Rude and very unprofessional attitude 10/3/2011

Receiptionist - Laura is extremely rude, ill-manared unprofessional and lacks training! Just because of her I'll not be back to this place. more

RUN DON'T WALK! 8/26/2009

MY ADVICE IS IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR HEALTHY FEMALE ORGANS, DO NOT UNDERGO ANY TYPE OF SURGERY WITH MILKA TORBARINA. FROM MY EXPERIENCE, SHE WILL NOT NOT LISTEN TO YOU, EVEN WHEN YOU'VE MADE YOURSELF PERFECTLY CLEAR. SHE WILL DO WHAT SHE WANTS AND THAT MAY BE REMOVING YOUR HEALTHY ORGANS UNNECESSARILY. I'M CONVINCED IT'S SO SHE WILL GET PAID MORE MONEY. TO ME SHE WAS A VERY SCARY PERSON, AND IN MY OPINION, SHE SHOULD NOT BE PRACTICING MEDICINE. PS-- IF YOU DO SEE HER, DO NOT SIGN THE ARBITRATION AGREEMENT. Pros: WORST DOCTOR I EVER MET more

Good location, ok experience 2/17/2009

I read that the staff was rude before going and since this is NYC it didn't phase me. The lady on the phone was definitely pretty rude. I was nice to her, but she was saucy to me and probably needs to find a different line of work. Pros: Good Nurse who follows up with patients Cons: Office staff/experience can get a little wacky more

Good doctor 12/21/2008

After reading a few reviews I decided to write one of my own, since I have been a patient of Dr. Torbarina for a few years. The truth is.. the office is small, but okay - the staff : the receptionist can be rude at times, she seems overwhelmed; the doctor's assistant is very friendly to me.. the doctor herself can seem a bit rude, but it's her personality to be frank about things.. I actually like her attitude. On my first visit she and I sat and spoke in her office for at least 10 mintues addressing my concerns (my previous doctor was a mute), so needless to say I was happy with a doctor who gives it to me straight. more

Wost Gyno Ever! 6/17/2008

I need to find another gyno asap. I gave them three chances, and all three times have been terrible. Her staff is so rude and never helpful. Same goes for the doctor. She doesn't explain anything and when you ask her a question, she makes you feel stupid you even asked that question. more

look elsewhere for healthcare 5/29/2008

Dr. Torbarina is liste as ""Milka Torbarina"" on my insurance website, so unfortunately I was not able to find her in google initially. I wish I had searched harder and found these review before going to her office. My appointment did not start on time, like everyone else here. I waited for more than 2 hours after my start time. Her staff started discussing another patient's test results loudly enough so that everyone in the office could hear. Both Dr torbarina and her office seem disorganized. I don't feel that Dr. torbarina adequately discussed my health concerns. Since I waited for more than 2 hours, I hoped for a conversation that was longer than 2 minutes. There are tons of poster advertising various cosmetics procedures and hair removal in her office. Dr Torbarina probably does these because not enough patients are willing to visit her office and pay for for her poor medical skills. Pros: easy to make an appointment Cons: long wait time, unprofessional staff, unresponsive doctor more

bad doctor 11/27/2007

not on time, doctor is weird, staff rude, lost exam results, lost prescriptions, dirty office, insurance paperwork not sent properly, not good at doing tests asked for, don't go Pros: nothing Cons: everything more

avoid like a bad infection 11/18/2007

My experience was similar to most of the negative reviewers below. Dr. Torbarina was more than an hour late for my appoitnment. I had originally selected her office because it was close to my work, but I more than made up for any transit time I saved by the long wait in her office. Her receptionist was eating her greasy fried chicken lunch at her desk and listening to music through headphones when I was checked in. The receptionist was incredibly rude to another woman that had not received her insurance card in the mail. Dr. Torbarina was rather brusque and rude at my consultation. Her office was extremly dirty and had papers thrown all over the place. I almost left because I didn't want my exam in such a dirty place. I also experienced difficulty in getting my results and other documents. more

Not recommended 10/2/2007

I agree with other reviews. She may be fine with routine exams, but if you have a problem, even minor, she is not very helpful in explaining what is going on to you, which makes an already nerve-wracking experience unnecessarily worse. In my case, she just handed me a pamphlet when I asked questions and could not satisfactorily answer what should have been simple questions. She also does not seem very compassionate, i.e. understanding that although she sees these kinds of things every day, this is the first time you've dealt with it. more

More misses than hits 9/26/2007

I had few options in choosing a doctor due to my insurance plan. The first time I went, I waited over an hour and found the office unprofessional in many minor respects. I liked that the doctor did a consultation ahead of time. She seemed competent during the exam. I ended up needing immediate follow-up with extensive tests. I decided to give the benefit of the doubt and forge ahead. During subsequent visits I again waited over an hour and spent up to two hours at the office having to call work and explain why I was so late. The receptionist is mostly rude and overall the office appears extremely disorganized. Pros: Appts scheduled in the near future, down to earth attitude Cons: Wait time in office extremely long, rude staff, querky behavior more

Unknowledgeable Dr. with a rude, unprofessional office 9/18/2007

The first time I went to Dr. Torbarina I liked her despite her rude staff and the fact that I waited for over an hour. However, when I went back in with a minor problem she was completely unhelpful, didn't seem to know what she was talking about, told me to look it up online, and then prescribed me antibiotics which I did not need. Each time I tried to call back for my lab results I was put on hold and no one ever picked up. I definitely would not recommend her, and will not be seeing her again. Pros: If you're 100% healthy she's ok Cons: everything else more

Not bad at all, just average 7/10/2007

Reading the previous reviews, I was anxious about my upcoming appointment. As office decor goes, it was regular; small and sterile. Pros: Quick, down-to-earth doc Cons: Mildy unfriendly receptionist more

Terrible Staff 4/23/2007

I would have to agree with a number of reviews here. Her staff (especially the lady who answers the phone) is terrible. Dr. Torbarina herself is nice enough but honestly, I don't think her skill is enough to compensate for the rudeness of her staff. I will definitely look for another gynecologist. more

Unprofessional 2/26/2007

I chose Dr. Torbarina after reading several good reviews of her. I had to say, I was thoroughly disappointed. I felt uncomfortable the entire time. The office is small, but that didn't especially bother me because it is New York and it's probably hard to get an enormous office space. However, her office staff was rude (the desk attendant was cracking gum and listening to loud music). And the doctor's demeanor isn't very pleasant. She responded to my questions like I was an idiot, and then made inappropriate comments about my breast size. more

Best GYN in NYC~ 1/26/2007

I was in complete shock when I read a bad review on this site for Dr. Catherine Torbarina. The people that write that it is an ""unprofessional"" office, must be completely arrogant uptight people. This office is wonderfully professional. more

I didn't listen to the reviews.... 9/24/2006

I should have. I was scheduled for the first appointment of the day and arrived a half hour early -- I did not see the doctor until 45 minutes AFTER my scheduled appointment time. The entire experience reeked of unprofessionalism -- blaring music, untidy and dirty office space, poorly trained staff, and a doctor who didn't seem to care that she treated her patients poorly, and little feedback about what was going on or the questions I asked. Next time I'll look for something based more than proximity and the fact that she has a PhD.... and I'll listen to the reviews. Pros: Was close to my office Cons: Everything about the actual experience more

Not Acceptable... 6/11/2006

I was relatively satisfied with my experience with Dr. Torbarina until 4 weeks after my appointment, when I received a non-specific, impersonal LETTER telling me that my Pap Smear had returned ""abnormal results."" The letter did include ""informational pamphlets,"" which were apparently supposed to make me feel better, but when you're being told that you should schedule a cervical biopsy, some mass-produced, clinically general brochures with pensive-looking women holding flowers on the front are NOT adequate communication. I'm sorry, in this instance I think it's only appropriate to receive a personal call from your doctor or AT THE VERY LEAST a Nurse or Medical Assistant. Cons: Unprofessional, Impersonal, Insensitive more

Mixed experiences 4/5/2006

Dr. Tobarina is relaxed and comfortable with herself, but is sometimes flippant about issues that are obviously more important to the person undergoing the exam or procedure. I do not think she puts herself in the position of the patient. Moreover, as I have often requested the first appointment of the day, she is invariably late. Her staff has changed often over the years which is a bad sign, although I can only speculate as to what the problems are. I believe that her staff is polite and helpful, but do not always get along with each other which is a reflection of the management of the office. Patients should not witness that sort of infighting or wrangling over who is supposed to do what task. In a small office such as this, the staff should be trained to work as a team. more

Best of the city 2/27/2006

All of my girl friends (friends who are girls) love Dr. Toborini. Pros: Bed side manner, no pain, punctual more
