Best

Love the quality, my favorites are the carrot cake, mint chocolate, and strawberry short cake. A bit pricey but worth the indulgence.

Worst

Anyone who thinks these are the best cupcakes in town probably also rates Hostess at the top of the list. Pros: Good coffee Cons: Skip the cakes

Delicious coffee, great wi-fi and comfy tables 5/27/2007

I live in the neighborhood, so I'm a little biased, but I can honestly say that the wi-fi's fantastic (and free), coffee's yummy and the cupcakes are divine (I just had a carrot cake cupcake and raved about it to my wife). Everyone who I've taken there seems to love it as well -- hope to see you in Madrona soon! more

The coffee is yummy! 11/27/2006

Cupcake Royale attracts a range of people from 20 somethings with their laptops to moms with kids. The cupcakes look fun with a range of icing colors. I was disappointed with the taste of the cupcakes. I have made better ones at home with store bought mix. The cupcakes are about the size of what you might make at home and at $2 bucks a pop are not worth it to me. The coffee is what draws me in with the standard espresso fair. Cupcake Royale serves Cafe Verite coffee which has a nice strong flavor. more

So sweet! 9/2/2006

I love the way these cupcakes look. I could stare at them all day. I have yet to actually finish one, as they are so darn sweet. They have exciting icing flavors such as lavendar and orange, but the cake bases are stock chocolate and vanilla. This is a fun, hip dessert spot. more

All that - and a parking ticket! 3/30/2006

Okay so I decided to see what all the hype was about and took my daughters to Cupcake Royale in Ballard a couple of weeks ago. When I got there I was delighted to find a parking spot right in front. I wont make excuses but I didnt pay the meter thinking I would be in and out in less than 5 minutes. Well.. I was in and out in 5 minutes as planned.. only to find a $39 parking ticket attached to my windsheild! I could not believe it.. They must have been hiding in the bushes!!! With that said the cupcakes were a hit with the girls (and my wallet). They are ready to go back. Just be weary of the parking situation as that whole street is paid parking. more

Frost Me 3/29/2006

Yummy, colorful cupcakes stare at your from behind the glass at Cupcake. These delicious desserts come in all different kinds of cakes and frostings. Alex and I love the frosting here, which is so creamy and just plain ole tasty. The cupcake in itself can be a bit dry, and it's easy to get overloaded on sugar if you try to eat an entire one by yourself. But boy, is it worth it. My favorite is the lemon cupcake, which comes with a lemondrop on top. I haven't been able to get Alex to experiment beyond the chocolate cupcake. Why ruin a good thing that's working? more

Hard to get a table at Cupcake Royale 2/23/2006

The tables along the window seat four, but they are always occupied by singles on their laptops, so you inevitably have to steal chairs and squeeze four at one of the tiny round tables. Their cupcakes aren't as big as they used to be, but they are still just as expensive. They sometimes are a little stale, but their icing flavors are fun. I like the ones with lavender icing and the ones they do around holidays (like the gingerbread cupcakes and minty cupcakes). There were only three or four types to choose from the last time I went, which was disappointing. Be sure to get coffee or tea to cut the sweetness because the icing is some of the sugariest stuff I've ever eaten. more

Kids and Adults love them 1/30/2006

Cupcake Royale is by far the best place to get your cupcakes. They are incredibly delicious, in fact I might use them for my wedding. Just make sure to buy them day of your event as they can dry up. more

Cupcakes is all they do.. 1/30/2006

Well, there are many great places to get cupcakes, but it is kind of amazing to see folks who *only* do cupcakes. These are huge and tasty. The kids actually like the "mini-cupcakes" better than the massive ones. There is also a nice coffee shop there too. more

I'm drooling right now. 9/21/2005

Really one cannot understand how great these cupcakes are until you have had one- then you will never forget it and you will find yourself seeking them out. That's right, cupcakes, you will love them once again. more

Cupcakes even better than you remember them! 9/12/2005

As a Ballard resident I was very happy when Cupcake Royal and Cafe Verite opened on Market Street. I love a good cupcake and these are fantastic. They come in white or chocolate cake and have a choice of icing flavors. My favorite (hands down) is chocolate cake with mint frosting. YUM. They also have babycakes (tiny cupcakes) in case the big ones are too much for you but they only come in the vanilla frosting (Why???). A definite must-try. more

The icing icing rocks! 9/9/2005

The icing is delicious. Not your grocery store mix of Crisco, sugar and food coloring. I find the cake to be a dry, then again compared to the butter in the frosting everything seems dry. Why no cakes? On two occasions I wanted a cake with their frosting, but had to resort to buying dozens of cup cakes...which adds up fast at $2 a pop. more

Best. Cupcakes. ever. 9/9/2005

I think the first time I discovered Cupcake Royale, I put on ten lbs. Once you have had one of these cupcakes, you cannot get enough. They taste perfectly homemade--the cake is the exact right consistency and the frosting is to die for. The mint-buttercream frosting is a definite favorite in my house. more

The best sugar-induced coma available 8/30/2005

These cupcakes rock! They are super sweet, but oh so yummy. The only one I haven't loved was the lavendar-frosted one. But maybe I'm just no fan of eating lavendar flavor. Otherwise, tasty goodness indeed! more

Rockin' cakes 7/19/2005

Verite Coffee and Cupcake Royale rocks! 2 locations in Madrona & Ballard. Yummy butter cake and chocolate cake with butter-cream frosting in tons of flavors are sure to please your office gathering. It was a hit at my birthday! Personally, I’m a big fan of the classic butter cake with either pink or coconut frosting. more

Cupcakes are the BEST 10/6/2004

I've had Magnolia Bakery cupcakes in NYC and I still think the cupcakes found at Verite (Cupcake Royale) are superior-particularly their white cake with buttercream frosting and coconut. The cake is nice and light and so is the frosting- sometimes there is too much frosting, but let's be honest- is there every too much frosting? The cupcakes and the cupcake wear (great t-shirts for adults and kids) make Verite worth a stop. They also have yummy panini sandwiches and coffee drinks. You can now find a second location on Market st in Ballard! more
