The worst Hospital on earth! 1/19/2010

My fiance was admitted to the Columbus Circle hospital this past Thursday. The doctor would only see him once a day, which is pretty common for most hospitals, however, he had to chase the doctor down to get updated information about his condition (Which according to the patient's bill of rights should be given to a patient). Also the doctor wouldn't dare discuss discharging him, for a minor problem which didn't require him to be admitted in the first place. The doctor proceeded to keep him in the hospital for 4 days! I believe they were trying their best to pad his insurance by keeping him there way longer than medically necessary. Moreover when the subject of discharge with an order for a visiting nurse came up, the doctor outright lied and told my fiancee a visiting nurse would cost more than the hospital stay (which it doesn't by the way!) and that his insurance would never cover the costs. Also he told my fiancee that he would not write an order for a visiting nurse and he begrudgingly wrote an order for antibiotics and pain. Meanwhile the wound on his hand isn't being treated just cleaned and re-bandaged. The weekend nurse on the tenth floor is a true piece of work. If you ever get Ruby Dacanay request a floor change or a different hospital all together, because she was rude and obnoxious. When I requested to speak to the doctor, she came up with every excuse in the book not to have the doctor speak to me. When my fiancee requested to see the doctor, she had more excuses (A patient has the right to speak to their doctor, by the way). The cake topper came when she had the nerve to tell the doctor what she believe we wanted to discuss with him. Which neither I nor my fiancee asked her to do nor was it her duty to speak to the doctor about the question she felt we wanted to ask. And then as a final insult to this whole story, he had been sent flowers from a co-worker which he never ever received. My parents are in the medical profession and I too have worked in the medical profession as well and their treatment of my fiancee was repulsive as well as unethical. I think they were taking advantage of the fact he was from out of town as well as his health insurance. Bottom line, unless its a severe emergency, stay away from this hospital at all costs! Also if you wish to complain to the hospital directly make sure you ask for the patient services office of Roosevelt hospital and make sure they don't transfer you some place else. When I went to make my complaint call, the operator transferred me to Beth Israel hospital and when I got to Roosevelt's patient services office I had to leave a message, even though it was during business hours. I swear this hospital is a dump! Keep far away! Pros: if you can think of any let me know! Cons: unethical, dirty more

The WORST experience ever 2/6/2009

This is the absolute WORST hosipital I've ever been to. The ER is awful...I literally spent 12 hours SITTING in a filthy ""stall"" in the ER .... TWO hours of which I had a IV needle in my arm that wasn't attached to ANYTHING b/c the nurses/doctors were not paying any attention to me. I had to take two urine tests because they LOST the first one. (Meanwhile, I'd waited 2 hours between tests supposedly for the results b/c they had to ensure that I wasn't pregnant before a CAT scan...so that WHOLE time I'm waiting they don't even know where the urine is...let alone are they testing it!!). Everything associated w/the hospital is sub-par too. I had to go to one of the affiliated centers across the street for a follow up...and had to wait an hour just to see the doctor. And once I saw her ... COMPLETE B1TCH. All I can say is Thank GOD I have insurance and can choose other healthcare providers. It really makes me feel BAD for the people who have to go to ER rooms b/c they have no other options. I would operate on myself with a kitchen knife and a flashlight before ever returning to this godforsaken place. Pros: They have electricity and running water. There are no flies Cons: Otherwise you could do better in a 3rd world country more

Worst ER department 11/6/2008

Worst ER department, arrogant dr's.\r \r Went for a seemingly ordinary ER visit for a baby with a high fever and encountered rude, unhelpful, arrogant staff. The area was not crowded with patients and plenty of staff were visible, yet it took 3 hours to be discharged. would not recommend this department to anyone. i've had better service at hospitals in developing countries with limited resources. more

Disgusting Hospital 9/7/2008

As a patient, I find this hospital rather nastily disgusting. The patients throughout the ER were, indeed neglected. The staff in the ER Admission office only care about paper work for insurance while patients feel like they are dying! I was sitting there in severe pain several years ago while the staff just walked by as if I were a statute. \r \r Cleanliness is a major problem as a private hospital this is just unacceptable. more

Avoid even if ambulance insists to take you there 6/29/2008

My mother with terminal lung cancer was brought to St. luke's ER. The doctor and his resident were fine; everything else was not. The hospital needs urgent renovation. Personnel is indifferent and incompetent. They misspelled my mother's name in their computer system and then could not find her. After my mother has been moved to the general ward, it became really bad. They have no monitoring equipment, had to bring it from somewhere else to measure her pulse and pressure! I could not believe it, it's like a third world country. No chairs, tiny, uncomfortable and dirty space, dirty bathrooms, the nurses are not even able to put a pressure mask properly. They brought some food and left it without saying a word. Lower personnel mostly go around occupied with their own business, chatting in the corners all the time. No courtesy, no smiles. A child with no supervision plays in the hallway. I would never believe such a place existed in the middle of Manhattan. Pros: Good doctors at ER Cons: Personnel, lack of equipment, decrepit place overall more

Horrible . Will not ever go there again! 9/27/2007

It was my favorite Hospital until this year 2007, you were in and out and the service was good. BUT now its too crowded, theres no privacy, you have to wait about 5 hours to be seen and when you are seen you are rushed and treated like a piece of meat!!!! more

Oh, boy. 1/17/2007

I prefer to keep bad stuff to myself, but in this case I will break the tradition. It was the worst epidural in my life: many procedural mistakes and technical as well. The bloodpatch that followed (performed by the same doctor) was not an iota better. The worst of it all was that the doctor made it seem like it was my fault: you are so tiny and your spine is so tiny.\r Ouch. more
