, we wont stay there again. Pros: good location, cool design, cool people Cons: slow service, arrogant staff, overpriced more

*Some* Style, NO Substance 5/20/2003

Truly overrated and I'd never stay there again. I immediately cancelled the rest of my reservation after one night and moved to another hotel. We waited 2 hours for our food at Thom - it was breakfast and we were the ONLY table in the place, so I have no idea what could have been the hold up. I keep reading about how fantastic this place is but I have to wonder who's placing all this stuff in the press because it is about as far from our experience as you could get. Cons: Pricey, Awful Service, Unhelpful Management more

Not Hip, Awful Service 5/20/2003

Our room was not ready until 2 and a half hours after check in, which at $405 a night is a bit rich. We were offered no alternate room in which to get ready or relax and there was no adjustment to our bill. Also, despite rather agreeable weather, the roof deck, which is a main draw, was closed. Service was poor. especially in the restaurant. Rooms nice, but chintsy on certain things like towels. The place will be out of business in a year unless they make some changes. Don't waste your time no matter how many celebs are supposed to have stayed at 60 Thompson. Pros: Location Cons: Bad Service, Boring, Expensive more

January Stay 2/24/2003

Having just made a personal stay over a late January weekend, I was a bit disappointed. At the price of this hotel, I had expected more amenities, and more features of the high caliber NY hotels. The worst parts were extremely noisy neighbors in the middle of the night and smoke from the crowded evening lounge perforating into the room airducts. Also, it's location makes quickly securing a cab difficult. Nice that it's in SoHo, but I am not sure I'd come back. Pros: SoHo & Tribeca area Cons: Smoky more

Incredible Service 1/22/2003

I have stayed at virtually every boutique hotel in Manhattan, and I've got to tell you, 60 Thompson truly lived up to my expectations, and then some. The rooms are quiet (very unusual!) and the concierge was friendly, personable, and went out of their way. Only negative is the lobby does get a smokey- the bar gets way too crowded. Other than that, it was a wonderful experience. Location couldn't be better either! Pros: Service, Trendy, Decor more

helloo NOT cool 1/8/2003

wanting to stay at a trendy hotel, i was willing at first to spend the outragous amount of money charged. until i saw the rooms, which are nothing short of UN-Spactacular, and the service is terrrrible. the only thing that i did enjoy was the delicous food in the restaruant. NOT recoodmended. Pros: good food, cute neighborhood Cons: bad bad service, yucky rooms more

ok 1/2/2003

ok. Its trendy, its cool, drew barrymore stayed in the room next to me. BUT the rooms and lobby are drab. the rooms are small and not as plush as they should be for the price you pay which is outrageous. There are many other boutiques I would prefer to stay in over this one again. service is excellent at the hotel though as is the food. more

Sorry but No 12/10/2002

Seemed like the only answer we got on our first weekend in the city (we prefered our second hotel, the Muse last week). Rooms were OK, staff a tad vague and every time we needed something a little out of someone range - the answer was no. more

TOP NOTCH 12/3/2002

Got Engaged here! The staff knew about the engagement and we extremely helpful with my plans. Made my fiance feel like a queen. Great atmosphere for people with some MOJO. Lots of hotties. check it out. Pros: great atmosphere chic Cons: small but cool rooms more

Quiet but chic hotel 11/28/2002

This hotel is chic and happening on the weekends, but the rooms are very quiet and are minimalist serene. more

Best in City 9/21/2002

Great hotel! Best service, cool bar, great rooftop, staff were helpful and friendly. Food was superb and rooms were largest of any boutique hotel in the Big Apple! Can't wait to come back again! more
