what a mistake 7/17/2009

I was NOT at all impressed by this place. First of all, the service was terrible - we literally had to flag the waiter down for every single thing we needed: more water, more ginger, the check, to take our credit card...he was too busy watching the tv to pay any attention and there were only THREE tables sat while we were there. Total loser. Pros: um, none Cons: Service and food - what else really defines your experience? more

Perfect for Pregnant Mums who LOVE Japanese but can't have sushi! 2/20/2009

Tell the chef and he'll have amazing and deliciously creative options: Summer roll, Sunomono, King Crab Legs prepared to perfection. Last post: Board of Health? Hmm? Perhaps it was an under construction sign since they have just completed a reno. The place was healthy, alive and packed. The sushi: Grade A, Spectacularly fresh and staff wonderful. In a neighbourhood where restaurants charge you for their rent and not food, Sakura is the rare exception. A wonderful West Village jewel. Pros: Fresh fresh sashimi and sushi. Attentive staff. Super value for the cost. more

Closed By the Board Of Helath 1/31/2009

Went there after reding all the great reviews only to find it closed with a big yellow sticker on the door from the Board of Helth. Cons: Hmmm.. Maybe the fact that the board of health closed the place.. more

Fantastic Sushi in a Neighborhood Atmosphere 1/2/2008

Well, there's just no place like Sakura Hana (also known simply as ""Floyd's""). Floyd, the proprietor, should be a case study in customer service and customer loyalty. He's a wonderful host and will remember your name when you come back for more. And then there's the fish, fresh from the fish market every morning at dawn. Melt in your mouth sushi and sashimi. If you're under the weather, the fish soup is good for whatever ails you. It's also a great place for kids - the yaki soba noodles dish with beef or chicken and broccoli is delicious. We've tried all the other sushi places in the West Village, and nothing compares in terms of value and quality. The decor isn't particularly special, but you won't even notice it once your food arrives. So go visit Floyd, sit at the bar, and ask him to fix you whatever is good that day. If you end up going often enough, Floyd might just name a roll after you too. Pros: Fantastically fresh sushi, great neighborhood vibe Cons: Can get a bit loud, especially on Fridays more

The Floyd Feast! 11/18/2006

We met Floyd back when he was running a small sushi joint called Sushi on Hudson many years ago and took an instant liking to him and his family. It became a 3-4 time a month hang out for a lot of us to meet at before a night of adult beverages... And now with Sakura Hana it's just like old times again. Pros: Great food, service and value Cons: Loud, busy more

Our Favorite Sushi Restaurant! 9/27/2005

This is where my husband and I take-out sushi and we'll miss it sorely when we move. Floyd is an extremely welcoming host and his sushi can't be beat for freshness, presentation and value. Out-of-town friends dined in the back ""party room"" and raved about it. Our big recommendation: The Dallas roll - YUM! more

Top quality / Excellent price 7/19/2005

The food is amazing and the price is very reasonable. This nice cozy place serves fish comparable to the most expensive and well-known sushi places in the city with unbeatable prices and the friendliest environment. Do not hesitate to enjoy this place and when you go just ask Floy (the sushi ""Maestro"") to take care of you. You won't be disappointed. Pros: Friendly People, Excellent Food, Good value more

Great Food, great value! 5/19/2005

The rolls are delicious, the atmosphere is great, the staff is nice, and the food is extremely reasonably price. I highly recommend it. It is also great for parties, as it has a karoake room in the back for 10-15 people. Pros: Cheap, Good food, Friendly Staff more

Best Sushi in Town 10/6/2004

sushi 3/31/2004

I went to this restaurant a couple of weeks back with 2 friends to celebrate my friend's birthday. As usual we ordered some sushi & rolls and some appetizers from the kitchen. The sushi were great and no doubt they were made from sushi rice and not regular white rice. The presentation were so pretty that we felt bad eating them. The service there were excellent. We got what we ordered for and the wait person there were so helpful. Our water and tea were always refilled and they even gave us a birthday cake in the form of some mixed ice cream with a cute little candle on top. Me and my friends were very happy that night and we highly recommend this small but cozy restaurant to anyone looking for and good environment to eat. Pros: reasonable, service very good, food excellent more
