I have been looking all over Manhattan for someone who specializes in Balayage. Tried many upscale Salons and Sarah is the best hands down!

guys should think twice before they go there and spend $50-60 for an uneven, sloppy trim. i went there based on the high rating on citysearch and was so disappointed. very nice ...

I recently got my hair highlighted by Brittany. I am always nervous getting my hair done by someone else since I have been getting my hair highlighted by the same person since I was 14. There was nothing to be nervous about though! Brittany was FANTASTIC! She listened to me when I said I wanted to go blonder for the summer, and my hair came out GREAT! The salon was very nice and clean, and everyone here is so friendly! Definitely going back to Brittany every time I need my hair highlighted! more

I never write reviews, but this time I felt i should mention Brittany. I've been searching for a great colorist and stylist for awhile. I go to these salons and just feel like another customer sitting in their chair. Varin has been a different story though, Brittany has been awesome. Her coloring skills are fantastic and the past two months people keep complimenting me on my hair and color. I don't look washed out anymore. My hair has felt a lot healthier too, it doesn't feel dry or anything. My boyfriend has even talks about how soft my hair is. Total plus! If there is anyone looking for a new salon... go to Varin and definitely schedule with Brittany. Actually, switch and try this place because I think you'll be so pleased. My experience has been awesome and I feel like I've found my go-to salon and stylist! more

I have been going to Aurora at Varin since 2008. I moved to Boston in 2009 and Miami in 2012 but continue to only get my hair cut when I am in NYC by Aurora because she does such a great job. Everyone at the salon is incredibly friendly and nice. I highly recommend it, it's worth traveling thousands of miles for! more

I have basically followed Lauren around for the past 4 years because she just gives me a great haircut. I have pretty thick hair and I like a long layered look but I also need my hair thinned out and Lauren always manages to do it just the right way and my haircut looks great and I always get compliments. Everyone at the salon is very friendly and it's always been a great experience. more

Ricardo's Keratin Treatment 4/3/2012

Ricardo is like a sculptor as he works each strand through the keratin treatment process. The first two times he used the flatiron in the usual way. This time, I wanted to keep some waves -- without frizz. He used curling irons instead of the flat iron. Unbelievable. The hair I've already wanted! more

Absolutely LOVE this salon and Lauren for giving me the best cut and style, time and time again!!! My hair looks amazing... THANK YOU!! FINALLY i have found a consistently great stylist: Lauren at Varin Salon has never failed to make my hair look absolutely GORGEOUS! In the past, my hair has been a challenge for stylists because its thick and unruly. I have had more than my fair share of rush cuts/blow-outs to keep on schedule, which is very disappointing after you shell out top dollar for a cut and expect to come out looking like a million bucks. Lauren always makes me feel comfortable and takes the time to make my hair absolutely perfect. I honestly have never had a bad cut from her, and I have changed the length and style of my hair numerous times. I even tried, and was pleasantly surprised by, chunky bangs - a style I haven't rocked since I was a toddler. She has a great eye and somehow manages to incorporate my ""vision of the month"" into something that compliments my bone structure, hair type and personality. So glad I found this girl...! I really can't recommend this salon and Lauren enough. My hair looks great the day after I get it cut, no waiting 2 weeks for the ""shock"" of the cut to quell. Everyone at Varin is warm and pleasant, the environment is calm and beautiful, and last time I was there the shampoo girl (a total sweetheart) gave me an amazing head massage! I was almost lulled to sleep as she was doing her shampooing thing. Its little details like that that make for a wonderful, come-back-again experience. A+ sylist and salon. Thanks again, Lauren... My hair is looking beautiful these days!!! ps. I feel like this sounds like an ad or something, but just look at all of the other reviews giving the same 5 stars. They validate the authenticity of mine. This place is awesome. I'm writing it b/c this place and stylist deserve it. more

I love the varin salon! 2/11/2012

For the last 10 years I have be going to the Varin Salon They are simply the best in the city. For color, blows & cuts. I wouldn't go anywhere else . Judy does my blowouts & Teresa my color. Totally professional & classy. I also must mention the amazing shampoos & neck massages. I have sent so many of my friends here & they also have had a great experience. more

Yann Varin and team are terrific! 1/18/2012

I must say that my experience at the Yann Varin Salon was exquisite; like sipping a glass of fine wine. The atmosphere is soothing, the staff is friendly and there is a high level of expertise applied to all aspects of interaction. Yann is a gentleman and a genius. You will walk out refreshed and looking beautiful. Time at a salon should be like it is here . . . make this your place. more

Skeptic and now a TOTAL FAN!! 7/15/2011

I tried many salons in the past and a few in this particular area. I've gone into salons and dished out upwards of $400 and have left feeling ehh, not horrified but not thrilled in the least. Long story short, a salon i was going to recently closed down. I needed a root touch up bad and didn't know where to go. I decided i want the balayage highlights because it's lower maintenance so i did a search online and came across this salon. There weren't many reviews and i knew it would be pricey so i was EXTREMELY skeptical but decided to make an appt for a consultation just to see how it would go. more

I live in Florida and on my bi-yearly trips to NYC to visit family I always make it a priority to see Yann. He understands my hair type and always gives me a great cut. I have tried numerous "high-end" salons in Florida and nothing has compared to the results I get at Yann's salon. more

Best cut I have ever had. Yann knows how to cut to suit my ""challenging"" hair. He listens and takes the time to understand a client's needs and to modify when necessary. Each cut is individualized and not what magazines show as the cut of the moment Extraordinarily talented and experienced. The same goes for coloring with Theresa. Best haircut I've ever had. 4/5/2010

I've been to the top name salons in the city including Garren, and John Barrett. I like Yann Varin the best. He sees what's good for your face and your life style. The salon is small but very friendly with none of the loud blaring music that makes getting a haircut stressful rather than peaceful. I've had great luck with their colorists, too. In spite of how great they are I've never had to wait weeks to get an appointment. And, since I live on East 74th Street they're right in my neighborhood... I can walk there. And surprise! You don't have to pay the Gross National Product of Costa Rica for a great color and cut! Pros: Yann is an absolutely superb stylist. Cons: I can't think of a thing. more

Fabulous and VERY reasonably priced 2/19/2010

This place is great--the stylists are always wonderful, professional and sweet. I recently had my hair cut by Lauren and she did an amazing job with my very thick, very unruly curly hair, giving me a wonderful pixie cut. You definitely get a great cut, fabulous service and at very reasonable prices (for NYC, of course). Pros: Great stylists, relaxed atmosphere Cons: Not a single one more

I whole heartedly recommend this salon to anyone looking for great hair services. Both locations (just a few blocks from each other???) are just as good. My most recent appointment was with Sarah for roots and Amy for my haircut on 2nd Avenue. Those skilled technicians have pulled it off once again! I owe my good locks to those girls :) Pros: service, down to earth more

Besides giving me the best haircut in the city, Yann Varin's laidback atmosphere makes me feel at ease. Yann makes you feel like you will be well taken care of and then he makes sure not to dissapoint.
