Nice selection of merchandise, but the service is terrible.

Great Experience 10/24/2011

I'm not sure if I came in on a day that the staff was in a good mood, but I received wonderful customer service. Plus, the shop is locally owned (and I prefer to support local) so I understand the return policy and such. Good selection as well. more

Go Elsewhere 2/3/2011

Decent selection, ok prices. The staff, however, was terrible. The woman at the check out was rude and dismissive and charged me the wrong amount for all three items I bought! This was my first time at Broadway Panhandler, and definitely my last. more

Bad Customer Service 10/29/2008

I used to really like this place and even though I knew I could buy the Lecruset saute pan for 10% less at Zabars I still went there thinking that they were worth supporting with my business. Pros: close to R train Cons: Lousy Customer Service more

Bring back the old staff 2/3/2008

The other reviews on the site get to the the problem of this place: Pros: Convenient to shoppers in the Village Cons: tight, crowded store; needs more space more

cool merchandise, out-to-lunch staff 7/22/2007

I called before going to the store to ask about an item. The staff member was very nice on the phone--but when I got home after making the purchase, it turned out he had given me the wrong information, so I ended up with something different from what I had paid for. more

Lazy, lousy, and lame staff 6/15/2007

I remember when this store used to be in Soho. Back then the staff knew the products and wanted to help. Unfortunately with the staff in the new store those days are long gone. It is a shame because the store is walking distance from my home. The only reason why I gave this store 2 stars is only because I do like the products and from time to time they do offer lower prices. I have shopped at this store several times so my experiences with this staff is not a one time thing. Hmm...let me give you a few examples. Walked in and asked for help finding a Le Creuset wok (on sale), staff said be right back (male), saw him walk right out the store and smoke a cigarette. Another time waiting on line at the register, cashier who was at the register did not ask to ring up my sale because she needed to wait two more minutes for her break. Another time my wife was looking for the Le Creuset grill pan asked someone on the floor to get the pan so she could purchase it. Waited for over fifteen minutes only to see this same person hanging out with another staff member. She walked up to him and asked if the pan was in stock. His answer, oh right....the pan, let me look. And finally the reason why I will never go back to this store and give them my money, I went to the store at 6:57, three minutes before closing and (maybe the manager) closes the door on my face and says store is closed. I run 21 retail stores. I am in this business for over 20 years and never done what this person did. Only if my POS (point of sale) servers where shut off (then not able to do sales) would I not let someone in, even if they showed up thirty minutes after store closing I would help the customer out. I feel bad for the owner to have such a staff, hope he or she knows about this. Maybe my review seems harsh, but I get much better service and consideration at the competitors. I hope other customers had better experiences. The staff is just plain lazy, lousy, lame. Pros: Location, sometime sales Cons: really pathetic staff more
