I was a satisfied regular at Kiku until new owners decided to redecorate and shake-up the menu. The old Kiku used to offer above average food in very generous portions at a great price.
Sadly, the new Kiku seems to serve up average food that does not distinguish itself in any way from from the myriad of other options in the U district.
Considering how many fantastic places there are to eat in Seattle, I would not go out of my way to visit Kiku.

I know steak has become popular because of the almighty atkins diet...but this restaurant is just ok. The Judy's Book team went to the restaurant to celebrate the closing of the Series A financing. We ordered our drinks and the waitress proceeded to accidentally spill two glass of wine and one glass of beer across an entire side of the table. She was sincerely apologetic ....but it colored our view of service at the restaurant. I ordered the steak salad and that was pretty good....in general, that's how I'd characterize the food -- pretty good. Not bad, not great.

We hit the Flying Fish on Saturday night after indulging in our fair share of martinis. Not wanting anything too heavy, we walked down 1st Avenue and decided to try the place.
We started with yet another cocktail and ordered up a series of salads and entrees. One item I highly recommend: the goat cheese salad. Very tasty.
I also went for the Thai crab cake, while one of the members of our party went for the Salmon crab cake. While appetizing, the Salmon crab cake was killer. Another thumbs up. Everyone commented on how good their particular selection was, so all in all a very good experience on the food side.
If you're a wine afficianado (I'm not), this might be worthy if only for the sheer magnitude of their offering. The wine list is so complete it looks like the fine print on some sort of legal document. Surely something on the list is good, though I couldn't make a suggestion.
The service was good, if somewhat a bit snooty (in Seattle?!! What's up with that?) The ambiance was solid, though. It was sufficiently lighted, rather than the depths of darkness some places try to impart on you. The restaurant is very open, with a full bar running through the heart of the place.
It's Belltown so it's a bit spendy, but it's certainly worthwhile relative to the other places downtown.

Ghastly expensive seafood, of fair at best quality. A true gouge-em high end chain restaurant. While old and petrified, McCormick and Schmicks is always better and always fresh. The 7 buck fries in a previous review are not a joke. Belongs in Bellevue where people wouldn't know the difference or care about the prices.

Coastal Seafood is a hoppin brunch and dinner restaurant on the quiet side of capitol hill. Weekend brunches (or blunches to the regulars) are packed, but the food is good all the time. Every three months the restaurant focuses on a different coastal cuisine. The funky art on the walls is local and generally available for purchase. There is a patio in back for the warmer months, but even the tables inside have a very light airy feel. Servings are huge, so don't over order. The wait on weekends can be long, but there are plenty of interesting shops nearby to keep you busy while you wait.

This restaurant on University Ave in Seattle has proven to be a great little restaurant. I go to their buffet for lunch on a semi-regular basis and think the food is quite good by Seattle Indian food standards. The decor isn't great and it's neither cheap nor expensive --I go there because the food is good. Worth going if you like indian food.

I'm from the east coast and I must admit that one of my complaints about Seattle has been the lack of good lunch spots. While Quiznos is simply a fast food sub shop -- I think they do that pretty well. They have more selection than Subway -- and aren't as cheap. Nonetheless, it's a decent place for a quick bite to eat.

Jai Thai used to be my favorite Thai restaurant in Seattle. After being an exchange student in Thailand years ago, I had fallen in love with the food. When I moved to Seattle I was surprised to see so many Thai restaurants, and extremely disappointed to taste so much sugar in all the dishes. Jai Thai used to not overdose their dishes with sugar but have unfortunately now bowed to the Seattle taste preference and their food has suffered. It's still a pretty tasty choice, but not what it used to be.

Upon arrival neither acknowledged or seated for several minutes, plenty of staff but all were more interested in sitting at a bar talking and drinking than taking care of customer service. Too many places with as good or better food to go to a place where the customer is made to feel like a pain or intrusion.
