Best

The cupcakes in Magnolia have just the right amount of frosting and it's never too sweet unlike some other dessert joints in nyc. I like to stop by after work and get a box of cu...

Worst

I agree with others that Magnolia cupcakes are average at best. The cake is dry and the icing too sweet. Its very similar to processed cakes you can buy in a grocery store. Crumbs...

AMAZING CUPCAKES 8/17/2005

I once walked over two miles with a coworker after we finished work in search of the cupcakes at Magnolia. While the cupcakes come in standard flavors (mostly vanilla and chocolate with similar sprinkle schemes), they are absolutely divine. There are other bakery options available (including a variety of cookies and cakes), but the long lines that crowd the exterior of the tiny bakery are all for these cupcakes. Any true dessert fan should try this at least once. Don’t forget the milk. more

so good 8/16/2005

these cupcakes are just as good or better than the cupcakes from the butter cup bakery. try any and all flavors. my favorite is the vanilla frosting on vanilla base. so good.. yet so fattening.... whatever.. go there and et some of the best cupcakes around. the place is a New York city institution!!! more

cupcakes and cakes 8/12/2005

If you want to take a date here or just go out with your friends to get some good old fashioned baked goods, I'd recommend coming here. there's often a long line outside to get into the time bakery, but once inside, quickly snatch up those cupcakes, angel or chocolate, either are both find and good. I'd suggest the double chocolate cake as well, if you're really in the desert mood. The place was pretty much baking fresh cakes every 30 minutes, so you're guaranteed to get something fresh and delicious. If you haven't gone there, I'd definitely recommend. more

So good you'll be sad when you're done eating... 8/3/2005

Magnolia Bakery in the West Village is a little slice of heaven (pardon the pun) in the heart of Manhattan. Cupcakes are amazing - they have a limit of a dozen per customer otherwise they sell out too quickly. This may sound weird but you have to try the banana cream pudding. It doesn't sound all that exciting, but believe me, this is worth trying. The only downside here is that lines can be long, but they do move quickly. Enjoy and let me know what you thought. more

West Village's Super Treat 7/24/2005

Located at the corner of Bleecker and 11th, Magnolia is a gem of a bakery. It is based out of a small shop of an old building, but it has an undefinable charm about the place that lures locals and tourists alike to come sample their sugary delights. Since it was featured on hit TV show Sex and the City, Magnolia has seen its business boom more than ever before. You'll see a long queue half way around the building at just about any hour of the day. And for a good reason too! Their red velvet cake is to die for!! more

YUMMY! 6/20/2005

Magnolia is a New York classic--these are by far the best cupcakes in town, and the perfect pick-me-up. The buttercream frosting is reliably PERFECT, and the cake is buttery delicious. The cookies and cakes they have are fresh-baked and well worth every penny. If you want to keep the weight off, I wouldn't move to a place within a block of one of the three outposts...I wouldn't be able to resist a daily visit! more

Editorial
  • The perpetually long lines might be due to the bakery's "Sex and the City" fame, but don't understimate These desserts have a cultish following, and it's easy to understand why--nothing on the menu administers anything less than a spectacular dose of sugar. Addictive red velvet cupcakes come slathered in an icing that's as pure an expression of sugar, vanilla and butter as you're going to find. Or try a slice of the decadent "cherries jubilee," a moist mini cheesecake or the legendary banana pudding.
