Empty but Good 4/30/2012

I'm very late at this review and they place has closed down but I figured I'd write the review anyways. I went here in April 2010 and I had my 23rd birthday here. I made reservations which were clearly unnecessary since the place was completely empty. I had a group of seven friends total with me and we all enjoyed it. We got appetizers, entrees and desserts and none of us had a problem with anything there. Not to mention I'm a huge Lady Gaga fan and they played her music the whole time which definitely gives it a higher scoring from me! I wish they place stayed in business. It was pricy and I hate to see so many bad reviews about it when I enjoyed it. But if they were still in business... I'd go back! more

what happened? 1/14/2010

i knew restaurant was cut in half after renovation - only 2nd floor now. 2 girls in restaurant , fully dressed for an alaskan snow ball fight, upon getting menus , we were told that chef david burke menu no longer available. We got up and left. Pros: non - we left Cons: no girls, no bikinis, no david bruke more

Terrible, terrible service 11/26/2008

I decided to try this restaurant on a Sunday night to see what all the fuss is about. Obviously, about the girls in bikinis. That's where it ends. My boyfriend and I had to wait for five minutes to get seated when the restaurant was almost empty (it was towards the end of the night). The manager told us he is waiting for the hostess to seat us. The hostess was nowhere to be found. Why couldn't the manager seat us? I thought that's part of his job.\r \r Since it's Broadway, the 20% gratuity is included so our server could not care less about providing us with at least a minimum of service. Unfriendly and unwelcoming, she looked like she has been partying/drinking/screwing around all night. No bread, no glass of water, no busboys at our table. Across from us was sitting a family with children - they definitely were in the wrong place!\r \r I was completely dissatisfied with my Hawaiian Tropic experience. The food is good and the decor is great but the service is extremely bad - will not come back. Pros: good food, great decor Cons: horrible service, bad management more

Good food, good sights 9/11/2008

I went here for dinner a couple weeks ago, not expecting much from the food. Not only were the women very pretty but my meal was excellent. The service was top notch and we had a great time. I'd recommend it for NYers as well as tourists. Pros: Food, Service, Girls more

Most tourist trappy place in the city. Avoid. 9/5/2008

Checked this place out with two friends a few months ago. Three guys, burger and one beer each, bill over $100. Food burned, service awful, i.e.- staff more concerned with b.s.'ing with each other than asking if we wanted anything else other than the bill, atmosphere felt too clubby. Really not worth stopping here. Save your hundred bucks and go get a full dinner with decent service and food.\r \r Pros: Location (?) Cons: Service (no question), food, pricing more

I Should Have Asked for his Phone Number!?!?!?!?! 8/6/2008

So I was on my way to Hawaiian Tropics with my girlfriends last Friday, when this complete hottie came up to me.... He told me, he saw me and had to meet me... but I was too intoxicated to take his number down. Instead, I told him to meet me at hawaiian tropics and then there was a mob of people there... \r That was sooo stupid! Well hottie if you happen to read this, send me a message! \r Ohh yeah btw I love Hawaiian Tropics, I will be back there again this Friday.\r Cathy<333333 more

Hawaiian Tropic Zone! 7/9/2008

I've been here twice, once for lunch and once with friends after work. The food is very good, especially considering the touristy midtown location. Of course, it's not all about the food here. Beautiful girls are all about and the female friends we were with did not feel uncomfortable at all and had a really good time just eating, drinking and socializing. Defintiely would go back. Pros: Food, Atmosphere more

Bad Service 6/30/2008

So, I went to the Tropic with a friend who had been before, and had LOVED it. Well, I don't know what she loved and she left wondering if we went back to the right place. We were meeting up with a group who was getting bottle service, which should mean that we don't pay cover. WRONG!! The bouncers were rude, as was the management. We ended up having to pay cover, but oh well, it happens. The place looked nice, as did the staff...but most clubs in New York look nice and have a great looking staff. The staff here was stuck up, tardy and overall very rude. Save the money you'd spend here and head to the Village somewhere. Pros: Theme Cons: Service, bouncers, spendy drinks more

Poor service, bad crowd 6/30/2008

Thought I would check it out over the weekend, and despite high hopes was fairly disappointed. My biggest issues were the service and the lack of pretty girls (besides the staff, obviously). Expect to pay a bunch, have some drinks, and leave somewhat underwhelmed. Food is apparently tasty though, but I'm not one to eat at night clubs. Pros: Food?; decor Cons: Service; crowd; prices more

Amazing, amazing, amazing 6/10/2008

I absolutely LOVE this place. It's great for people of any age and gender. The food is very delicious. The Filet Mignon blew me away. I love the girls... VERY BEAUTIFUL and SO SWEET! The pageants are a lot of fun. Voting for my favorite girl was the worst part of my night since they were all hot. My girlfriend and I came here and had a great time. There were several parties going on upon my arrival but the service was impeccable never the less. Seems like everybody who works there loves what they do and customers were definitely having a great time. Great for tourists and locals. Pros: Great food, Beautiful women, Excellent service Cons: Voting for my favorite girl was so hard! more

Who would have thought? 4/20/2008

Going to Hawaiian Tropic Zone for the first time, I had a preconceived notion that this would be another midtown theme restaurant.....but I was wrong. The space was well designed, the service was exceptional and the food by David Burke was above and beyond expectations. Of course, the girls are what get most of the attention but I'd like to say that the cuisine and service were the highlights for me. Highly recommended! Pros: Food, Service more

BAD SERVICE FROM THE BUSBOYS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 4/7/2008

The bikini clan waitresses were nice and very accomodating. Before I went, I read the other reviews that said how the busboys were rude and took the plate away quickly and to my surprise, that was exactly what happened. I guess they turn into a club at nite but they never said anything to us. WHILE I was 2 minute into eating my entree, they took my knife and other fork away and tried to take my dish and the 80% unfinished appetizers away before I said that I wasn't finished. They almost pretended like they didn't understand english....good try. They were constantly behind us and I think I purposefully slowed my eating down. I ordered the bass which was NOT fresh. I ended up sharing the chicken with my friend. The lollipop dessert was good but overall not good enough to ever come back or recommend. I hope they shut down soon. Cons: Bad food, rude busboys, Rushed more

Very Surprised 10/31/2007

Took some out of town guests here, was nervous about it being the typical Times Square Tourist trap, but had an awesome Sunday afternoon here watching football. Food was reasonably priced and delicious and the unlimited mimosa's definitely were a bonus. Our waitress was an absolute sweetheart, and ofcourse easy on the eyes. Pros: Service, Food, Price for the location, Mimosas Cons: Location more

AMAZING FOOD BY DAVID BURKE...BRAVO! 7/5/2007

LOVED IT!!!! The food is magnificent!!!! so far one of my favorite restaourants, my boyfriend and i stumeld upon it a few days ago and decided to give it a try. As you come in there are a buch of pretty girls in a bikin waiting to seat you. We cam on a great day and i was able to have a pre fix dinner for 28 dollars a steal for the amount ond quality of food....I found it cheesy to have a miss hawaiian tropics contest..but hey i am not a guy maybe they enjoyed it. What i did not like where the RUDE bus BOYS...i was at my last bite and a bus boy reached over my food to grab a palte...while my fork was aiming for my mouth, when they gave the brad they did it in a rude way....if you dont want to work there quit for god sakes!!!!! All in all food delicious, price deacent, girls nice, curtious and attentive..... suport staff SUCKSss!!!!! Pros: Food Cons: bus boy service more

Pretty Mediocre 4/15/2007

I tried the Hawaiian Tropic Zone in the same weekend I tried a few other Times Square ""theme"" restaurants, and frankly I wasn't impressed.\r \r I felt that the restaurant set out to attract wealthy visiting businessmen but instead got the guy that brings his wife to a strip club. Long story short, I didn't see a single group of young women in the place (that weren't being paid to be there), and the food was quite disappointing and expensive.\r \r The 30' video wall was pretty cool, but not cool enough for me to want to go back for the expensive and mediocre eats and drinks. Pros: Video Wall, Cons: Expensive (for the quality), Cheesy Concept more

I love this place - and yes, I'm female! 2/26/2007

I've been to this restaurant a couple of times since it opened and every time it's been great. I've never ever had a rude waitress or waiter and all have been very receptive when I made any special requests (no problem simply grilling fish and steaming veggies with no oil or butter - awesome for my diet). Yeah, the girls are in bikinis - so big deal. You see worse when you turn on primetime network television. The girls are pretty and hot, yes...but they all seem pretty down to earth too which does not intimidate me at all. And for single girls, going to Hawaiian Tropic Zone is like shooting fish in a barrel - it's full of guys! This fact really makes me think that the restaurant was really made for women, not men, and has kept me and my group of girlfriends coming back. You would have to be a real conservative with a stick up your butt not to have a good time here. Oh, and for David Burke's food, the prices are cheap!!! Pros: Great food, diet friendly, lots of male patrons! Cons: None! I love it more

Rude waitstaff, below average service 2/21/2007

My boyfriend and I along with one of my female friends went here for drinks one night. The waitress was very rude, and didnt pay any attention to us. She seemed to pay attention to all of the tables with just men who were flirting with her. We finally ordered drinks from her, and when they didn't arrive in a HALF HOUR, we decided to leave. I wouldn't go back if you paid me. more

Not just a pretty face 1/22/2007

Went here with a few friends after finding on Citysearch. I expected some pretty faces but we also liked the ambiance, convenient midtown location and the food was delicious. Not that we didn't enjoy the surroundings but I'd come back for the food alone. This is a very nice addition to the Times Square area Pros: ambiance, food, location more

Slow service, rude wait staff and average food 1/1/2007

I went to this restaurant twice, both with the same group of people due to its proximity to our office. All of us agreed that the service had definitely gone bad since our first visit to the restaurant. It took the wait staff 15 minutes to get our drink order, 15 minutes from that point to bring us our drinks. After we waited for about a total of 20 minutes for a simple bread basket and asked our waitress about it, she brushed off with the following response: ""OK. First, it was 10 minutes. And it's coming up."" It came in about 10 minutes.\r \r The waitress pretty much mocked us throughout the meal. NEVER going back. Cons: Horrible attitude of the wait staff more

fun and fabulous 11/14/2006

So....you walk into Hawaiian Tropic Zone knowing what you're coming in for. Women in bikinis and a bit of a zany ambiance and maybe some decent food. Well, the women are beautiful but nowhere near intimidating to this woman, the ambiance is a bit much for me, but the food is amazing. Yes you can have great food without women in bikinis, but you have to admit it makes for a fun addition to your meal. more
