It’s a cute little spa but the Brazilian I got there recently was below average. The woman who did the Brazilian was very slow and pulled the strips too gently and slowly. It took...

A clean, quick and painless (first) brazilian 11/16/2011

I had my first brazilian done yesterday at this spa, and naturally, I was quite anxious. The lady who did the waxing (forget her name, but she was a petite blonde woman) was absolutely great. Not the chatty type (which I like), but made sure I was comfortable. She told me she would work in small sections so that I could test my pain threshold, which was much appreciated. I was quite surprised at how quick and relatively painless it was - of course, there was some pain, it being my first wax, but really not the level that I had expected and heard about - so I guess all credit to the waxer. Whole thing was done in under 10-15 minutes. Would recommend this spa to anyone looking for brazilians in a heartbeat! more

Great wax experience and love the price. 10/6/2011

I was first introduced to Red & White Spa through a Lifebooker Loot deal about six months ago. Even after researching and stumbling across some pretty harsh reviews here on Yelp and Citysearch, I decided to give them a go and have had four fantastic waxes since then. I guess you could say I am a seasoned (4+ years) recipient of Brazilians and my pain threshold has gotten pretty decent, so I'm a good guinea pig in that regard. I've been to both Anna and Dominika (I really may be butchering her name but she's Polish & I'm not the best with accents). I make appointments through their website or sometimes by calling (it's not uncommon to get voicemail and they'll return your call). I've never experienced the appointment time snafus that other reviewers have had -- most often, it's me that isn't able to get out of work when I expected or am running late -- so I can't testify about that arena. I started out with Anna and she really is such a doll. Petite, blonde, no-nonsense but gentle. She is not a chatterbox while waxing and I appreciate that -- even though a bikini wax isn't the most relaxing of experiences, sometimes it's really my only downtime (sad..!) and I love being able to chill out and be distracted by a magazine. At the time I was seeing her, I was only doing the Deep Bikini, which is not the whole shebang -- however, I recommended her heavily to friends because although she applies wax to smaller sections than I was used to previously, I was surprised at how relatively painless this was with her. She is very methodical and quick. I saw Dominika this morning and thought she was outstanding. She loves to chat during the session and I was totally okay with that. It's very comfortable and although she likely talks about the same things with everyone, I enjoyed the banter. I had to laugh a few times because she liked to get feedback on the results as she went, making sure I was okay and approved of her handiwork. She takes a bit longer (I think that perhaps all the girls there wax in smaller sections..? Or maybe my past technicians just really slathered it on..) but she's great at gauging when I'm expecting a rip and about to tense up. As I stated before, I was using a Lifebooker deal for my waxes but it is my understanding that they are very reasonable otherwise -- $40 for Brazilian and $25 for a good Deep Bikini. I would gladly pay that. For the last few years, I've been paying anywhere from $55-75 at some pretty well known spots and my experience at Red & White Spa has been just as pleasant if not more so. Do note that tips are only accepted in cash -- I think this is pretty standard but I have a horrible habit of not allowing time for an ATM stop beforehand. There's an ATM at the Asian market next door but I despise paying the fee and end up running to the Chase on Broadway. I realize getting a wax is a very personal experience -- not only because you're getting your pubes ripped out, but because people handle pain very differently. If you know what to expect, I would almost guarantee you would have a positive experience here. I am very pleased to have tried them and don't see myself ever going back to the other salon/spas I had frequented. more

Soooooooo Niceeeeeeee !!!!!!!! 1/23/2011

Got a gift certificate from a friend. Tried the facial and a massage. It was fabulous!!!! The massage was especially great and I came back again almost every week that I could for the past 2 months since I started going there. The staff are very welcoming and the whole spa is totally zen. Great place to go relax, and get some peace. more

Best Facial!!! 1/18/2011

I had their Deep Pore Cleansing facial here. The facial was very thorough and deep extraction involved. I could tell that they use very good quality products. I preebooked my next visit, so I will definitely will be back. more

Loved it!!! 11/30/2010

My girlfriend recommended this place for a facial. The woman was very professional and did a great job with extraction. I had neither redness nor puffiness afterwards. She suggested me some products for home use but no pressure like in other salons. I will be back to see her again. Cons : None. Pros: Professional and clean environment. Friendly stuff. more

Best place for the massage 11/18/2010

I tried so many places for the massage but this one is the one to go. I always ask for Ivone, she is great using her technique that helps to relief my back tension. I want to say thank you for helping me with my back. See you soon… Note: Have some cash for gratuities. more

Great Brazilian 10/31/2010

I got my Brazilian Bikini wax at this spa because my friend recommended going to this space. The polish woman who did my wax made me feel comfortable during the whole process It was very quickest Brasilian I`ve had gotten. I will definitely will be coming back to see her again. I did another appointment with her before I left the place because they offer 10% Off on my next visit. more

HORRIBLE FACIALIST 10/30/2010

Want to give 0 star if I had a choice. Waited 15 mins. Facialist(never said her name, had british accent) took me w/o apolozy for the delay, got annooyed when I asked to use bathroom, rushed me while I was getting undressed then did THE MOST PAINFUL extractions ever. I am an experienced spa goer & been to 20+ different spas & know what extractions feel like. She pushed my nose so hard, I swear my nose was about to break & now I have a dent in my nose weeks after facial. She put 1 mask, then put 1 lotion on & said I'm done. I signed up for spa wk 60min deep pore facial & looked at my watch to realize this was over in less than 45 mins. As I'm paying, facialist changed her tune, excessively nice to me & fawning all over me for what? for tips now afte this horrendous service. I felt like I was conned by this woman & never had this type (don't even know how to describe) of spa experience. So traumatized that I can't even be near that spa. more

right choice 10/19/2010

My girlfriend took me at Red and White Spa for my BDay. The place was really nice and the stuff working there was very professional and welcoming. I had to choose one of the services from the menu because she prepaid it as a gift. I really wanted a facial but decided to go with the massage because I had a back tension. My massage therapist was polish , I think her name was Ivonne. I gotta tell you - it was the best massage I`ve ever had in my life. The way she did it, her technique was very unusual and helped to release my back tension. Also, she put these hot stones on the area where I had pain. Overall, I had a great experience and definitely will be back to see her again. more

Disastrous Microdermabrasion 9/24/2010

I made an appointment for a facial and microdermabrasion through spafinder for "deal days." Each was only 50 dollars. But, I wouldn't return to this spa if they were free. I had never had microdermabrasion before and trusted the facialist when when told me that it "should hurt" and that I "should have scabs" on my face afterward. It was, however, extraordinarily painful and in response she kept trotting out cliches like "no pain, no gain" and "Rome wasn't built in a day." I called my dermatologist directly afterward and he informed me that I should not experience the kind of pain or damage that she had inflicted--that I most definitely should not scab after microdermabrasion and that such rough treatment could do permanent damage. The facial was perfectly adequate, but the extractions were very painful after the microdermabrasion had left my skin raw. When the facialist wasn't speaking in coded cliches, she was criticizing me for everything from my facial care regime (understandable) to my birth control choices (utterly inappropriate). When she left me for 20 minutes while she gossiped with the receptionist and returned to say "you just can't relax, can you," I realized that all I wanted to do was leave. A terrible experience. more

AWESOME 9/13/2010

Fantastic Facial! 8/28/2010

I recently went to this cute little place right in SoHo to cash in my gift certificate I got from my husband. “Red and White Spa” is the size of really trendy boutique. The rooms are bit small, but it felt very private and cozy. The facial I had was fantastic! It was so relaxing that it felt I took a nap. I must admit that my face did feel much cleaner and most of my blackheads had been removed because of the extraction. The woman recommended that I repeat the treatment again in three weeks to clean up my pores even more, so I would have cleaner and even better looking skin. So, I am coming back again. more

Something worth mentioning... 8/26/2010

It is something that I don't usually write about but this special treatment is definitely an exception to the rule. The Brazilian bikini wax here was one of the best I have ever had. It was quick and efficient. The woman who did my wax was nice and made me comfortable throughout the whole thing. The one thing that I paid attention to was that they do not double dip. Cons : They don't put gratuities on the credit card, so carry cash. Pros: Nice, clean and efficient. more

Made me feel like a true DIVA 8/12/2010

I purchased the “Spa Diva” package for $189. It was amazing. The Citrus Manicure was fantastic, it left my hands feeling soft, clean, and refreshed. I adored the lemony sent it left behind on my hands. The best part was the Swedish/Stones combo treatment, the warm stones, followed by the feet softening wrap left my body in a calm, rejuvenated, and serene state. The European facial left my face feeling super clean and fresh. I especially noticed an improvement in the appearance of my pores, they definitely looked diminished… I LOVE that!! I will definitely be coming back again!! more

Red & White Spa is simply SPA-REFFIC!! 8/11/2010

Usually I'm not a huge Spa fanatic but, a couple of my friends who all attend "Red & White Spa" on a regular basis persuaded me to try it out for myself. Let me tell you, I am a brand new "Red & White Spa" devotee. The staff is really nice, professional, and has great suggestions on maintenance upkeep . I tried one of their nail packages out, the Red Spa Manicure/Pedicure. The manicure is great for people like me who are always on the go; 30-min was all it took to make me feel brand new again!! The pedicure was just was fabulous; 30 min of heavenly treatment. My nails haven't looked this good in quite some time! I love to garden, so my hands are always covered in dirt and soil, this was a great way to bring them to their old soft and pristine state. Thank you! I will most definitely be coming back again! more

Spa Go-er Beware 7/28/2010

I went to the Red & White Spa for a deep poor cleansing facial. I wanted to try somewhere new and had read some good reviews about the place. It cost $120 and was supposed to last about 70 mins. What a horrible experience! I will never return there. First of all the woman giving the facial never introduced herself (so I can't tell you her name). The facial felt very rushed and was also very unpleasant, because she was rough during the extraction portion. When it was over, my face was sore and bright red. I looked at the time and realized it felt rushed because it was rushed. The treatment lasted only 45 mins. more

I love this spa - best waxing, facials and massages 7/22/2010

I have been a client at R&W Spa for almost 4 years, and have used their brazillian waxing and full arm waxing on a regular basis (brazil = every month, arms = every other) and have had nothing but a sweet, pleasant, getting-it-done experience. I have really loved getting facials and saw visible improvement in my complexion (they even do extractions) and their spa week specials are actually a really really good deal. The masseuses know what they are doing, and are good about working on particular areas that I am really tense in, like my shoulders and legs (from running). I have been repeatedly waxed at this establishment for years, and have never once had a negative experience. I refer all of my friends and colleagues to this spa also, and will keep going here until I move away from the city. Pros: kind, amazing staff. Great waxing, best supplies & facials Cons: that there isn't one closer to my apartment :) more

Save yourself! 7/17/2010

I was hoping to leave the spa with a nicely groomed....well "ya know". But instead I was subjected to the harshest, most painful brazilian was ever! At the time I literally said, "This is the worst", but not until I got home did I realize that my "ya know" look like the land of a war-torn nation (patches of unsightly hair everywhere), in addition, I was red, swollen and burned in some areas! SAVE YOURSELF, the pain, low-grade service and your hard earned cash....GO ELSEWHERE! Pros: The front desk staff is friendly. Cons: I recieved 1st degree burns from the brazilian wax! more

unforgeable bday spa party 2/15/2010

I honestly can't think of one thing I would have changed as far as the spa is concerned. The parafango wrap is like hot silk brushed on to your legs and the masseus would let me know softly everytime she was about to do the next step and what it was. Ana did my 1st ever Brazilian wax, and although my friends warned me of how painful it would be, she did it as gently, quick and efficient as I could ever imagine and I will definitely will be going back to her for my future wax's. Since I was always being tended to I asked my friends how there experience was out side of the treatment rooms and they loved it as well. They said that Hilal (works the desk) was especially attentive to all there needs and fun to be around. The only thing that was unpleasant was the extraction during the facial, but because the person doing it was so so thorough, I knew I got my moneys worth. Thank you again so much and you will be seeing me in the future. more
