Best

Wonjo is one of my best lunch depot because they have the least amount of MSG in their food. I have MSG allergy so this is very critical. And still the their dishes taste great....

Worst

Besides their unique wood grilled kalbi or bulgoki (bbq) I'm not too fond of their traditional Korean dishes. I've made some attempts during lunch for their prix fixe. Hwe do bo...

Fast Food Korean BBQ - Great Food - Rushed Service and Poor Waitress Staff 12/27/2006

Fast Food Korean BBQ. Don't get me wrong the food here is great, but the service is terrible. I have never felt so rushed at a restaurant in my entire life. We sat down and before we even opened our menu one waitress came to take our order, then a second waitress nearly a second later asked for our order. Our food came immediately as usual it was delicous. However the waitresses constantly came over and took plates away that were not even done with, there was still food on them. When it came time for the check, they came to take it three times, even when we were still putting our money together. We did not eat slowly, we ate at a normal pace but they want you in and out in five minutes. If you want good Korean BBQ and can handle being mistreated, rushed and losing some of the food on your plate that Won Jo is the place for you. Pros: Great Food Cons: Service is amongst the worse, Rush you through dinner more

good korean food, sometimes non koreans act silly 11/12/2006

I am Korean American, eat at Wonjo all the time. The restaurant is as good as any of the other ones on 32nd Street. I have a hard time believing that some diners were ""bullied"" or treated badly absolutely un provoked. I would have to guess that there were some misunderstandings or something. I have plenty of friends that are not korean that eat here and love it. For a standard korean food experience, no better or worse than any other, I would recommend wonjo, and would not be too concerned about being bullied per se. more

The Worst Dining Experience of My Life 6/15/2006

Save yourself from this awful place! I went to this restaurant for a going away party for a dear friend of mine. We were a party of five. The waitress literally bullied us into ordering immediately. When we were halfway through the meal, they began clearing plates without asking us when the plates still had food on them. We were in shock. I asked to see the manager and explained to him that this was poor form and that we were not finished. Hovering over me, he explained that this was his restaurant, that other people were waiting, and we needed to get out now. We quickly paid, of course leaving no tip. The waitress saw this and began berating us in front of the other customers. My wife went to the front cashier to ask for the manager's name. The manager saw this and came running over and physically intimidated her. I stepped in and asked him to back away. He and two waiters then literally pushed me out the front door cursing me! I'm still deciding whether to bring criminal charges for assault. For the love of God, please don't support this awful business. There are so many other good Korean restaurants in this neighborhood. I am in a state of disbelief over this incredibly negative experience. Cons: The management assaulted me more

Great Banchan 24 Hours A Day 5/15/2005

Won Jo's extensive menu features a myriad of both Korean and Japanese dishes served 24 hours a day. The banchan is probably the best in the entire city and worth a visit by itself. Soups and stews are done especially well here as are the long list of noodle dishes. Each table is barbeque capable if you have an inkling for meat. Avoid the sushi and sashimi as Won Jo is a Korean restaurant first and foremost. There are many 24 hour choices on 32nd street past 2am but you can't go wrong with a visit to Won Jo. Pros: banchan, barbeque, soups/stews Cons: sushi/sashimi more

It's a fake taste!!! 4/10/2005

I went to most of the Korean restaurants in this area but WONJO happened to be the worst Korean restaurant I've ever been. I ordered Tempura dinner and it wasn't even crunch, instead it was saggie.. My other dish supposed comed with soup, but I had to ask waiters more than 4 times to get it for me. When they brought it to me, it wasn't the one that usually comes with the dish. I had to send it back..... Since I wasn't sure Tempura comes w/ rice, I told the owner that we didn't get the rice when we were about tos leave, he didn't even appolize about it, instead he bitter smiled at me. Pretty much saying ""I don't need your business, so whatever you say.. and hurry and leave"" kind of attitude. I will never ever go back to that place again nor recommend to anybody! more

Tasty authentic Korean food 1/17/2003

Not the most beautiful environment, but the food is consistently delicious and the barbeque is fun and tasty. more

Forced to eat and run... 1/7/2003

I recently met a friend at Won Jo to catch up. We had the most miserable dining experience! The wait staff rushed us through our meal, took away our food before we were finished (even though we told them we were still eating) and then, as we were lingering over the bill, asked us to leave. We were there less than an hour and there were other tables available (and no one waiting to be seated until moments before they asked us to leave). I have never had such an unpleasant experience. If you want a leisurely meal, try one of the many other Korean places on 32nd street. Cons: Rude, rushed service more

Best BBQ in Town 8/22/2002

The barbecued beef is delicious, as is the pork. I love Korean food and this place has some of the best BBQ around. And you can grill it at your table!! Pros: Great BBQ, Grill at table more

Not of my fave ... 7/16/2002

Besides their unique wood grilled kalbi or bulgoki (bbq) I'm not too fond of their traditional Korean dishes. I've made some attempts during lunch for their prix fixe. Hwe do bop and nambeong were disappointing. I'd recommend Won Jo strictly for BBQ. If you want tastier Korean dishes head over to Dae Dong, Woo Chon, Hangawi, Kori and Togi. During lunch some of the Korean grocery shops had pre-made bento boxes, mandoo dumplings and bibimbop/ spicy noodle dishes for under $6. Which is handy if you don't want to blow your wallet on Korean restaurant can be pricy. Just take the pre-made bento and hike to A&S top floor food court to eat. more
