Kenneth has experience with all hair types and colors. Before moving to New York City he owned his own salon in Dutchess County New York, just a commute away, employing over 20 stylists. Kenneth has work with some of the best stylists in the city including Morgan. Please contact Kenneth at the salon and book an appointment. Nearly 800 loyal clients and growing. more

This actually happened! 3/31/2012

I went in for a haircut because of the good reviews, and hoping to find ?my place,? where I could become a regular. It seemed on the expensive side, but I was hoping it?d be worth it. So I tried it out with a Groupon. I discussed with the stylist ? Kenneth ? what I wanted, and showed him pictures. He told me he understood that I wanted my hair longer in the front and shorter in the back. He cut a lot in the back but when I said it was really short, he reassured me that he wouldn?t cut any off the front. (?Don?t worry, you?re not going to have a *bob*!?) He then proceeded to cut the front just as short as the back. (I honestly think he got distracted singing and dancing ? he kept saying how great the songs were that were playing ? and forgot what he was supposed to be doing.) But then, he also styled my hair like a grandma. I pointed out it wasn?t longer in front, but he said it only *looked* like it wasn?t and that maybe if I flat-ironed the front and curling-ironed the back, it would look like what I?d asked for. Okaayy. I was doubtful, but went home and tried it. Didn?t work. I definitely have a bob. I felt really disappointed and sad, and not at all confident in how I looked. So I called them the next day and got the receptionist. She asked what I would like them to do. I said trim the back more ? even though my hair?s already too short, at least it?d be closer to what I?d originally wanted. She looked and said that because I was a Groupon customer, they wouldn?t fix it for me, but I could come in for another haircut and pay full price. I asked why would I pay more for another haircut when I wasn?t happy with the first one? She said, I guess I?m not sure why you?re calling. I said, I thought I should talk to you rather than just go and write a negative review. She asked me to hold and then a man came on the line and said, ?You want to write a negative review?? I asked who it was, thinking it was Kenneth. He said, ?This is Morgan, the owner. Listen, I?m running a *business* here. If you want to write a negative review, feel free and have a nice life.? Click. He hung up on me. Consummate professionals there at L?Atelier. Maybe the receptionist didn?t explain properly, but the owner didn?t ask me what the problem was or give me a chance to explain myself. Maybe it?s na?ve, but I thought they?d care about a client feeling good about the way she looked and being happy with their service. I was expecting concern, or at the very least, courtesy. In the words of another reviewer, ?Messing around with someone?s hair can be detrimental to their self esteem. I'm miserable and there?s nothing I can do about it except write this to warn you. It?s not fair that they don?t care.? more

Great Cuts, Great Color, Great Place! 3/9/2009

attention all girls in search of the perfect messy pixie cut!!!i have being getting my hair cut by david s. for going on 15 years now and when he moved downtown to L'Atelier Salon by Morgan and Paul, i was thrilled. it is an intimate place: small without being claustrophobic, friendly without being annoying. the atmosphere is hip but also inviting--i actually look forward to the hours i spend there. morgan is a convivial, happy presence and his particular brand of french charm is infectious. as for david, he give the best short haircut i've ever had--very textured and beautifully shaped, in my case with streaks of platinum painted throughout my ashy blond hair. as far as cost goes, the prices seem to be in the mid-range by manhattan standards, but i have gotten so many compliments over the years that it's well worth it. david has great instincts when it comes to both cut and color, and he's incredibly nice! who could ask for anything more? Pros: great group of stylists who really seem to care and take pride in their work Cons: none that i can think of more

Best Japanese Hair Straightening experience with Eric 3/2/2009

Long, thick and frizzy unmanageable hair.. I'm the perfect candidate for Japanese hair straightening (aka Thermal Reconditioning ). My first time was Salon Mai, midtown on 55th street. The first time was remarkable: silky hair, easy to maintain: a dream come true. The second and third times not so great. My hair was more brittle and dry. The first Japanese stylist was long gone and replaced by much younger and noticeably less experienced staff. Finally they closed last year and I was wondering where to turn for my next treatment. A friend, regular customer of Morgan's salon, told me that Eric was specialized in Thermal Reconditioning... so off I went. The result was AWESOME! Eric blew my prior experiences away. I barely saw the time (5 hours) go by because we had such a nice time....the salon is really friendly. The result was the most beautiful straight silky hair ever. He uses the top of the line Liscio products (from Japan I believe) and follows up with strong recommendations on products to use to maintain the best result. (I was never recommended follow-up products before and believe me the advice was precious). It's been a couple of months now and my hair is still fantastic. As soft as this procedure is supposed to be it's still a relax and can be botched. Hair can easily get damaged (I realize now that my last session at Salon Mai was a close call) so the best advice is to head for the best professionals. I will be due for another treatment in about 2 or 3 months from now and I wouldn't think of going anywhere else. Eric inspires me unconditional trust. Highly, highly recommended. Cherry on the cake... I walked out with a fabulous blowdry too. That's important since you cannot touch your hair for 3 days or wet it for a week after the treatment. more

See Hector! 8/6/2008

I went to L'atelier salon while on vacation in NYC. I am from Toronto. All I have to say is, see Hector, he was my knight in shinning armour! Unfotunately with a young toddler I have no time for myself, so before my trip out here I dyed my hair with drugstore bought colour and applied it myself while my daughter was alseep. It was a disaster! The colour was very light and it completely washed out my complexion. I found L'atelier through my hotel's concierge but as I approached the place, it seemed quite posh and pretenious. Hector was the exact opposite, he was down to earth, honest about my hair and extremely hillarious. I had a blast while my he fixed my colour. He immediately knew what colour would best suit my skin tone and recommended that he do a trim. He totally brought out the shape of my face and made me look thinner. The best part was that he recognized that I didnt have time for myself and made me feel so appreciated for my sacrifice as a new mother. Something we expect from our husbands! Do yourself a favour and SEE HECTOR!!! more

AWESOME COLOR! Love my hair... ! 6/26/2008

First time at L' Atelier and I LOVE IT!! Pros: Very professional, nice atmosphere, great service more

Very satisfied! Eric was awesome 6/8/2008

I went here for my first time the other day. Upon entering I was welcomed by the nicest assistant and friendly patrons awaiting their turn. They assessed me right away and told me I would be taken care of in a few moments. The cut came out fantastic! The music was wonderful and the overall ambience was just my style. Not too pretentious but definitely hip. Pros: Ambience, Service Cons: Nothing more

Excellent! 3/26/2008

I am very particular with my hair, rarely relying on someone randomly, but at L'Atelier Salon I met Iliana and trusted her. She is very attentive, listens carefully, makes suggestions and works very carefully with confidence. I got a cut and color, medium-ash blond. Great Job! I will return. Thanks Iliana! more

I've finally found someone 2/21/2008

I'm so happy! I've finally found someone. Someone wonderful in a great salon. Pros: very talented professionals more

Best hair cut and coloring 8/1/2007

I had a disaster perm at another salon in the village a few years back, so I?m very protective about who touches my hair. I love what they do at Zoia, and recommend it to all my friends. more

Highly recommended for natural highlights 6/8/2007

Scott, the colorist, has exceptional skill - he listened carefully to my concerns and then gave me exactly what I wanted. I'm very picky, so grateful to have found someone so good at what he does (and he's really nice!). more

I want to marry Scott 4/19/2007

and have his children and then have him do their hair with all the meticulousness and care that he's been doing mine with since I moved to the East Village years ago. See you soon babe! more

janet is great!! 3/4/2007

i read all the great reviews on this site so decided to give salon zoia a try, the only day i could come was sunday and janet was the only one who was in that day so i was given an appt with her...seeing only one review about her on this site i was a little hesitant, but the reviewers comments could not have been more on point...i just got home a little while ago and i cant stop looking at my new haircut in the mirror, its gorgeous!! after growing my hair out for almost a year i was nervous about even getting a trim, but janet assured me not to worry, and boy was she right!! she definitely comes across matronly as the other reviewer commented (was wearing a blazer with disney characters on it, so that threw me off a bit!), but you have to trust that she knows what shes doing with a scissor!! she gave me just the right amount of layers so my hair looks full, healthy, and not any shorter than i went in, just more stylish! the salon was cute, clean and welcoming...if youre looking for a new salon/hairdresser, salon zoia/janet is my recommendation!! Pros: cute atmosphere, clean, affordable Cons: stylists werent the young hip kind youd think of at an e village salon more

A HIDDEN GEM 1/13/2007

I like most am extremely skeptical when it comes to trying new things, especially new things related to my hair. After recently moving to NYC, I was thrust into my biggest fear of attempting to find a new hairstylist among thousands in the city. I have very long hair and I love it long. I have never in my life gotten a hair cut where the amount the stylist planned to cut off in my consultation was the amount that was ""actually"" taken off. I made an appointment with Scott Wasserman after reading all of his reviews. . . and not only did he live up to each and every kind word that was written about him in my opinion he surpassed the praise. He was professional, friendly, open to suggestion and best of all gave me EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED. It was by far the best haircut I have ever had and can officially say that i am Scott's #1 Fan am addicted to Salon Zoia, Scott and his fabulous hair cuts and blowouts. He is a keeper and I encourage all to try him out. You will not be disappointed. Pros: Availability, Service, Personality,Skill more

Props for Janet 1/8/2007

After seeing all the reviews for Scott & Zoia, I had to give kudos to Janet! I've had all three work on my hair, and as great as Scott & Zoia were for cuts, the dead-hottest, s&xiest, most vicious cut I've had in my *life* bar none - came unexpectedly from the low-key, sweet, down-to-earth Janet. She's also given me a terrific blow-out before for a wedding. So attentive, takes all the time she needs, and styles you to the yummiest you ever wanted to be. Put in complex, all-over layers, encouraged me to do my highlights at home if I wanted, and patiently showed me how to replicate the blow-dry ""flipping"" technique. Over a week later, I'm still smitten with my own head! Don't be put off by her matronly chair-side manner, and don't walk straight to the seemingly younger & hipper Scott & Zoia -- they're absolute experts, but Janet is a *genius.* Pros: Expert skill, patient attention, normal prices, feels like family, cool decor, very clean Cons: Pre-gentrification atmosphere might put off those who want more polish & trendiness more

Chill NYC Salon 1/7/2007

An affordable and relaxing haircut and color. I got the best haircut of my life here and my color is fresh and just what I am looking for. Scott and Zoia do an amazing job. more

Best place in NYC 10/9/2006

I met Zoia in westchester county where I resided near her and took care of her daugthers. It is a pleasure knowing Zoia. When she first took me to her salon, I was skeptical cause the first person who did my hair was Leslie in another location. At her new location, I met a guy named Scott and he was the most plesant, humble and unique type of guy. I was very impressed with the way he stripped my hair and put the platinum look on me. When I came out of the salon, I got compliments, from the minute I left the salon to the minute I came him. I thank God for Scott. I miss him and hope to see him soon. Everyone at the salon is great and they make you feel at home. In my opinion, if you think you think you tried the rest, try the best.. Very highly recommended. Zoia and her staff make you feel very relaxed and they buy you jelly donuts.. HOLLA! LOL more

Hairtopia 8/9/2006

I went in today for highlights to Scott. My hair was jet black and I had previously had it highlighted elsewhere and they made my hair into every possible color. Scott saved me!. He spent hours working on the madness. He did everything he could to make my hair beautiful again. Every woman wants to feel at ease when they change their hair and Scott makes you feel just that. He takes the time to tell you what works for you and what doesn't. Something I personally appreciate. The place has a great cozy feeling to it and great people too. Thanks to Scott for my new caramel highlights, Janet for the cut and Zoia for a great salon! . more

Best Color 7/28/2006

Owner Message
  • "Owners and partners Morgan and Paul opened a new edition to Christopher Street, L'atelier in May 2005. L'atelier is a high-end salon without the snooty high-end vibe. Morgan offers his clients not only impeccable service, a friendly staff, and soothing music, but he'll also offer you a glass of wine and great conversation. Having been through the Bumble and Bumble too cool for school mill, I loved the personal feel of this neighborhood salon. The dark wood flowers, white brick walls, black and white photos, and floral arrangements create a comfortable chic."
