I just got back from another fabulous massage at Haven Spa with Lara. I had been seeing a Physical Therapist for pain and restricted movement in my shoulder and not improving. I ...

I was introduced to Haven by a friend. I had heard many good things about the treatments. My waxing was great--but I was taken aback by the conditions. This Soho spa is not in th...

Vladimir is the best masseur in NYC! 3/12/2008

I happened upon Haven by accident two or so years ago...and more importantly, I happened upon Vladimir! As a woman with chronic neck and shoulder tension, this first meeting wound up changing my life! Vladimir uses exactly the right pressure. He is thorough and does not chat during the massage (n one wants to have a conversation while they're being massaged!). The real difference, too, is that he goes the extra step...for example, instructing you on exercises/stretches you can do to help your particular problem areas. When he suggested in our first meeting that I could benefit from regular massages, I listened. I've now been seeing Vladimir once every 4-6 weeks for about two years and I couldn't imagine not doing so. What would my neck feel like without Vladimir in my life!? Pros: Vladimir is the best masseur in NYC! Cons: The manicures/pedicures are no better (maybe even not as good) than what you get at any inexpensive nail salon in the city more

great wax, good massages 2/5/2008

I have been going here for bikini waxes forever. Love Monique, she is gentle fast and extremely thorough-- which is key! The basic bikini wax is very bare, which I like, almost a Brazillian at other places (in terms of what they take off). Also the prices are extremely reasonable (don't bother with the "special" wax, I really don't see a difference other than price). Have also gotten massages here, but have had mixed experiences with that. One girl (who has since left) gave me one of the best massages of my life, the others I've had have been got, but not amazing. I hear the same thing from friends (they had an amazing massage, but then the masseuse left). Don't know what that's about, but still recommend for the great waxing. more

Chatty therapist 1/6/2008

Went for a massage with my mother - "girls day out". My therapist Laura was just too chatty. Non-stop talking for the entire hour. I can't even remember how the massage was because she just kept talking. Even my mother who was in the room next door could hear her voice. Spoke to the front desk people about this and they just gave me a blank look. Avoid the talking massage therapist !!! Cons: Talking massage therapists more

Pampering at its best 11/19/2007

I've gone to Haven twice now; once for a full body massage and the other for the remedy facial. Their prices are comparable with other spas in NYC and I've not had any problems getting the appointment time, I wanted. The receptionists at the front were very nice and my appointments started at the scheduled time. There was minimal talking (which I like!!) with the esthetician--only at the beginning to ask me questions re: my usual skin care regimen and issues I wanted to address. She also suggested a scrub for my particular skin issue...though it was expensive, it's actually working, so it's worth the money. The massage therapist was very nice, but a bit chatty for my liking, but the massage was great! I went home without the usual knot I carry around in my neck. Pros: prompt service, courteous staff, variety of services Cons: pricey more

Avoid It 8/31/2007

I was expecting a pleasant experience based on what was writen on here and in other places. Unfortunetly, could not have been further from the truth. The environment was very sterile and I certainly felt it was not worth the cost. Walking into the spa and going back to the changing room (which is unisex) I had a feeling of cheapness and that I could have been in any spa in Bangkok. The massage itself was way to rough and the masuse used way to much oil. After the massage I could not wait to go home and shower to get the oil off. Plus, who wants to change in a tiny bathroom that is cold and cheap in feeling. Needless to say I would not reccomend this place, there are plenty of other places one can go for the price. Oh, one more thing, the next day I felt awful. My muscles were sore and I felt like I was coming down with a cold. Walked away completely dissapointed. Pros: Location Cons: Ambience, changing rooms, massage and general environment more

Haven = Heaven 8/16/2007

I stumbled upon Haven after moving to SoHo last year and what a wonderful surprise! They give a great spa-style manicures/pedicures -- relaxing, detail oriented, massaging your hands/calfs/feet and perfectly painting fingers/toes. Then they let you relax there as you dry on the comfy chairs. No rush to leave as in a nail salon. It's my new weekly summer pedicure stop! I've had one massage here and the masseuse was friendly and used just the right amount of pressure. The waiting room is relaxing. The staff are friendly and helpful. Pros: spa mani/pedis, ambience, great value Cons: none! more

Unorganized.. Very disappointing 6/14/2007

Heard great things about this place but, after changing into a robe and waiting 20 minutes for my massage my attitude quickly changed. The girl at the front desk apparently forgot about me and I had to walk to the front of the spa in a robe and slippers to ask where my massuse was... The massage started late and finished early and I was still charged full price. No comp, no discount, just a ton of shallow "I am so sorry"s. I wouldn't recomend this place even if my massage has gone smoothly... Very cheap feeling interior, kinda of loud (could hear dorrs slamming during the massage), and quite unorganized. With so many other great options in NYC, why waste your time here? more

Best facial 6/10/2007

One look at the flawless skin of my esthetician Stalina-a true facial pro-was enough to convince me of the facial's benefits.I will go back to her once a month as she'd told. more

Great Facial! 6/6/2007

I went in for my appt at 10am on a Sunday and I was helped immediately. Everyone was friendly and the place was absolutely spotless. I met my esthetician Kasia promptly at 10am. She was wonderful!! She seemed a bit cold at first, but she explained to me exactly what she was doing at the moment. After the facial was done, she recommended (no pushy sales pitch) what products I should use in order to keep my face in top-notch condition. She even took the time to write down directions as to what products to use. Of course, when I got to the counter to pay, they had a whole bunch of products waiting for me to purchase, but I told them I wasn't interested in purchasing any at the moment, and they just simply charged me for the facial. Definitely worth every minute of it. I will definitely go back. Pros: Nice ambiance, very clean and experienced esthetician. Cons: Expensive. more

Nice atmosphere, good services 1/13/2007

Haven is a nicely put together place. The atmosphere is soothing the minute you walk in. I've been going to Salina for facials and microdermabrasion. She knows what she's doing but can be pushy about products and rebooking with her. She's not as attentive as other estheticians I've been to, but ultimately my skin looks great. She's a little careless with microdermabrasion though. She speeds through it, which is not what I'm used to. Past estheticians have made multiple passes whereas Salina makes quick one-time strokes. For the price, I would expect more. A fine place, but still looking for something better. Pros: Professional, nice atmosphere Cons: Pricey more

Electrolysis service by Evelyn Oliveras 11/12/2006

Evelyn is amazing. Very gentle, efficient and timely. I enjoy all my sessions with her because she is so friendly and fun. The time spent just flies by. I highly recommend her. She professional, all the equipment is sanitary (disposable probes) and her technique is painless. Stop waiting! Go see Evelyn Oliveras at Haven!! more

beware of sales pitch overpriced foot renaissance lazy facialist 10/1/2006

i was expecting a spectular foot treatment instead got a bleeding overcut cuticle..... a facialist that didnt clear any of my skin troubles instead a sales pitch to buy the products......the front desk personnel very snotty DONT COME HERE more

Facial with Stalina 9/23/2006

If you go to Haven for a facial make sure that you request Stalina. I used to have lots of clogged pores and acne. I went to Haven for a facial with Stalina and she made it her mission to fix my skin. She has a gift for knowing exactly what a person's skin needs in order to become clear. The texture and quality of my skin has completely changed since I started going to Stalina. I have been getting facials from her for about a year now. I'm really happy with the results. more

life-changing massage 6/22/2006

It may not be possible to share my experience of a massage by Vladimir in words. You really have to experience it. The man is a healer. Vladimir knows bodies. Intuitive and strong (though no pain - which is amazing since, at times, he's going so deep into muscle, tissue - I lay there wondering why it doesn't hurt!) - he listens to your body; it's not a scripted session - Vladimir concentrates completely on you and finds his way to what your body needs to feel at ease and pliable. An hour and a half goes by in a languid blink. I've had massages before and they have been pleasurable experiences. This goes beyond that, it stays with you, in you, like the release after a good therapy session - only Vladimir does the work for you. For someone like me, who fragments herself in a state of constant activity, overlapping appointments and projects, I need a place like Haven, and the helping hands of Vladimir to focus on what I neglect, remind me of what balance can feel like, and gel me back together. Side note: the receptionists are sweet and attentive. Pros: relaxing atmosphere, pleasant reception, quiet Cons: not a one more

Great service but get ready to BUY BUY BUY 2/7/2006

Received a gift certificate for facial, manicure, and massage. The treatments were on time and I enjoyed my 3 hours at Haven. When I checked out, there was over $100 worth of product they wanted me to purchase. Are you for real? I would have booked future services with Haven until they tried to squeeze more money from me. Pros: Relaxing, Staff Cons: Sales Sales Sales, CoEd Locker Room more

i'm still going after 5 years! 2/2/2006

I've been getting facials from Stalina at Haven for over 5 years and i won't go anywhere else! She does more for my skin than any dermatologist has ever done. She is professional, extremely skilled, and honest. I have recommended many people to her over the years - and they are still with her as well! more

Great massage but... 1/11/2006

Loved my massage and the therapist was great. Right pressure without digging in with elbows and leaving me bruised. Should use heated oil and table warmer during winter months. Also room smells like old oil. Did not like sales pitch to buy future sessions and beauty products that are overpriced. Pros: Massage Therapist Cons: Sales Pressure more

The Bad Overweighs the Good 1/8/2006

Every time I go to Haven... It's always SOMETHING... 1) Received a gift certificate for a FRENCH manicure/pedicure WITH gratuity. I didn't know the gift certificate was for a french mani/pedi so I chose one color AND paid gratuity. 2) Front desk is not only incompetent but EXTREMELY rude - My appointment was made TWO hours late and not with the specific waxer I asked for... I decided to grab something to eat, wait for an opening, then come back ONLY to be greeted by another waxer who wasn't the regular woman I go to. Though, Haven's price is great... I can not take the lack of service. Pros: Inexpensive, Atmosphere, Brazilian Wax Cons: Front desk, Front desk, Front desk more

The Perfect REMEDY! 9/30/2005

I went in for a facial this past week with STALINA, and she was fantastic! I couldn't believe the things she taught me about my skin. I went in expecting just a regular facial and she added on microderabration and it all cost about $200. Money well spent! Everyone said I was glowing! I love this place, and its in a great location I was able to meet my friends for a drink at Merc Bar right across the street. I'll be back! Pros: laid back, comfy, inexpensive more

DON'T BELIEVE THE FACIAL HYPE!!! 9/26/2005

If you're getting a facial be prepared to have scabs on your face for a remainder of the week. I have very normal skin, no acne problems and minimal white/black heads. I've had a facial twice at this place and only went back the second time b/c I had a gift certificate, thinking perhaps it was the facialist. Twice I was wrong and twice I walked out looking BUSTED! I've gotten plenty of facials before at many different places and always walked out glowing. Not when I left Haven. Also, if you're looking for the ultimate spa experience look elsewhere. There is no LADIES locker room, and no robe or comfy slippers to put on. Be prepared to hang your clothes on the back of a door in the room your put in. I can forgo the spa experience if the facialist was worth it. Not here! more
