Good atmosphere and great place to get girlie drinks, but don't count on real martinis here. Classic gin martini? nah. Manhattan up? nope. sorry, go for the cosmo instead.

Great Management! 12/30/2010

Last night was my 3rd or 4th time at Stir. I love that place. Because my girlfriend and I have a bit of history there, I decided to propose marriage to her at Stir. I let the staff know my plans a few days prior just so that they could hold a couple seats on the couch for us. To my surprise, the management took it upon themselves to prepare a bunch of cool stuff to help us celebrate our engagement. They definitely took what I thought was a simple space reservation to the next level. I was very impressed. more

Great Lounge! 6/8/2010

My friends and I had went this past Saturday and had such a fun time! The lounge has such a great vibe and is very trendy. The specialty drinks were so good, especially the peach tea martini. Our server was so nice and very attentive. She checked on us several times and we really received great service. I had beef sliders and crab cakes for dinner, and would recommend them to everyone. We really enjoyed our evening and will definitely be going back soon. Pros: Cocktails & Tapas more

Had the most horrible evening 5/30/2010

Firstly, the floor was sticky; one had to make an effort to pick up one’s feet or else it stuck to the floor. Service was at SNAIL’S PACE, though there were only 4 or 5 other customers. Our main dish came before the appetizer, which seemed lost but was discovered sitting on the bar counter. The bartender actually said, Let me go find it. He took the orders and every time he walked away it took him a good 15 minutes to return. When ordering food, he encouraged us to have the Southern Platter. When asked if the dish had anything fried, he seemed puzzled, like “What’s fried?” but finally said no, nothing was fried. Except for the quesadilla, EVERYTHING WAS HARD FRIED!! Food seemed to be from Costco! When we asked for the tiramisu, one of two desserts offered, the bartender had to walk away AGAIN to check whether any desserts were available at all. I wondered why they even bothered to OPEN. As a restaurant visit – it was a disaster! I was there with my husband – we’re minorities in our 50’s. I don’t know if the bartender thought we weren’t regular “lounge” types and had just wandered in and as such didn’t need any attention. Pros: cocktails Cons: Unclean, inhospitable, packaged food more

AMAZING!!!! 2/14/2010

I went to stir yesterday for valentines day. Our waitress Mel was great sweet and maDE sure we needed for nothing. Food was delicous, I initally ordered tuna which i didnt care for (not because of taste but because i had never had it before) So John was great and took my plate with out a question and replaced it with entree of choice. mel, joe, john and god i cant remember the bartenders name (he made fab drinks hence the reason i cant remember his name) Thanks to all of you my wife and i had the PERFECT VALENTINES DAY!!! Pros: REASONABLE PRICE, GREAT TABLE SERVICE, WARM STAFF Cons: NONE AT ALL!! more

Great place to host a Party 1/12/2010

I organized my brother's surprise party at Stir. Alex and his staff did a wonderful job addressing all my needs to make the party a success. All the guests thought Stir was a great venue for the party. It was a pleasure giving an additional tip to all the staff for all the wonderful work they did.. Thumbs UP!! Pros: staff more

Overpriced drinks, they try to scam you on the tip 1/9/2010

Went as a large group for a birthday. We had reservations. After a huge hassle when they gave away our table to accommodate another group we were seated. The food was ok, nothing spacial. The $12 for a tiny mixed drink was absurd though. The kicker was when we got our checks (we did separate checks). They automatically added 20% tip, but then listed the tip again on the credit card receipt along with a space for additional tip. So if you weren't paying attention you'd assume the credit card receipt was showing you subtotal (including tax), tip, add together and you get the total. Except the subtotal already included the tip. Very sleazy. Do not recommend, there are much better places to go in the city. Pros: none Cons: price more

Great Lesbian Scene 6/1/2009

There is an unexpected but great lesbian scene. It doesn't seem this was intended to be a girl bar, but everyone there is very friendly. I'm assuming it is growing through word of mouth-considering the huge amount of young lezbos living on the UES. It's nice to not always have to trek downtown to meet pretty and cool chicks. more

Awful 5/28/2009

This is what happens when a couple of Jersey yokels make a couple of bucks & open a bar. Terribly corny and B&T all the way. You're better off drinking beer at home. Pros: Liquor Cons: Everything else more

Great Party Venue 3/7/2009

After a long search for the perfect place to have a birthday party, I stumbled upon Stir. I walked in and was immediately charmed by the non pretentious decor and friendly staff. This staff included Joe, one of the managers of Stir. Joe was genuinely helpful and never tried to sell me on anything. We reserved a nice sized section that comfortably accommodated 40 + guests and purchased two bottles. The bottles were reasonably priced. We started off the party with food, which was a perfect mixture of party food. It was certainly not your typical bar food. As the night went on, Joe and his waitstaff made sure we were always taken care of. There was no confusion about tabs or tips; the waitress kindly let everyone pay in cash for each drink. Stir never became too crowded, the music was consistently good and there was no uptight doorman giving people a hard time at the door. No one had a problem getting in. Everyone had a great time. This place is perfect to throw parties. Just ask for Joe.... Pros: Waitstaff, Music, No Pretentious Doormen more

Stir - not your typical UES bar 1/26/2009

I don't usually write reviews about places but I was at stir last saturday for a birthday party and just have to say that i had a great time! I've gone to a lot of places on the UES but this place was a lot different, and in all the right ways. Very cool vibe, with a friendly bartender/waitress staff. No issues at the door...and the music was right on! DJ had us dancing the whole night!! Will definitely be back and will look to book my own birthday party there. more

A Place Destined for History (as in, soon to be history) 1/2/2009

Just returned home from this lounge and figured it best to share while the experience was fresh. While our waitress was adequate, there?s little else that to recommend about this tacky little place. The decor was closer to what you?d expect at the local dive bar but without the pool table. You?d think that at least some of the drink price would go towards comfortable seats or a decent DJ, rather than 4 LCD TVs tuned to the Colts/Chargers game and a ?DJ? little better than Z100 but without the selection. On top of that, the first three things we ordered from the menu weren?t available. There were less than 20 people there on a Saturday night after midnight in New York. This place is definitely struggling and management doesn?t seem all that motivated to stay in business. Given the abundance of alternatives in the area, this was a definite first time/last time visit. Pros: Nice Waitress Cons: Where to begin? more

Hot Spot! 11/5/2008

I don't know what people are talking about! I was invited to a Birthday party on 10/25 it was a Saturday night. When I reached the door I heard the boucer explaining to some people that there was a dress code. Hey I can respect that! When I walked up the boucer he asked for my Id. He looked at it and said are you hear for a party or drinks. I told the him the party that I was there for and he told me were it was inside. When I walk in it was packed. The music was pumping and the scene and the was nice. I went to bar to order a drink and the bartenders were real cool and fast. My boy had a problem with the seating area that he had reserved and the manager was very accommodating. I had a great time and I will go back again. My only complaint is that it was a little warm inside. Pros: Cool Atmosphere Cons: Little warm inside more

Avoid this bridge and tunnel 'hot spot' 9/23/2008

I was invited to this bar/lounge for birthday drinks. I live in area so thought I'd give this place a shot since I hadn't heard of it before. I am 100% confident that I will never return again. First off, the 'bouncer' was smoking a blunt and hassled me for wearing sneakers. Granted, I should've checked before hand about the dress code, but I assure you that I was dressed far better than most of the male clientele (I hardly think an untucked button down shirt, jeans, boots, and greased up hair is fashion forward). I managed to get in for a drink and by paying off the bouncer, but man it wasn't worth it. The bartenders don't know how to make good drinks, a waitress made me tip her for a glass of water, and when I went to close out my tab, the bartender had problems finding my credit card. Avoid this place! Pros: Bridge and Tunnel crowd mingling (hot single scene) Cons: Bridge and Tunnel crowd more

WOW! Upper East! 8/27/2008

Heard it was good, so I planned my birthday party with the event coordinator at stir. We had shuch a great time! DJ was good, drinks were better, a comp bottle of champagne! what a way to top off a night! I cant see why this place wasnt given top stars...very acommodating! Pros: drinks, staff, service Cons: space more

avoid 8/14/2008

nice place for drinks but I thought it was very tacky to add a 20% tip to a bar tab!! I could understand if we had food but for just drinks that is RIDICULOUS!!!!!! I will be sure not to recommend this place anymore when someone asks for a martini bar on the upper east side. more

not REAL martinis 5/11/2008

The best place to bring a date! 4/18/2008

We're so glad we found this great bar on the UES! Getting away from the other pubs or the "wannabe" clubby places is so refreshing. From the great drinks (lots of sugar and candy!) to really tasty and well portioned appetizers, Stir is an all around solid package. I brought a 2nd time date here and it was the perfect place. Just crowded enough, but not so much where you're getting pushed around and the music was great - not so loud that you had to shout. Highly Recommended! Pros: Great music, fun girly drinks and intimate atmosphere Cons: Not as secret as it used to be. more

Great ambience, cute bartenders 2/22/2008

I love this place! I've been through three relationships with this bar and come here for dates, the guys didn't stick around but this great bar did.Great for cozy romantic dates on a weekday, also great for hanging out with your friend on a Saturday night.I love the drinks,it's not one of those watered down, diluted drinks you get at other places, ithits you as soon as you sip it. Cute hot bartenders.Love the margaritas. They even have a little dancefloor if you need to do your thing. Love it. It has the best ambience compared tomost bars on the UES which are more pub-like or sporty, has a cozy loungy trendy feel. Even when I was abusing the owner how terrible NYC men are, he still gave me and my friend a free drink. Hey,can't complain about that. They even let us stay longer than 4am bec I wasn't done dancing. Pros: cute bartenders, great drinks Cons: none more

what a great place! 1/30/2008

This is the first time ive written a review on anything. Not that i dont have an opinion... I was at stir a last weekend and i had a BLAST! I read the other negative reviews and i just had to respond! The only problem with this place was...there was too much fun to be had! The staff was great and very welcoming and even bought us shots. How can that be bad? more

  • The Scene
Inviting chocolate brown couches with sueded pillows lure guests to the back area of this long, slim lounge. Music at a low volume makes the space accommodating for dates as well as for an engagement toast with the girls, and the post-work hours offer a refreshing amount of open seating. The only ambient drawback is the overhead lighting, which hits some spots too directly.

    The Draw
Upscale bites such as seafood wontons, shrimp cocktail and fresh guacamole for two make up the menu. As an alternative to pub fries, the bar serves red potatoes stuffed with cheddar cheese, spinach and bacon--a distinctive, hearty drink accompaniment. If too much flair ruins a drink for you, stay away from the house cocktails, with names like Lucky, Mojo and Flirt; they tend to be sweet and fruity.
