Re-opened and fun! 2/2/2010

MeganInManhattan Provided by Partner
Recently re-opened, 200 Orchard brings a unique vibe to this ever-changing LES location. Though it has many of the makings of a dance club, I'm hesitant to label it that for fear of scaring many people away who would actually really like this bar. 200 Orchard is flashy spacious Jersey shore club in the back, and tiny gritty rock/hipster bar in the front...but somehow it works. A rotating schedule of DJs spin word-less techno music (though not much dancing actually ensues...unless you start your own mini dance party), but the music is not so overbearing as to ruin the night for your more laid back friends. Drink prices are surprisingly reasonable, especially considering that they sometimes charge a small cover. 200 Orchard may be taking itself a little too seriously for being the new kid on the block, but they back it up with a fun time and some spontaneous tongue-in-cheek fist pumping which I am all about. meganinmanhattan dot com Pros: music, drink prices Cons: sometimes cover, surprisingly little dancing more

Good food in an unexpected location 12/15/2007

I went to dinner with three of my girlfriends on a Friday night and had an above-average dinner for less than $50. In my opinion, this is not super expensive but not cheap either. We each had one or two drinks (beer, wine and liquor drinks), an entree, shared two appetizers and shared one dessert. The waiter was helpful and friendly, especially when my friend changed her order after the appetizers.\r Special notes about the food -- the flatbreads are an interesting part of the menu. I was skeptical but the cheese option was really yummy. It had lots of garlic so that always makes it yummy! The steak wraps were small, wrapped in lettuce and, in general, just ok so I wouldn't recommend them. The Orchard Salad was nothing special but hiit the spot. I had the butternut squash Agnolli (which is like something between ravioli and tortellini) and was really really yummy! I would definitely recommend that. Pros: location, ambience more

beautiful decor, stellar service, excellent wine selections, and a meal that we could have gotten at the corner kebab joint for several hundred dollars less... Pros: service, wine list, ambience Cons: food, poor value more

Great Service/Late Night Atmosphere 10/31/2007

I've been here several times and it is great as an after dinner, drinking late bar. If you are looking for a place that has great bartenders and gets really hopping later in the evening, then this is it. more

Bring your own wine? 10/22/2007

When I went to this place it was waiting for it's liquor license (maybe still is?), so it was BYOB with no cockage fee. Food's great, smokey and unique. Surprisingly great atmosphere, especially considering there are no windows. It's romantic, good place for conversation, I don't think you can go wrong with this restaurant. more

Modern romantic place 7/31/2007

You would not expect a place like this to be found in LES but it is quite amazing! I came here on a date and fell in love with the decor, design, and space. The restuarant is well designed and the food was quite amazing! I also had an amazing waiter who suggested their blood-orange soda drink (delicious!), mushroom flatbread, tuna tartar - all of it was amazing! For my entree I had the olive oil poached halibut which was just a bit too salty. I think they might've made a mistake on that one. But my whole experience was amazing and I will definitely be back again. Pros: Delicious food, drinks, Great Service, Great Decor, Great Date place. more

Great Food, Steller Service, Nice Ambiance 4/9/2007

This cozy little restaurant on Orchard is packed come date night Friday and Sat. I would recommend eating on an ""off"" night if you don't want to be squished and don't mind the lack of people watching. The food is simply amazing. I had a mushroom flatbread, tuna tartar, and lobster something they were all really excellent. Our waiter provided great service with attentive details to table space (which can be cramped), pace of our dishes coming out and time between wine refills. Ambience is trendy cool with plenty of people watching. I will definitely be going back. more

one of the nicest dining rooms in the city 2/9/2007

Lovely experience in this comfortably fashionable place. Flatbreads, lobster empanada and Osso Bucco were all exceedingly flavorful. Another poster used the word ""tawny"" to describe the lighting. It's true, but it's more like honey. The soft and flattering lighting becomes a friendly companion in the room. Props to James, the friendly and personable bartender who is a real good sport. Fabulous spot to surprise your local or out of town visitors with your keen knowledge of the secret locations of marvelous restaurants. Pros: everyone looks great in the honey colored lighting Cons: having to leave more

Fantastic 1/28/2007

Best meal I've had since I moved to NYC 4 months ago. The tuna tartar is amazing, as is the ambience and service. I had a wonderful experience more

Good but nothing notable (except the lamb) 1/12/2007

The food is good, the atmosphere nice, but there isn't anything really notable about this restaurant. The food is priced average ($10-15 for appetizers, $23-25 entrees) and is definitely good, but the portions are small. The lamb, however, is some of the best that I've had, but they give you 7-8 small slices. The paella is good, but nothing exciting. The halibut is fresh and cooked well. I liked the flatbread, especially the tuna tartare (with a small shaving of parmesian). The beef shortrib flatbread was decent. But for $12, the flatbread is a little overpriced for the neighborhood (6 small squares). I do recommend this place, but there are so many other restaurants out there that I wouldn't be going back... PS-- It's no longer BYOB, and the wines range from $30-200. I had initially chosen this place hoping we could BYOB, but now, without the cost-effective dining out option, this place went from a great deal to just another good place in NYC. Pros: easy to get in (make reservations), good quality food Cons: not that exciting-- new american/italian more

L.E.S. = Lovely, Engaging Surprise 12/28/2006

I'm over 30 so I don't often make the L.E.S. pilgrimage very often (20 min. via subway from the 80s -- what a hike!! ; ) ) but The Orchard made it worthwhile. Beautiful front bar & long, rectangular dining area, serene, with low, Zen-like ceiling decor and soft, tawny lighting that takes off 10 years. Our group had the fab drunken goat cheese salad and mushroom flatbread to start, as entrees the lamb (perfect!!) and steak, & two desserts (forget which, sorry ....it's the over-30 thing) which completed the spell cast by this engaging place. Calm, spacious, lovely decor, together with attentive but not intrusive service (& good wine suggestions) and uniformly excellent food, make us look forward to making another ""long LES trek""soon. Pros: Great design, polished service, great food Cons: ummmmm..... more

Beautiful dining room, great staff 10/11/2006

I went here on my birthday with my friend and had a wonderful time. We were pleasantly surprised that the restaurant was BYOB. We went around the corner, got two bottles of wine, and had a fabulous dinner. The dining room has beautiful orange hues and is just relaxing and warm. The wait staff is friendly, helpful, and attentive. The food was delicious. We started with the lobster empanadas and drunken goat cheese salad which were both great. The goat cheese tasted like it had truffles in it and the grilled corn that came with the lobster empanadas was addictive. For our main course, my friend had the mushroom ravioli which was SO good, and I had a delicious, huge, tender steak. It came with a little tomato and buffalo mozzarella salad which was tasty, I just wish there had been something a little more consistent. For dessert, I had the tartufo and my friend had the chocolate lava cake. Top that off with two delicious bottles of wine and it made for a perfect night. It was a great night and just a nice treat. For two people without drinks, it came up to $113 which I think makes it more for a special event place than an everyday place for the average person, but it's a wonderful night out and worth it. more

Fab new restaurant 10/9/2006

Enjoyed a delicious dinner here recently with a friend. The decor was beautiful, the service was impeccable and my meal was perfectly prepared (I had the bass) - although my friend's pasta with tomato and avocado was a little al dente. We shared the white choclate bread pudding for dessert. I am usually not a fan of bread pudding, but this was definitely the best I've ever had - we cleaned the plate! more

come for the flatbread 9/18/2006

fabulous flatbreads; these are the real draw of this place. excellent food - small portions on the entrees, but somehow we left completely stuffed. great, intimate environment, byob helps the bill. Pros: great service, byob, environment Cons: small portions more

My new favorite restaurant 6/22/2006

My husband, our friend, and I shared the most delicious dinner I've had in a long time at The Orchard last night. We started with the Robiola cheese flatbread with spinach, pancetta, and cranberries. Robiola is my favorite cheese so I was excited to see it on a menu. We next shared the lobster empanadas (fried pockets stuffed with lobster served with corn on the cob--the corn was wierd and unneccesary) and the crispy rock shrimp salad (super dressing!). I had salmon ravioli with asparagus in a light lemon creme sauce. My friend had butternut squash agnolletti (pasta pockets) with sage and butter, and my husband had the cavatelli with avocado and pancetta in tomato creme sauce. The raviolis were so delicate, and all of the flavors were fantastic. Portions were perfect (not too small, not too huge). Service was very helpful and friendly. Ambiance was lovely--lighting was pretty and amber, tables were spaced far enough apart. The only think we didn't enjoy was the dessert; that could use some work. This was my ideal restaurant. Bill for three (3 apps, 3 entrees, 1 dessert, 1 coffee) came to $125 plus tip. Being a BYO saved us a lot of money and made it so we were more willing to spend more on food. I can't wait to go back. Pros: ambience, food, BYO (for now) Cons: dessert more

A great dining experience! 5/11/2006

I only have good things to say about my meal at The Orchard. The servers were very helpful but left us to relax and enjoy our food. The portion size was very generous for the two appetizers we ordered; one would have been sufficient to share. Both of us ordered fish entrees and finished every bite. I would recommend dishes but I bet that everything on the menu is great. Definitely check out this restaurant and don't forget to bring your own wine while it is still BYO. more

The Orchard: Worth Picking 3/10/2006

Really an outstanding restaurant. Service was very good ... from the door to the waitstaff ... just very friendly and polished service. Food was spectacular ... flatbreads (steak tartare) were great ... salads very nice ... entrees (lamb) outstanding. I would highly recommend this restaurant. For now its BYOB until they can get their liquor license ... Pros: Food, Service, Ambience more
