Good Saigon Grill Location 12/28/2006

It seems Saigon Grill will take over most of the major neighborhoods in Manhattan with its affordable prices and solid Asian variety. Its so popular that this location in particular was one of the first to branch out from typical Vietnamese fare to Chinese, Thai, and Japanese items. Out of all of the locations, this place seems to be one of the better locations with its great ambiance (especially since its going to be renovated), solid service, and consistently affordable prices. The food portions have been fairly large and leaves one feeling pretty darn full for probably no more than $10-15 each. Lets see how they do once the renovations are complete. Pros: Food, Decor, Service, Prices Cons: Parking, Crowded more

Can't wait for it to open again! 10/17/2006

I LOVE the Saigon Grill and am so distraught that it's been closed for renovations for what seems like an UTTER ETERNITY!! All the food is fresh and yummy. My daughter has always loved the basil Chicken....I miss it! Pros: Amazing, cheap, fresh food Cons: Seating is a little crowded more

Great, Cheap Vietnamese Food 2/18/2006

My Vietnamese friends introduced me to this place and said it was just like mom used to make. For $5 you can get a huge bowl of pho or bun and a pot of tea. It's enough to feed two people. The food is always tasty, filling, plentiful, and cheap! The ambience is diner-like and the wait staff is rushed, but at these prices, I can't complain. Pros: price, food more

Amazing value 12/15/2005

One of the best bets on the UES. Their take out service is really fast, prices are very reasonable and the food is great. Not to mention that portions are huge. This is not a place for a romantic dinner or to celebrate any sort of special occasion, but a great, reliable option for everyday dining. Pros: Food, Fast Service, Portion size Cons: Decor (non-existant) more

definately worth it 2/25/2005

well i had read the reviews about this restaurant on citysearch, so my husband and I decided to give it a try. my husband and i both had bad past experiences with vietnamese food, so we were definatley hesitant. well to our delight the food was very good. the waiter was helpful in picking out some dishes we might like, the food had a thai edge to it as well, which was refreshing...the quantity of food was a good size with tons of shrimp in our noodle dish...our meal was under 30 bucks....so we definately came out of there feeling like a winner.......i recommend this place for sure......... Pros: tasty, inexpensive, interesting Cons: ambience more

Delicious Vietnamese 3/31/2004

I LOVE Saigon Grill. I've been there at least a dozen times. The pork chops, cubed steak, pho bo and whole fried fish are among my favorites. The ambience isn't great but the food is so tasty and so reasonably priced that it's definitely a fun date place if you want to get a bunch of stuff and sample. The service is always fast and so is the take out. It's a neighborhood fave so you might find yourself waiting 5-10 minutes for a table but generally no longer. Pros: Great Service, Great Food, Great Value more

love this place 2/18/2004

best value for great food in this neighborhood. Delivery is incredibly fast as well. Pros: food, delivery, service more

Fantabulous! 7/14/2003

I love this place. The food is always great and the delivery is so fast. No sooner have you put the phone down when you have hot delicious food at your door. Eating in the restaurant is great also. The waitors are always helpful and the wait is never bad if there is one at all. Pros: food, delivery, price Cons: NONE! more

Great! 5/23/2003

I order from Saigon Grill all the time. The food is great, it get's to my apt very quickly, and is inexpensive. I have eaten there many times, the service is always very fast. I love the shrimp summer role, chicken kabob's, and all the chicken and shrimp dishes. Saigon Grill is great! Pros: great food, fast delivery, inexpensive more

Very good food 12/18/2002

I disgree with the anonymous pan of Saigon Grill. My friend took me here and we each ordered delicious soups and Summer-roll appetizers. The small soup (I had La Sa Gao - a creamy Chicken Coconut soup, garnished with fresh chopped basil leaves.) was HUGE and very tasty. The Summer rolls were fresh and delish - and VERY cheap. Lunch for two with tax and tip was LESS than $20.00. My only complaint was the ginger iced tea was too sugary - but the home-made fresh lemonade was very tasty and fresh. Pros: Cheap, Fast, Delicious Cons: Decor, Service, Language Barrier more

A great find... 11/29/2002

This place has become part of a ritual with my best friend. We both love Vietnamese food and I happen to live in the neighborhood so we frequent Saigon Grill every few weeks. They serve enormous portions for reasonable prices. I love their vermicelli with grilled chicken and recently tried the sweet and sour soup with shrimp. Never have I gone there and spent more than 20 bucks between us...nor have I ever left hungry... Pros: Inexpensive, Great food, Lots of options Cons: No ambience more

A bit of Indian and Thai? 7/20/2002

I have never been to Vietnam, so I am not sure what authentic Vietnamese food tastes like. Some of the dishes in Saigon Grill feel like a hybrid between Indian and Thai. The soup I ordered (La Sa Ga) made me miss the classic coconut chicken soup in Thai restaurants and the maincourse (Curry Bo) made me miss Indian curries. The fusion (?) is interesting and worth a try. more

YUM! 5/28/2002

This is a great place if you are sick of Chinese and dont wanna shlep to ChinaTown. Its GOOD and CHEAP. They give you huge portions and its fast. Its a great place to bring people and shoot the shoot. Be forwarned though, get there before 8pm or else there is about a 10-20 minute wait. If you are late, dont worry, its worth the little wait. Also, its open late too, which is great. I think I will go there for dinner tonight! more

  • The Scene
Although the Upper East Side isn't usually known for its bargains, this is one. Neighborhood denizens may think they can keep this excellent and inexpensive eatery to themselves, but the secret is out and it's spreading. The eclectic crowd includes harried mothers too tired to cook for their children, businessmen looking for a quick meal, and older couples eager for a night out, all wanting the same thing: delicious food in a low-key atmosphere.

    The Food
While there are plenty of meat dishes, including the sweet and spicy Curry Ga with humongous slices of chicken mixed with eggplant, onions and coconut milk, and Bo Sate with sauteed beef, pineapple and crushed peanuts, seafood and vegetarian dishes make up most of the menu. The curried okra is crunchy and the vegetarian basket boasts a cornucopia of stir-fried greens served up in an edible pasta basket. Be sure to taste the incredible assortment of vegetable and seafood spring and summer rolls.
