Best

Amazing, clean, healthy, perfectly made food that tastes insanely GREAT.

Worst

In a recent winter time in NYC we decide to order couple times from Kitchenette, our favorite place from the time we live in Tribeca from 1999 to 2004. But what happen? The restau...

Mistake may have been going for dinner 7/2/2003

I didn't think Kitchenette was anything special. I went for dinner last night and I had their catfish with vegetables. The food was decent, but I probably wouldn't go back for dinner. more

Best Brunch in the City 6/26/2003

Great food, always well prepared. Creative combinations of ingredients and flavors - especially the omelettes and sandwiches. Laid back country-style atmosphere. Friendly staff. Pros: great value, good food, friendly service Cons: long waits on weekend more

Good, not superb 6/8/2003

Waiter was very blase, never asked how things were, spoke maybe two words. Busboys and service though was excellent despite mute waiter. Appetizer and dinner had way too much butter/butter sauce...a sauteed calamari app and seafood risotto dinner. Choc mousse dessert was very good. Need better beer selection for us non-wine drinkers.., though tried a good italian beer. Very reasonable for NYC Restaurant. Wife had bland mixed salad with oil and vinegar, and very good pasta with eggplant. Including One beer two sodas +tax/tip...$86. Would re-visit. Garden area was nice, not as nice as thought it would be, but much better than typical restaurant dining room. Service was quick, but not as rushed as some reviews make it out to be. Pros: Inexpensive, good location, Good service Cons: , beer selection, buttery more

Consistently good, but slipping? 4/23/2003

"Wonderful place. Fresh eggs, bacon and baked goods originate in a small kitchen to the side. Pies and cakes near the fron get your mouth watering. Charming seating area. Good coffee." That was my original review. Lately, though, I've started to take my breakfasts at Square Diner (same neighborhood, up a couple blocks). While S/D's coffee is inferior, their French Toast and sausage are far, far superior of late, and the value can't be beat. My expectations of Kitchenette run pretty high, almost as high as their prices. The grapefruit juice alone would bankrupt a single mother. My last meal there, a breakfast of french toast with strawberries, bacon, and the aforementioned juice, ran close to $20 with tip! Apart from the cost, the french toast was flat-out DREARY!! -- a bit flattened, not glistening with just-made freshness. I don't even recall it being that hot. The bacon was whatever, inferior to the stuff at Good Enough to Eat uptown. And of course, there was the jeweler's choice juice. I don't know if it's still worth it. more

What's all the fuss 3/9/2003

Sorry, but I just don't find this slightly better than average luncheonette hardly enough to get excited about. Came by on a Sunday and sat at the counter (which overlooks the really horrendously sloppy back counter). Eggs (scrambled) were fine, bacon thin and greasy, and potatoes way overcooked with onions and green pepper reduced to a morass. Service was okay but slightly on the dippy side. I had to almost use pliers to pull out information from the counter server: "Do the eggs come with toast" answer "If you want", "Does that mean it is extra", "Not necessarily". What kind of totally unnecessary and stupid verbal joust was this. Pros: nicely prepared eggs, fresh orange juice Cons: overall mediocrity, servers more

homey and cozy 1/8/2003

I love this place. I just went on a Sunday and only had to wait 10 minutes. Our server was so helpful - he went out of his way to make us happy. It's cramped and you are elbow to elbow with other tables, but that's part of the charm unless you're sitting next to a jerk. Highly recommend the goat cheese omelet! Pros: Good food, quick service Cons: cramped, can be long wait more

Good food, long wait. 1/7/2003

This is a great little brunch place, but plan on waiting up to and over an hour for a table on weekends. Nonetheless, the food is good (though not by any means the best around) and the atmosphere is cheery enough to help relieve the annoyance of spending an hour waiting outside. Cons: wait, wait, wait more

It used to be my playground 1/6/2003

The brunch here is fabulous. However, my last experience was not pleasant. The staff was not friendly and looked annoyed when you attempted to get their attention. We waited 45 minutes to get a table. After being the last group waiting but the first people there we finally left without a meal and ate across the street. It was extremely disappointing. Pros: wonderful food, inexpensive Cons: crowded, small dinning area, bad for large groups more
