Fell into Common Ground and could only stand to remain at the bar for 1 drink-- doesn't do justice to Ave A and a far cry from a ""cool hangout."" Not sure if the previous reviews...

What Surprise! 2/27/2006

I was here the past Friday for a bday party and was so pleasantly surprised that a place like Common Ground exsisted! Miller Lite on tap, among other great tap beers, board games, jukebox that actually plays your songs, comfortable atmosphere, great prices, quality service and interesting crowd! Gotta hand it to the owners, you've got it down pat! Will be back! Thanks for a great Friday night! more

I'll be back 1/12/2006

Not to sound redundant on the previous reviews, but this place is definitely worth a look. The ambiance is perfect for a relaxed Friday night, when you're not looking to fight for 20 minutes to get a drink. Very good service, nice social scene, and overall a good experience. I'll definitely check Common Ground out again in the future. more

I'll be back 12/30/2005

Dear Citysearch, I never thought this would happen to me...but I came across a bar in NYC that had good drink prices, reasonable food, and a good jukebox. There was no cover, no pretension, and no sawdust on the floor. I reccomend the Tomato, Mozzerella and Prosciutto panini. Pros: great jukebox, good food, beer selection more

check it out--I bet you'll have a good time. 12/4/2005

common ground is extremely comfortable bar with good food, friendly service, warm and tasteful decor. A friend and I decided to stop in to this new place in the village and ended up having a great time. We selected beers from the wide selection on tap and Bogle from the collection of games in the book shelf. and in no time we had met some new friends that wanted to play with us. The bartenders and waitresses made us feel at home and the prices were quite reasonable. more

New Favorite Local Bar 11/19/2005

Don't let the gorgeous, lush interior turn you away -- this is NOT an overpriced, overhyped ""lounge."" Common Ground is simply a great East Village bar with the good sense to not look and smell like the bathroom at CBGB's. (It looks like a late 19th century American mansion, replete with canvas-bound books and chandeliers.) The staff is awesome (the beauty of the interior is only rivaled by that of the waitresses), and the owner is usually lurking around to make sure everyone is having a good time. Bonuses: Board Games, Naked Photo Hunt, and a killer jukebox. Pros: Very Clean, Comfortable, Chill more

A welcome addition to the EV bar scene 11/18/2005

First review was so exuberant that citisearch wouldn't even publish it. That's how good this place is. Great new bar that's got everything you could ask for - great drink selection, good food, pleasant ambience, etc. Highly recommended. Pros: ambience, hospitality, pleasant crowd more

chill spot 11/18/2005

Basically a dive dressed up without the yuppie amateur drinkers that are taking the area. Worth a pint or 5. Good place to decompress, maybe catch a game. No pretention, fun staff (owner Dan is a riot) and a good juke. Pros: Bartenders, Jukebox, Relaxed crowd more

what a gem! 11/17/2005

stumbled across this bar last week and fell in love... ... with the bartenders. and the bar! it's just a great, relaxed bar in the east village. great food, board games to keep you busy, cute bartenders. overall, just a perfect bar experience. can't wait to go back! more

Will I Go Back? Hmm... 11/16/2005

Good music - check Lively, fun crowd - usually Good food - mmmm, panini's Reasonable prices - Bling, bling! Extra bonus points - very cool, relaxing atmosphere. Comfortable seating with great banquets and beautiful black marble bar. Oh yeah, and you can play the games - Battleship, Connect Four....it's on like Donkey Kong! Well folks, looks like I'll be back. Pros: Great draft selection, Very friendly staff, Clean more

my favorite new bar! 11/15/2005

It's so hard to find a place in the East Village that isnt too crowded, too loud, or too expensive. This place is everything I always want in a bar, and can never find under one roof. Great food, great jukebox (but you can still hear yourself think), and great friendly atmosphere. And Scrabble! What more could you want? more

Mirror, mirror on the wall 11/14/2005

Awesome new kid on the block. One of the best juke boxes (though I'm waiting for Cash), flat-screen TVs fit for the MOMA, paninis and those buttery/garlicky walnuts (oh my!), Clue and Connect Four for my competitive edge and that mirror (sadly, too big to steal) -- perfect after my 5th Guinness when I can squint and pretend I measure up to the off-the-runway, fairest bar staff of them all. Definitely my new local. Pros: friendly staff, great food, music Cons: no caviar on menu more

Just May Be The Perfect NYC Bar! 11/14/2005

I've lived in the East Village for almost 5 years now, and I've been waiting for a bar like this the whole time. Comfortable but not dive-y, sophisticated but not pretentious, fun and social but not overbearing... In less than a month since its opening, this bar really found a way to strike a perfect balance. Add the best juke box in town and delicious options for food, and I don't see a reason to go elsewhere... more

  • Come check us out. If the decor doesn't pull you in off the street, the staff, the food, the specials and the boardgames certainly will.

Blending the creature comforts of a lounge with the friendly atmosphere of a neighborhood pub, Common Ground stands out as a unique destination in the bustling East Village.

The large bay windows in front open to reveal cozy suede banquettes, antique mirrors and exposed brick. Wooden shelves stocked with leatherbound books are lit by crystal chandeliers, giving the feel of a classic library tucked within a 19th Century mansion.
