In march 2007,I went to Rubanns Hair Salon in Manhattan. I was very pleased with my consultation with Rubann,he advised me to cut my hair and add some color and add some highlites.He then put me into the hands of Tracy (one of his stylists) the color he chose for me and the highlights were beautiful.If anyone could see the befor or after would be amazed.I look and feel years younger.My family and friends were also amazed at my new look. I will continue to go back for my hair cuts and touch ups. I would recommend this salon highley Thank you Tracy for a great and beautiful change . more

On 3/2/07 I came to this salon for a make over. Rubann decided on the cut and color and Kimiko did the service. I was extremely happy when it was all done. I needed a touch-up so on 5/18 I went back and Kimiko cut and did my roots again. When I was changing to leave I looked in the mirror and saw the most awful red roots. I told Rubann this does not look right. He applied two more processes and told me that the wrong bottle was used. The colors were supposed to be dark blonde and chestnut but a red was used. He told me that if I am not happy in two weeks to come back and he will redo the process at no charge. This day it was a 2 1/2 hour appointment. On 6/8 I came back and was told that it was actually two reds that were used. When I said how upset I was over this he said ""why it is only hair"" yeh, it's my hair.He then applied the two original colors and the red was still there so he tried highlighting and still it was there. Then a very powerful smelling amonia product was put on to try to tone down the red but you could still notice it. This appointment was again 2 1/2 hours.The only hair color I ever used on my hair is semi-perm color. I have to use mayo and eggs once a week and intensive conditioners and leave in conditioners. I never had to do anything but wash and use a conditioner and let my hair air dry. In 21 days I have had 6 processes done to my hair. I understand that this was a mistake but to me it was a very big one. I was told not to do anything to my hair for a very long time. My hair needs to be touched-up now but I am afraid to put any more chemicals on it for fear that my hair will start to break. I would not recommend this salon to anyone. more

I just found the best salon in the city, pro and friendly, well located with affordable prices .I had no style and my color was a mess,Denis took care of me for cut and color: a blend of HiLite+balayage ,the result is both very bright and very healthy/ natural looking,no more blowdry to do every morning...............\r Rubann is an experience you should have more

Yesterday afternoon I had such a FABULOUS experience at Rubann that I feel compelled to write about it. I was looking for something a little different, and not sure what I wanted to do, I put myself completely in the hands of my stylist. She always knows exactly the cut my face shape needs, the amount of highlights necessary, etc. I have a tendency to worry about things like this, so it is a real treat to feel at ease, knowing that she will take care of me. It's almost as if I don't have anything to say anything; she just knows. Once again, the final product is BEAUTIFUL. more

When I first moved to New York, I had one horrifying experience after the next, trying to find a salon that could do good work at a reasonable price. Then one day I saw a stranger with perfect highlights ? I couldn?t help but inquire. Once she referred me, I never turned back. Everyone on staff is so sweet and knowledgeable. From the shampoo girls (who do the real head-massage shampoo!) to the receptionist (who always greets you with a song and a smile) to the stylists (who know their stuff; once I was given personal lessons in hair washing so that I would create less damage) ? this place is the real deal. During my last visit, I heard a woman exclaim: ?I just love looking at myself!? Although I couldn?t help but chuckle, she was completely correct. Whenever I leave, I feel refreshed and ready for anything. I have been seeing my stylist from Rubann for quite awhile now, and I have to say I will not go to anyone else. My mom even likes my hair now ? small miracle? ! more

I was looking to dye my whole hair and have a nice cut. When I went there, I was given a hairstylist named Dennis and the owner Ruben consulted with me on what colours suited me. I wanted to dye my whole head, but Dennis felt that doing alot of highlights would be better. They final product turned out fantastic and they even told me that if I did not like the highlights, I could try it out for a week and then come back again to dye everything with no charge. As for my haircut, it was great and Dennis is really an expert. I went back a week later and even though the colour did not turn out like what I had expected, it was still not bad. Overall, the staff are really friendly and they are willing to accommodate to all your needs! more

Very disappointed. I was looking for a new look..so after hearing about Rubann and reading the rave reviews I called for a consultation. I had a consultation with a man,I don't remember who but he wasn't working the day of my appt. so I had Anna. I wanted my hair a lt brown & brought the picture I had at the consultation. I landed up with bright red hair but Anna put a brown toner on to correct it. Then it was very dark almost black, Anna was nice about it & lightened it with highlights. I kept showing Anna the picture & she said the 1st red color was marked down on my card from the consulation I didn't understand how it was nothing that was discussed or like the picture. Even with the highlights my hair was still very dark and uneven in color. I spent almost a whole day I just wanted out. Anna had told me before I left to call them if I didn't like it they would fix but I didn't have the time so I went to a local walkin place to correct. I decided to give Rubann another shot, I liked the cut from Deni & other clients color looked good..so I thought it was just a mistake. I booked with Anna but I got Ann Marie..that was ok but what if I had wanted Anna..and they also lost my color card from the first time..that was no problem since I didn't like my color..lucky I didn't. So we were going to start over since my hair washed out and now had lots of the awful red showing through. Ann Marie was very nice & was changing my base to get rid of the red & doing a few blond highlights....well I now have so many highlights may hair is bleached blond it looks faded..especially on one side. I told Ann Marie so and she said I can come back for some lowlights.but I want my hair to look good when it is done.I don't want to have to correct it all the time. I will never go back..I do not have the money or time for this & my hair can't take all this processing. I don't understand why this happened. more

I've always used a barber and I wanted a new style. A friend recommended Rubann. The place was super professional while really friendly and down-to-earth. I got my hair cut by one of the stylists named Deni and he knew exactly what would work for my hair, which I normally hate. I also bought some of the Rubann hair products and wow, they're amazing. I have always had natural golden blonde hair and did not highlight or color my hair in anyway. But as the years went by, my color seemed to be getting darker and needed to be brightened up a bit. I started going to Rubann about 2 years ago and can honestly say that I would now not trust anyone but Rubann Salon to do my hair - both my color and cut. Anne Marie is fantastic. She always gets it right and I am constantly getting compliments about my hair. I was originally referred to her by a friend, whose hair I loved and have since referred others to them. It's also become a one stop shop for me in that I get a fantastic pedicure there now whenever I get my hair cut and highlighted. A fantastic salon! I live in Georgia and visited New York City with my husband on business in March. I decided to have a New York ""do"" while I was there and researched this site and others to find the best salon for me. I choose Rubann for many reasons, but mostly because of the comments I read here. My expectations were surpassed! My hair turned out beautiful and the staff there was awesome. Once again, Anne Marie did an amazing job with my color! I am usually a ""creature of habit,"" but she suggested that we change the color of blond highlights that I had been getting to make my hair color ""warmer."" It looked amazing. My hair was in awful shape--dry, damaged ends topped off by a botched highlighting job. I needed an expert and chose Rubann because of their great reputation for coloring. I was thrilled with the results! My colorist/stylist Tracy was fabulous--I felt I was in very competent hands and appreciated the fact that he listened to my concerns. When I left the salon I felt terrific!! The brassy streaks were gone, and my hair was shiny and sleek--it looked better than it had in years. When I walked back out onto 57th St. I had a swing in my step and a smile to match. This was the first time that I went to an upscale salon, but one visit convinced me that going to an expert is well worth the extra money. I'm looking forward to my next visit! it's been about 7 years now, and i will not allow anyone but anne marie to touch my hair. the color is always great, and she shapes my hair so well that my cuts always last for months. rubann just came out with a line of products that i also love, especially the shampoo that smells like coconut. they leave my hair feeling soft and silky - i would take a trip to the salon just to pick up a bottle. The roots of my hair were turned bright orange at another salon. I went to Rubann and they corrected the color and the results were wonderful! They easily removed all of the orange. I was so pleased with the results - I highly recommend this salon! Pros: Skilled staff, Friendly, Affordable more

It seems unfair that it's taken me 22 years to find a salon capable of giving a great haircut and sound stylistic suggestions... but this is what I've found at Rubann. Upon arriving, I was greeted by the most pleasant receptionist. I declared, ""I would like a haircut"" and I was immediately accommodated. My hair was washed, and I was escorted into the styling area, met by a wonderfully talented man by the name of Tracy, who sculpted (fyithis is the first time in my life where I can actually claim my hair was sculpted, rather than the usual: unstrategically-cut; I do have an oddly shaped cranium) my hair quickly and professionally. In the end, Ive never been happier with my do. Advising me on grooming tips as I left, he bought a customer for life. Thanks, Tracy! See you soon. Wishing to return to golden blonde childhood locks, I was apprehensive about highlights that would appear unnatural. Ann Marie is masterful in the placement and tone of color and the cut is an added bonus. Two days after a new style, I called to say that I wished I had listened to her earlier; I was thrilled. I've been a Rubann patron for 5 years, and it's the only place worth the 6 hour ride from Cornell to NYC! As a NATURAL REDHEAD turned what people think is a NATURAL BLONDE, Ann Marie transformed my hair. She continues to amaze with her coloring skills and recently saved me from a horrific haircut gotten in Paris so that my friends raved about my great hair. Now I go for color and cuts cuts! I always say ""Work your wonders, do what you think will look great"" which I couldn't say to someone unless I trusted them and their judgement. Rubann always knows what looks best on everyone. From coloring to cutting to styling, the result is always spectacular! The service at Rubann is efficient, friendly, and fun. Nothing makes you feel better or more confident than a great hairdo, and I'm going to Rubann far into the future. more

I'm so happy I found this place! I went to Rubann having had my hair color ruined a few weeks ago by an inexperienced colorist. Within only one hour, their expert staff was able to make my hair truly beautiful and natural, exactly what I was looking for. Through their expertise and team work, they were able to pinpoint the exact problem and fix it quickly and effortlessly. They also gave me advice on how to handle my hair at home through proper shampoo and conditioning technique, and recommended, but did not push, their new product line. I have been patronizing Rubann Salon since the early 90's and recommend them highly. Everyone there is professional. You also get the best shampoos, manuicures and pedicures here. I had a problem with an ingrown toenail, that I had to keep going back to the podiatrist and Sanda fixed it and never had problem since. It has been a few years now. I always get compliments on my hair color all the time. It looks very natural. The products they use are top quality, and yesterday someone remarked how shiny my hair looked and people always compliment the color I also think the shampoo that Rubann developed has a lot to do with it My scalp is also very clean. I can't say enough, just go there and try it. You will feel right at home. more
