Great Place 3/1/2010

I've been to a couple of different boxing gym's in town and I've got to say that Church St. is head and shoulders above the rest. It is the real deal but there's no attitude. I thought that I might be intimidated training alongside competitive fighters but not at all. Great place & highly recommend it!. more

Don't expect to actually box 12/22/2009

O.K what they are doing here is not truly 'boxing'. It is bag hitting, and training for conditioning. I was here for two months, in that time I saw 2 sparring matches. That is ridiculous. 'Boxing' requires two people, in a ring, sparring. What they do here is just bag punching. The only people who do spar are those with personal boxing trainers who are not employed by the gym, they just pay to use the gym equipment and train their fighters. When I asked about sparring I was basically brushed off, and it became obvious that sparring was not part of the program their. A true boxing experience starts you off with rudimentary bag training then moves you slowly into sparring at an increasing pace. Great place if you want a 'boxing workout'. If you want to actually box, look elsewhere. Pros: good bag work Cons: hardly anyone spars, workouts never change more

Great gym in Lower Manhattan 8/26/2007

I was looking for a gym to get back into shape, but I didn't want any anonymous chain either. I was slightly apprehensive to start with - boxing wasn't my thing. However, my reservations were totally unfounded - Church Street is a friendly place, the staff are great - knowledgeable too - and made me feel completely comfortable. I'd recommend the gym to anybody that wants something slightly different from treadmills and bikes or somebody who's looking for a great workout...this is it. Lots of trains nearby too, so you don't have to live/work nearby. Great value too, especially for Manhattan!! Pros: Great gym, friendly staff & great value! more

Pros: trainers, all staff, personal attention more

You HAVE to try this place 2/12/2006

I had never tried boxing before I came to Church Street so I was a bit concerned that I might be a bit intimidated. I shouldn't have worried. The staff are amazing the membership program they have is really great for all levels - they have beginners right through to people fighting in the Golden Gloves - that will be me next year!! Just join up!! Pros: trainers, hours, inexpensive more

The BEST gym in NY!!! 2/11/2006

I LOVE Church street boxing gym. I have tried many gyms and workouts in NY (including many famous high-end gyms) and this gym is my favorite!!! Among many workouts I have tried, I found boxing/kickboxing is one of the most effective ways to tone/train your body. The program in this boxing gym is not like ""group exercise classes"" in boxing/kickboxing/cardio kickboxing at other standard gyms. You will get individual attention & instruction from extremely professional staffs (they are former pro-boxers). Check out M+I program at church st boxing gym website. Boxing gym might sound a bit intimidating at first, but I found the atmosphere is very comfortable and friendly. This gym is for everyone (I'm a female, btw)!!! I've never enjoyed my workout this much and now I am in the best shape in my life!!! This place is AWESOME!!! Pros: great workout & staff, excellent facilities, friendly environment Cons: none!!! more

This place is great. 12/15/2005

i've been exercising for more than 15 years, and Church Street Gym is the best. The staff are expert in making my workout interesting and i've never been in better shape than i am today. It's a great place for anyone that wants to learn to box and/or just enjoy the workout. There's unlimited instruction for members, any time, any day, and the instructors are professional boxers. Where else can you get that. You've got to come down and see it. There is a special $5.00 friday to introduce you to the gym. It's worth the trip. I can't get over it. It's definately the best gym I've ever joined. Pros: instruction, location, atmosphere more

Awsome workout 12/14/2005

Not your typical chi-chi gym. Great workout and can kick your but. Moses is the best trainer. He kicks my but, in a good way. Pros: close to train, fun, great workout more

Fabulous Gym! 10/16/2005

While on an extended stay in New York, I was fortunate to find The Church Street Boxing Gym. The staff are helpful & enthusiastic. They are really encouraging & I was soon hooked on this all 'round workout. I would strongly recommend Church Street & hope I can find somewhere as good back in London. Pros: Staff, Fabulous workout!, Fun! Cons: Not in London! more

I was looking for a way to get back into shape after having a baby and this gym was a great find! Everyone is very friendly, trainers are great motivators and it is very affordable. Also I was not intimidated (being a woman) as it is friendly to both men and women of all experience levels (I did not have any) Overall a great experienece! Pros: great value, excellent trainers, friendly staff more

User review by vincentcorrado 9/25/2005

They have a really easy atmosphere to train in and they got me into great shape. Boxing is as hard as it seems, but the trainers are great and it is awesome to train on the same floor with the professionals. Pros: Real boxing gym, Good Pricing, Great Staff Cons: No towels more

Stop looking for a new gym..you've just found it 9/25/2005

I LOVE Church Street. Where do I start..the workout is incredible, I've never been pushed so hard but enjoyed it so much. The gym is so welcoming, I was worried as a girl going into a boxing gym, but I can honestly say I feel completly safe and at home - there are not many gyms where you'd feel safe leaving your bag on the floor. The Membership with Instruction program is such good value for money - I did my research and this really is SO MUCH cheaper than other boxing gyms. But the best thing is this is a REAL boxing gym, not just one of those ""pretend"" tough places, you really may be jumping rope next to a professional boxer, it's exciting. One last thing..you have to check out the events they put on - boxing, dj's, beer - it's a great place to meet new people! Pros: welcoming, amazing workout, reasonably priced Cons: bring your own towel more

Church Street - best boxing gym in New York 9/24/2005

I've been going to Church Street for the past nine months and have gotten into the best shape of my life. They keep you motivated and focused on working out - this is a serious gym. I used to work out at another boxing/karate gym in the city and gave up on it because equipment was always missing/broken and no one seemed to care - staff turned over way too quickly. At Church Street the setting is fun but focused - everyone is there for the same purpose and the staff/management reflects that. The cool thing is you've got Golden Glove boxers training alongside average-Joes - its hard to slack off in this enviroment but I also found it to be welcoming to newcomers as long as you're there to put your work in. Pros: Staff/Training, Environment, Equipment Cons: Location more

Best Boxing Gym in NYC 9/18/2005

You have to go to Church Street. I don't remember ever enjoying a workout so much. The staff are all knowledgeable, experienced and friendly. The gym itself is clean and well equipped. The membership package is well worth the money in fact I checked out other gym's in NYC and this really is the most reasonably priced. Try it, you'll love it! more
