Dog Friendly Dining with Great Food to Boot.... 8/29/2006

Good food, reasonable prices & friendly service are just a few of the reasons to frequent this restaurant near Golden Gate Park. Some of our favorites are the appetizer Focaccia, Organic Spinach Salad w/apples, feta, walnuts & currants, Spaghetti & Meatballs, Vegetable Lasagna and absolutely any dessert on the menu. They also have an unusual beer selection and decent (cheap) house red wine too. My ShihTzu/Poodle George just loves all the goodies and attention he gets while dining of the front patio (his absolute favorite SF restaurant). more

Chow! for food 7/16/2006

For a really good meal on a budget, check out Chows. "Chow!" on Church Street in the Castro District and "Park Chow!" on 9th Ave, right near the Strybing Arboretum in Golden Gate Park. If I was taking my children or visitors from out-of-town I think I'd use Park Chow as a lunch stop while enjoying Golden Gate Park and the amazing Arboretum there. The de Young Museum has just been re-opened also, so you've got that too. For late night meals, I don't think you can beat "House of Gnocci" in Northbeach and follow it with a coffee and desert at the "Steps of Rome". Don't forget "Mama's Cafe" at Columbus Park for breakfast. Be prepared for a wait and a not-so-cheap meal that will be soooooooooo worth it. Shaughnn more

Chow down at Park Chow 3/29/2006

Alright, so its a pain to find parking. And maybe you'll loop around and around to avoid dumb pedestrians who can't stay between the lines, but I still love going to Park Chow. If you're willing to walk a bit, try looking at the entrance to the park on 9th and Irving. Chill people, great food, a warm fireplace, and service that is usually solid to superb. I loved going here when I was going through my I'll eat healthy and just have a salad phase, while Alex was in his indulgent give me some meat phase. There's a variety to choose from, but I LOVE the organic spinach salad with apples, feta, currants, and walnuts. And you get to choose what size you want it in. If you've got space, try the ginger cake for dessert. It cames with pumpkin ice cream, which sounds a little weird, but it quite yummy. more

Chow 3/17/2006

I was so excited when the guys at Chow opened up a restaurant in the east bay, close to me! I love the food here as it's always made with high quality fresh ingredients. Park Chow has a nice outdoor heated seating area too. They have a nice mix of asian fusion and California style dishes, and while not overly innovative, everything I've had here has hit the spot. Try their ginger cake with pumpkin ice-cream, you won't be disappointed. more

Park Chow in the Sunset 9/23/2005

Park Chow is a casual restaurant in the Sunset district near the corner of Ninth Avenue & Irving. The atmosphere is great (they have a fire place), the price is good, the food excellent (around 15 dollars per person). I usually go for the specials, the last I got was 7 dollars included soup or salad and a sandwich. The pizzas are allso good. They have tables and a counter seating area. more

Great Food, Atmosphere, & Service 9/9/2005

Park Chow is one of our go-tos. Their food is a unique twist on California-Asian wrapped in the guise of comfort food. Their location on the edge of Golden Gate Park means that parking is easy as there is always loads of room in the Park during the evenings. The service is quick and the staff is friendly. The bar has great specialty coffees in addition to the standards. Added bonuses: they have a fireplace downstairs that makes for cozy winter dining and they have a great rooftop patio that lets you get outside when the weather is nice. more

a perennial favorite 8/23/2005

When I'm craving something better than cheap eats and something less than dining out in earnest, I head straight for Chow or Park Chow. I haven't gone wrong here yet, and neither have any of my friends, but my personal mainstays are the pork chops with polenta and the ginger cake with pumpkin ice cream. The place is constantly packed, but the service is always cheerful and attentive, and I've rarely waited more than a few minutes (admittedly I'm usually in a group of 2-4). Tips: Park on Lincoln alongside Golden Gate Park if you're having trouble; also, try eating at the bar if you're just one or two people. more

Good Eatery 8/16/2005

Park Chow's is like an American, Asian fushion type of hang out where you can find any type of food you are feeling like having. It's a hip hang out and has a beautiful patio eating area upstairs as well. Whether you're feeling like having Chinese, American, Thai, etc., there's a taste for everyone in your party. Good portions and the prices are definitely reasonable as well! more

Good hearty meals 8/16/2005

I tried Park Chow for the first time a couple of months ago and I was pleasantly surprised. Their food is flavorful and there were so many good sounding things on the menu that I had trouble deciding. I think their menu changes seasonally also. Parking is a little difficult. more

A good spot for an easy night out 8/15/2005

Of the two Chow locations, Park Chow is my favorite. The fireplace is a nice addition, and the waitstaff has less attitude than at the Castro location. PC is a great spot for a night out with friends, not too expensive and always solid food. more

Good Food/Nice Atmosphere 7/27/2005

Park Chow is conveniantly located on 9th ave and has a great little atmosphere, whether it be inside by the fireplace, or upstairs on the deck with the heat lamps, the place is cozy!! The food is good, reasonably large portions and good home style cooking! The wait staff are quick and helpfull. The pork chops are great as are the pizza and the chicken pasta. Reasonably priced with all year round pumpkin ice cream!! more
