DO NOT GO HERE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE 6/23/2009

why do ppl like this place? any review u read of this resturant must be written by someone who unfortunately hasnt experienced gourmet food or a good dinign experience in manhattan. trust me this place woudl make any one cringe- who is a semi foodie or at least has some class 1) it is like a nightmare from 1976. It is dirty old and dingy 2) the appetizerts are scary. they are too moist with refrigerator moisture. IT IS NOT FRESH! 3) my appetizer NEVER CAME- they just forgot 4) entress came- took 30 minutes of us waiting, waiting.. The food was terrible. Lamb had no meat on the bones, just fat. came with imitation potatoes and vegetables that had absolutely no flavor. the dish lacked taste. it was liek something my grandmother would make if she had lost her sense of smell or taste and her eye sight was going. it was BLAH! my boyfriend couldnt even eat his steak becuase the cut of meat was so poor that it was inedible. it was served with stone ground mustard what chef in his right mind serves mustard with red meat?!?! 5) i asked for a clean napkin TWO times, and never got a clean napkin 6) the desserts were the worst. chocolate mousse- really a heavy, imitation cream package mix tastign concoction. it was not fresh. it tasted liek it had been in a refrigerator for a week covered in cellophane. it tasted like an old dirty refrigerator and had a film formed on the top. it was un-edible worst meal of my life worst service in all of nyc in my life. Pros: NOTHING Cons: food was disgusting, old, dirty, terrible service more

Great Food, and good service 12/18/2007

I went here with my wife, about a month ago. We walked in and there was a party waiting in front of us. We were seated in less than five minutes. They seated us and then came the mountain of meat. I was very cool to see but it is impressive only the 1st time. The tables are close but it feels private and there is a more seating upstairs. The service was fast and the food was good. It is now my wife's favorite place to get french food. Pros: Great food, personal service Cons: you are close to each other even though you don't notice it. more

Great price, friendly service! 10/22/2007

We went for a weekend lunch recently and were very happy with our choice--the $15 lunch prix fixe buys you an appetizer of a large hanger of assorted sausages, a basket of fruits/vegetables, gherkins, and the house-made terrine de pate, as well as your choice from a large list of entrees (not just the trifecta of chicken, fish, and veggie options you're usually limited to at prix fixe joints) Salmon and calf's liver were both good--not forging into uncharted gastronomic territory but cooked well and satisfying. Service was warm, friendly and unpretentious, atmosphere was relaxed, and even though we were probably munching on the appetizers for over an hour we were never rushed. Overall, a great place for a filling, pleasant meal for a beyond-reasonable price. Pros: Price, tasty terrine, unpretentious Cons: A walk from the nearest train line more

Terrible staff and food! 9/3/2007

We ate there for a first date and it was terrible. Only one waiter spoke English, the rest spoke Spanish, not French! The staff all hung out outside the door to the kitchen and at the table next to ours. We had no sense of privacy. I have to wonder about the sausage and vegetable & fruit appetizers: The uneaten portions obviously aren't discarded. The sausages are cut by the customers. Do you want to eat food that other customers have handled? The salmon was dry and the chicken cordon bleu was small and greasy. I wouldn't be surprised if everything was microwaved frozen entrees. Pros: Cheap food, especially with a coupon for a free dinner. Cons: unsanitary, waiters can't speak English, poor quality food more

Excellent atmosphere 2/13/2007

Excellent atmosphere that is cozy warm and inviting. It's best shared by good friends or as a date destination. $22 price fixed menu includes a self-serve appetizer of meats, fruits and vegetables with various spreads. Extremely enjoyable menu. The food is excellent but not in a way that meets gourmet expectations. It complements the atmosphere in a way that it's like French bistro soul food. The restaurant has the type of inviting atmosphere where good friends sit down for dinner and walk out 2 hours later laughing over the time and number of stories that were told. Every aspect of the experience is good, which makes the whole great. Pros: Excellent all-round experience in an intimate environment Cons: No parking more

Amazing food! 6/5/2005

A friend of mine and I bumped into this restaurant last week and it didn't look like any special place on the outside, but when we looked at the menu we decided to give it a try. We were absolutely astonished with the amazing food they had and the incredible choice of French traditional dishes and also the timely service. The interior is very cozy. Highly recommend it! We had dinner there for about 3 hours. more

MUST EXPERIENCE 11/6/2004

A few of my friends had recommended this place. I finally had a chance to go for their unbeatable $13 prix fixe lunch. Garlic chicken special, steamed mussels and linguine with seafood were all absolutely delightful. Very casual, relaxed, nurturing atmosphere. It wasn not very busy when I went (Sunday afternoon) but it would probably be busy around dinner time. Pros: everything more

Charming Hidden Jewel 7/27/2003

One of the best french restaurants I have been in. There are no pretentious waiters and waitresses, just fun-loving, smily people at this East side place. It is small, dimly light and remainiscent of a small quiet restaurant you'd find in europe. Authentic french cuisine complete with a traditional offering of sausages, fruits and vegetabes in lieu of bread before you even begin your meal. The outside does not look promising but the atomostphere inside is so ""homey"" that you instantly relax. Pros: Friendly Staff, Authentic Cuisine, Moderately Priced more
