Great salesman 2/17/2009

I got terrific advice and pricing from Luiggi, one of the salemen. He is very knowledgeable about the real estate market and really helped me out. No hard sell. Give them a call. Pros: good salesman more

Well Informed & Knowledgeable Staff 2/9/2009

I happened to walk by Gringer & Sons and was taken in by the appliances in the window. I rent in the city and am not currently in the market for appliances. However I like to window shop regardless. Once inside looking around at the latest innovations, I couldn't help to overhear someone who works there speaking to some customers. He was very well informed & knowledgeable. I learned things in 5 minutes in the store that had escaped me my entire life. For example, don't keep apples and tomatoes in the refrigerator. Apparently these produce release a gas, which, as I now know, could affect the odors in the cooler. Hmmm. Now, how do I dismantle my dingy refrigerator with out my landlord assuming sabotage? Wish list for 2009. Pros: Great Looking Appliances, Well Informed & Knowledgeable Staff more

WE ARE ALWAYS HERE FOR YOU!! 2/7/2009

After reading most of the reviews, I have to disagree with all of them. Gringerandsons has been around for more than 90 years. Their service is beyond belief and the boss works on overtime to make the customers happy . There is no other than the BOSS, Michael. If you ever need to get help, go straight to him. He knows how to make a customer happy. A repeat customer is his business. Word of mouth is his business. We are all going through troubled, hard economic times and feel it tremendously. The Boss, Michael will always be there for you, each and every time. His clients consist of many prominent people and they are all satsified. The writing is on the wall. No one is every unhappy and if there is a problem it gets fixed ASAP!!!! Please try to understand that The BOSS, Michael, is a businessman and can fulfill your orders. I mean after 90 years of business they are still going strong. I mean to say something must be right about them. Please, if there is something that needs to be attended to , please confer with either the BOSS, MICHAEL or Marvin.......afterall they are always there to serve your needs. Thank you for reading the truth. Pros: oreder here for the best prices and salesmen more

Do NOT shop at Gringer, no matter what!!! 12/30/2008

Oh how I wish I had read the reviews before I called them!! I was so happy to finally have a need to buy from Gringer & Sons..I was delighted to us a Mom and Pop shop, and especially happy that Gringer & Sons had stood the test of time and had been in business for almost a hundred years. It is by far, the WORST customer service I have ever encountered. "Alan" the owner? Manager? One of the "SONS"??? Was dismissive and arrogant, and has never heard the expression "the customer is always right".... do NOT, and I repeat, do NOT, buy anything from them, unless you want a big &%$#& headache! Never again!!! Pros: none Cons: arrogant and dismissive staff more

speak w forked tongue or Misrepresent 11/19/2008

We did a major renovation and used them for appliances. WHAT A MISTAKE. The blatant lies on best prices that cannot be beat were astounding. This after showing the sales manager the actual e mail he wrote w a better price. Then the BS hitting one up for inflated installation charges. more

Worst customer service 9/26/2008

Please go somewhere else, any place else other than Gringer and Sons. There is no customer service after they take your money. If there is any problems and there were many- they do not follow up or try to resolve anything. I have never been spoken to by a manager of a store like I have had at this place. When I spoke to the owner - it was like talking to a brick wall. I was not sure if they were capable of solving problems or just didnt care - I think it was a combination of both. Pros: In manhattan Cons: The empolyees and owner more

If you want to be frustrated by idiots then go here!! 8/4/2008

These people are imbeciles. I asked them about portable AC's so they asked me "what do you mean by portable?" I mean, where do you find these employees? Off a boat somewhere I presume! And a boat full of idiots at that! Then I got hung up on while asking another question. This happened to me on two different occasions. You only get to ask one question on the phone, then you are hung up on. If the owner of this store gets to read this, do yourself a favor and hire competent people to work for you before you go out of business. I may have been calling for an inexpensive item but I have top of the line appliances in my home (sub zero, wolf and asko) and I will never buy anything from you and will tell anyone I know to stay away from your store unless they want to be aggravated by your moronic employees. Good Luck! Pros: didn't make it that far... Cons: rude employees that avoid having to work. more

Open letter from Gringers Manager 2/2/2008

Dear Patrons: It has been three years since we have spoken, and the last time I wrote something here it was an apology for the poor reviews we accumulated prior to 12-07. It caused our rating to plummet from 4 stars to 1 star and frankly it was quite embarrasing. But through some hard work and your helpful critiques we have been rewarded by our clients and are once again showing a 3 star review overall. This time I am thanking you, instead of apologizing. Yet we still have the occassional 1 star and for this I am saying we are truly sorry. The gentleman who was mad at me for denying to take his credit card after saying I would, is right. I should have taken the deal. Doing so would have cost me money, but I still should have done it. I regret that decision. The person who said we took their money and did not deliver their product is also correct. We do take deposits. We have to in order to remain open. But we should have not taken all of their money without ascertaining if the product was in stock. Once again I am very sorry for our overzealousness. Should you wish to return to us I promise that experience will not happen again. In closing I would like to say that we here at Gringer and sons do not claim we are perfect. And from some of these reviews we know we are humbly imperfect. But we try; honestly, and with a moral constitution that has kept us serving NY's five boros and beyond for 91 years. Stick with us. We can only get better. Thank you for allowing me to speak with you on this forum. Louis Giogaia Store Manager Gringer and Sons. more

don't shop there! 11/12/2007

We bought a high-end dishwasher (paid $1600 upfront) with them on 15 August 07. It is now 13 November (that's right, 3 months later) and we are still waiting on the door panel and the extended warranty. Beautiful promises were made at the time of purchase (will be delivered within 3 days etc) but nothing happened. I had to call them every day, I was shuffled around on the phone from nitwit to nitwit, every time a more fantastic story was dished up. (For example: Everyone at Bosch (the manufacturer) is on holidays for a month.) After creating a terrible scene with much yelling, the dishwasher was finally delivered and installed (an extra $200, without tip) but without door panel. This means we have to manually hold the door down while loading the dish washer. Now, 2.5 months later, the door panel has finally arrived in their store. First I was told it would be delivered to our house. This didn't happen. Then they would come install it on Tuesday. I had to ring in the morning to find out at what time. (Because it's true, I really have nothing better to do then wait for their installer to show up... ) When I called, the sales guy had clearly forgotten about it. He rang me back with a new story, shifting the blame yet again to some unnamed third party. The new promise is that the installation will happen tomorrow. We'll see. The extended warranty I so foolishly purchased also has not arrived yet. I called and told them but I expect it will take another couple of phonecalls before that detail is finalised. Given their level of service (ie, non-existing) I really hope this dishwasher doesn't ever break down because I don't think I can bear to deal with this shop again. If you don't believe my story, I invite you to check out a few review sites, it is unanimous: don't shop there! PS: The salesperson I dealt with is called Amaury Gutierrez, so avoid him like the plague, but given the negative reviews elsewhere I suppose they are all bad. Pros: local in Manhattan, not chain owned. Cons: poorest customer service ever, not worth the trouble, not especially good pricing. more

Gringer and Sons appliances 5/17/2007

We ordered three air conditioners to be delivered and installed. The price was right for the units but they charged us $80 to install each unit which took all of five minutes. The units were to be delivered one day and installed the next day. The units were delivered to our apartment building and the installers came the next day..They brought up the three units and informed us that one of the units was the wrong size. They called the store to inform them. One of the units they did install was missing the remote control and the instruction booklet. Both units they did install were put in on an angle as if they were in such a hurry that they couldn't be bothered to straighten them out. We called the store to find out what was being done about the third unit and the installers left without telling us. The boxes and packing material were left strewn about the apartment. The salesperson we dealt with originally was not in that day. The assistant manager (Lewis) became so rude and insulting over the phone, telling me that I was a liar. That they did tell us they were leaving and that he would not talk to me anymore and hung up the phone. I tried to reach the store numerous times and he repeatedly hung up the phone. The installers left the incorrect unit downstairs and the building told me that they would not continue to store it. I called the next day to speak with our salesperson (Marvin) and was left hanging on the phone. I called several more times and left messages the following day. I then called American Express and told them not to honor the charge to Gringer. These are not responsible people and couldnt care less about the customer once they get the order. I have never written a bad review before, but would not want anyone to go throught this experience with them. more

Terrible Service, a nightmare for consumers 4/28/2007

I should have read these reviews prior to placing an order with them. When I spoke with them in the store and on the phone, they were quite nice and accomodating. However, when our delivery time got closer, they were a pain to deal with. Every time we called, they'd have to take our name and number, apparently our order number didn't mean much to them (they're living in the old world). Then on our delivery date, no delivery! We called and they informed us it had been moved to the day after and nobody had ever called us. Then on delivery day, they delivered the wrong model! Sheesh. When we spoke with Lewis, the store manager, he apologized and was quite nice. But he stated the next earliest delivery would be the following week as they only deliver to Brooklyn from W-F. So we wait around, and on Wed, they deliver the right model but in the wrong color! Finally got delivery two days later and then another day for installation (as for some reason, they're the only company who can't deliver and install the same day). So we were put out 5 days waiting for them. Definitely will not deal with them again. Some of their competitors are pricier, but I'll take service over hassles any day. As an architect friend informed us, they're used to working with contractors and architects, so if a delivery is delayed, they just drop it off at the job site and it doesn't matter. They have absolutely no regard for consumers, regardless of how much money you spend. Cons: Poor customer service, delayed delivery more

Rude.nasty ,insulting sales men. 3/12/2007

I had two experiences with Gringer, both bad. The first one was when I went with my son to buy a dishwasher. We saw a floor model that they said was new .just dirty. When it was being installed our plumber said it had been used ,there was water in it and it leaked. When we complained they said we didn't install it properly.we finally convinced them that it was the diswasher ,not us,we had to go there , pick out a different model which cost more .They weren't pleasant and didn't apologize. When I wanted to buy two major appliances I thought I would go to a local store.Foolishly I went back to Gringer. I don' t think they remembered me. They were rude, nasty, and overpriced. more

terrible service 3/10/2007

we dropped a bomb of money at gringers. When we were ready for delivery a good 6 months after ordering, they rang to tell us one item would be three weeks late, two weeks after our contractor would be gone. I negotiated free installation. The day it was meant to arrive, the called to say it would be another day, and they claimed to know nothing about installation. The next day the installer arrived before the delivery. After numerous complaints to the manager, where he denied again knowing about the messed up delivery and the free installation ...we finally got the fridge installed. This store is expensive, it may have the brands, but the services are abysmal. more

Save yourself the pain!!! 9/30/2006

While they carry high quality products, they DO NOT provide the service to match! After calling around to numerous suppliers in New York, Gringer was the only store to claim they had the appliance we wanted in stock. We were quite surprised however on delivery day when they showed up at 8:00 AM without a call and delivered a different product! Apparently, they "realized" they did not have what we wanted in stock and replaced it with an alternate item!! (Of lesser quality and value). After a ring to the supplier we were told "No stores in NY had the product as it was not available for 2 weeks". After being openly lied to, countless phone calls, and being left on hold for more than 25 minutes on three separate occasions we are furious and still do not have our money or the product we ordered 5 weeks later. This is a dishonest business. Cons: DISHONEST! more

Unrelieable, poor service 6/13/2006

Read the first posted review and that is our experience as well - do not return phone calls, failure to show up for delivery, incompetent installation. Once you pay for your purchases, they disappear ----Do not buy from them... more

Nothing Special 3/5/2006

I wish I had read the other review before I bought from them. I couldn't agree more with the other review. more

Don't even go in the door!!!! 11/9/2005

Very irresponsive, do not return phone calls. They misinfomred us three times about delivery schedule. You cannot reach your origional sales perso. If you ever purchase anything from there, make sure to manage your own expectations. more
