Music AND Sports lovers refuge - real conversations, real people, real fun! 6/2/2008

""I am a 26-year-old female from NYC (originally, not transplanted) and this is my all-time favorite bar and music venue. They have great original and cover bands from time to time as well as an eclectic crowd you rarely find in NYC anymore. As for keeping up with the Lower East Side dive bars, this bar was around before the LES was considered ""cool"" and before most of it's young patrons even knew what bars were so the comments made about it being a fake dive bar are ludicrous and only typical of those who chose to compartmentalize and label neighborhoods. It boasts an authentic group of people from all walks of life and neighborhoods - I travel all the way there from Washington Heights, and a bunch of my friends travel from downtown because it is unpretentious (the bartenders rock my world!) and you can start up a conversation about anything with almost anyone - not true of the pseudo-hipster/ self-righteous bars and crowds popping up all over our city. BE YOURSELF, MEET NEW PEOPLE, GO TO AMERICAN TRASH! Pros: Great Music (online jukebox!), Pool Table, Friendly and Cool Bartenders, People who aren't afraid to be themselves and meet new people Cons: It is a little male-heavy, so females come on over! more

Best bar on the upper east side 3/7/2008

This place rocks. The staff is wild and crazy. The drinks are always cheap and there is a happy hour everyday of the week. It has that old school New York rock and roll feel. And there is live music and never a cover. Great place to come when you want a down town feel while staying up town. more

Noisy, hostile, faux dive w/pricey beer 6/29/2007

So this guy walks in to a bar....Ugh! I see Topher waiting in a booth. Great, he's held it for us. Usually, when people see each other, they say hi, or how's it going. Topher says, ""I thought you said this place was cheap. Beer is six dollars! And the people... they just hate you!"" Pros: Cheap bud lite Cons: everything else more

I have been going to this bar for a long time...I met some great poeple, and the love of my life...so ladies if you want to meet your match...he might be waiting for you at Ameican Trash. I have never had any problems there.....and always had a wonderful time. They have great selections of mixed drinks, beers and wines.....oh!!! go hungry because the food is YUM!!!!!! more

SLOP HOLE - THAT NOW SERVES FOOD & WATERED DOWN DRINKS 1/15/2007

Buyer Beware! Cons: DIRTY, DANGEROUS FOR FEMALES & WATERED DOWN DRINKS, GROSS FOOD! more

Great Bar 3/27/2006

I have been to this bar a few times and never had a bad experience. Not as much a dive as the name suggest. The beers where cheap at least for the UES and mixed drinks where strong and cheap. The bartends have always been freindly. It's nice find a local bar with any attitude. Pros: bartenders, low key, good vibe more

Change for the BAD! 11/26/2005

They got rid of the photo booth....BIG MISTAKE! That feature set this bar apart from the others...but now its just another dive. more

Oh, the memories... 9/29/2005

Question: Where can you play some foosball, shoot a game of billiards, listen to Whitesnake, take a picture of your Johnson in the photo booth, hang out with a one-toothed member of the Mullet Brigade named Road Dawg, play Ms. Pacman, and then end the night by smashing a Budweiser Long-Neck over the bar! Ill tell you whereThe Trash!! This place rules! I just wish they would let me back in. Dishes are done, Man! - Kenny Pros: Mullets, Cheap beer more

Take Me Back To The Days of College 3/25/2004

Blah, nothing great here at a perrenial college dive, just short of having saw dust on the floor. Go ahead, and call me a snob, but does it really seem snotty when all I ask is for a little more ecclectic music than the rock and roll classics we all listened to while in college? Basically, there is a male vibe running rampant here with zero attention to dress code, intellectual conversation, decent drinks, or any atmosphere. I think this is the sort of place that can be found in St. Paul, Jacksonville, or Des Moines, but not necessary indicative of New York. Go elsewhere! Pros: Neighborhood, Friendly, No crowds Cons: , No atmosphere, Too noisy more

PLEASE RECYCLE ME @ TRASH!!! 10/30/2002

Great bar & more importantly great staff! My beer's always full & my ashtray is always clean. Never a dull moment at Trash & the recent addition of the photo booth is great for documenting any debaucherous events that may take place - I know I have used it! Kick ass jukebox & friendly crowd dont hurt either! Plus it's all crawling distance to a 24 hour diner acrosss the street because when you leave you won't get far without some grub - all the drinks are Premium Leaded, trust me I've been the Victim. Pros: Inexpensive for NYC, Good neighborhood, Photo Booth!!! more
