It doesn't even deserve 1 star 1/14/2011

The service at this place was nonexistent. I don't know if the waiter forgot my order or the kitchen forgot to make my food but I waited 10 minutes for my pork buns while the rest of my table got their appetizers quickly. Then the server brought the main entrees to the table. Once again, I was left waiting for my food. After 20 mins of waiting and informing the waiter that I didn't receive my Chicken Clay Pot, I wasn't hungry anymore. By then, the waiter was nice enough to inform me that my food was coming out. Sir, everyone else at my table was almost done with their food and I'm not hungry anymore. Most restaurants wouldn't have charged me for the food BUT they charged me full price for the pork buns and the bowl of rice (which I only ordered to have with my chicken). $13 for the pork buns and $3 for the bowl of rice, which I only ate a few bites of while waiting for my clay pot. I approached the waiter asked him why I had to pay for the pork buns if it was part of my prix fixe and I only got half the food I ordered. The manager (at least I think it was since he didn't bother to introduce himself) said that they were already losing money offering the prix fixe just to get people into the restaurant. I don't know how that is my problem. He should talk to his accountant about that. If you are losing money on the lunch prix fixe, then why bother offering it? Anyways, this individual was extremely condescending and neither the ""manager"" or waiter bothered to even say sorry for the mixup or delay. I think the situation could have been better handled. A simple apology would be a start. more

Horribly overpriced 11/21/2010

As you can see by my username, this is the first food review I've ever posted. I have lived in New York for 3+ years now and have grown accustomed to overpriced meals, but this was the worst I've ever experienced. Everything on the menu is overpriced, but $50 for the chili crab is insane. They should be ashamed. more

Gotta order the fatty dog. 6/17/2010

BRING EARPLUGS and be prepared to shout 3/27/2010

It was so loud that we had to tell the waitstaff to turn the volume down. The first attempt didn't get anything done. The second time, the staff turned it up even louder. When the food arrived, we told the waiter we were leaving because it was too loud and nothing was being addressed. Suddenly, money spoke louder than their sound system. The bare walls and uncarpeted floors just act as amplifiers. I wish another restaurant can come up with the caliber and quality of their southern style chili crab (it's a very sweetened Johore/Singapore in flavor). Pros: Great tasting, almost like grandma's Cons: 1.5 servings hardly make a family style platter more

GREAT COCKTAILS! 8/4/2009

Me and my girlfriends came by after the steely dan concert the cocktails were amazing. Really big bar. I didnt have a chance to try the food but everything looked really good. I can't wait to see another show at the beacon so i can come back. Pros: fun bar great drinks more

fun times 7/22/2009

I never write on these things but this place was really a great time. Our waiter just ordered for the table and the food was really amazing. we had this one dish that looked like some kinda dinosaur rib it was crazy definately messy. This place is a great new addition to the neighborhood. Pros: great atmasphere, helpful staff more

Fatty Crab Rocks! 7/11/2009

Finally made it to the UWS restaurant for a friends birthday. We had a great time. The servers were very helpful and recommended some great dishes. chili crab was soooo good and spicy, probably the messiest food ever! Cant wait to make it back. Pros: great food and cocktails Cons: hard to get a reservation more

Great flavors, fun vibe 7/10/2009

Heard a lot about this place and decided to finally give it a try. Was nervous because had heard that everything was spicy and I don't always love the spice. Went with their suggestions and LOVED it! Duck was my fav: sweet, juicy and really awesome rice underneath (navigate the chiles). Also, pork and watermelon: funky combo but weirdly works . Will bring out-of-towners here for the unique atmosphere and flavors. Want to check out their brunch in the future. more

Best Bar in hood 7/6/2009

Downtown vibe that works! Cool music, fun bar and the most interesting menu around. The UWS tide has turned... Pros: Chili Crab and specialty cocktails! Cons: Come loud and proud more

great find 6/2/2009

Last night walking around the neighborhood stumbled upon this place that I recently read about. Seemed like a great place to hang out. Good music (little cheesy but fun). Me and my wife hung at the bar and had a great tequila drink while we waited for a table. Food was outstanding i think the duck was my favorite. service was different than at most restaurants but i thought the overall experience was pretty cool. I think this is a great place to hang in the neighborhood cant wait to get back. Pros: great food more

had fun 5/27/2009

had dinner at fatty crab over the holiday weekend overall just a really great experience. The menu was very similar to the other location but seemed like it had a few new things. the whole fish was off the chains! cant wait to get back maybe this time i'll remember more of the evening. cocktails rock Pros: fun vibe , great food, strong drinks Cons: very busy more

Wow!! 5/27/2009

I had dinner there the other night and had the best time. The food is fantastic, the music is loud but that's why I like it and the staff is a lot of fun and could answer any question i had about the food. This place isn't for everyone, but if you want to have a fun time, eat great food, drink great booze than check it out!!! Pros: Awesome Food Cons: Is too awesome possible? more

bangin son! 5/27/2009

I love this place!!! I am so happy that the UWS finally has a place to eat that is not just for the silver-haired set. The vibe at Fatty (as we now affectionately refer to it) is layed back with intensely knowledgeable staff, that can break down the ingredients of any dish you've ordered in a moments time. It's hard to believe, but the pork buns ARE actually better than momofuku. The rest of the menu is as well. I've never had a bad dish in three visits. Even the bokchoy is simple but genius. The chilli crab crab is a must!!!! it's pricey, but try picking up some dungeness crabs and cooking em for your foodie friends and pay just as much for half as good.! All in all, you can""t get this style of food at this quality anywhere in the city. Did I mention all the pork, and chicken come from sustainable, natural, local farms! I hope this place stays forever!!!... Straight bangin son!!!! Pros: great food, great music, great atmosphere Cons: no takeout menu more

Some people.... 4/23/2009

Its like a party in here! I heard one of the tables next to me ask the waiter to turn down the freakin music. Im sure he wanted something other than The Cold War Kids. But it was Friday nite at like 9:30!! WTF?? The food was crazy good tho! i got kinda drunk and think i had some pork buns (better then momofuku) and a crazy mango salad and the crab!! WOW...After i gave in and really started digging into the dish i truly got what was going on here...This street food is meant to be messy and flavorful and loud and all that!! Bring it on Fatty Crab!! Pros: Original, Cool service Cons: Old people more

Hot spicy food, cool hip atmosphere 4/17/2009

Good lord! the UWS needed some place like this! The food is spicy and unusual and the vibe is laid-back and rock and roll. FYI malaysian food is spicy and salty, that's what it is, so if you don't like salt and spice, this place is not for you. And if you are partial to cheesy ""elevator music"" with your dinner you wont find that here either. But if you want to try something completely different from everywhere else in the UWS, head on over to fatty crab and enjoy! Pros: good food and rock n' roll more
