Yummy Vegan Food! 8/23/2011

Wonderful fresh organic food 9/3/2010

Since changing to a healthier way of living, I have been hocked to organic restaurants in NY. My favorite one is hands down Blossom. Their vegan dishes are so tasty and a true joy for my taste senses. My favorite dishes are the Soy Bacon Cheeseburger and Crispy Thai Tofu. more

Closed?? 8/23/2010

I came with a group of people from out of town and tried to get a table (weekend) so far so good... once I found my way in I was told they are closed... midday? break time? I didn't get a chance to try this place. more

Poor excuse for haute cousine 6/1/2010

I visited this restaurant a few times back in 08 and 09, and always left in a bad mood. The service is unfriendly and unhelpful. The food is bland and unhealthy despite being vegan. The gnocchi was OK but really no better than what you can buy in a grocery store. Extremely overpriced and overhyped fried food and tasteless dessert. Cons: food, service more

Hire a cook 5/16/2009

Tofu Scramble...a greasy mash up. I eat tofu all the time. I know how to cook. You don't just chuck it all together in a pan with oil and fry everything to death. The salid (which was fresh) was covered in oil-based dressing. The veggies in the tofu tasted off. OK, thought I must have ordered the wrong thing. So tried my buddies burger. You know, running to a store and buying a frozen patty and throwing some soy cheese on it is neither creative nor appealing. The bun was store bought. Bland and tasteless. Could be we had a bad day (place was empty) Fries were good. Music was bad. I found my dish unedable and left without eating more than a few fork fulls. I had not eaten since yesterday. Cervantes says that hunger makes a great sauce, but I preferred to go hungry. Pros: Yes, it is vegetarian Cons: They ruin food by cooking it badly more

A late-'90s attitude..... 5/13/2009

Since I dine solo a lot, how I'm treated as a ""table for one"" is the real test of a restaurant for me. Blossom failed miserably. Quickly: I was ignored at the door after a couple ahead of me was cheerfully greeted and seated; though the restaurant was 3/4 empty, I was told there were no tables; an obnoxious greeter thought it would be more interesting to check his texts than answer a couple of questions. I used to encounter a lot of this in the late '90s; Blossom, unfortunately, still feels like that kind of cliche. more

delicious vegetarian 11/24/2008

I've been to blossom a couple of times for brunch. The food is excellent- i've even taken a skeptical non-vegetarian, and he was completely satisfied with his meal. Definitely more flavor than one would normally expect from a vegetarian restaurant. more

Excellent food! Excellent experience! 10/16/2008

This was our first trip to New York we went to celebrate our daughter?s birthday. She is vegan so Blossoms sounded like the perfect place to celebrate her birthday. We have very few vegan restaurants where we live, and none compare to the quality and taste we found here. The rest of the family wasn?t sure what to expect as it was our first vegan meal experience. The food, the service the entire experience was perfect! We started with Ravioli with Cashew Cream and Champinones Medley. Unbelievable! Exceptional flavor! The Chili, Feijoadinha, Phyllo Roulade were incredible, full of flavor, with excellent taste. The desserts were absolutely delicious, sinful just as they should be. All the dishes we tried were superb. We did not find the prices unreasonable at all, the portions were very generous, even took home a doggy bag. Well worth the visit, will defiantly return to Blossoms our next visit to New York! more

Fabulous 4/10/2008

I am not a vegan or vegetarian but my sister is. I took her to Blossom for her birthday and I was sure that even if I liked the food I would miss meat. I was so wrong. This restaurant is one of the best I have ever eaten at. Everything was very tasty. The reviews below that suggest small portions are inaccurate. My sister and I split two appetizers and could barely finish them. We each had to bring a portion of our entrees home because we were so full. I had it the next day for lunch and was reminded of why I enjoyed myself so much the night before. Pros: Extemely tasty food, large portions, staff, quiet, and comfortable more

Very tasty food but I agree the servings are too small for the prices. 1/10/2008

Simply had Ceasar salad and an appy, Ravioli with Cashew Sauce and each was EXTREMELY tasty, and with the most amazing dressing I've ever had on a ceasar sald. But, as described in an older review, the portions were quite paltry (but well presented). I was EXTREMELY offended however, at the outrage of being asked if I want tap or bottled water (what would you choose in NYC?), and receive a delightful tall fashionable glass bottle of VOSS water is served, along with a $7 price tag.... Hey, it's NYC. Pros: Tasty food, unique blends of flavors make you not miss meat. Cons: Pricy, Pricy, Pricy... and Skimpy Skimpy Skimpy. more

Great Food 12/29/2007

Not a pure vegetarian, but my date was. this place was very good. I am usually a meat and potatoes kind of guy and figured I wouldn't enjoy the food. I have to say I didn't expect it, and the service was outstanding. will recommended this place to anyone. Pros: good atmosphere Cons: a little pricey more

yummy vegan fare 11/6/2007

First off, let me say that I am not a vegetarian, much less a vegan, but I loved Blossom. The food is inventive and delicious. The organic wine list is great. They have a very friendly staff and the service was wonderful. I read the below review before I made the reservation but didn't find that the music was overly offensive or too loud. Quite the opposite actually. I really felt that the music went with the overall vibe of the place. I would strongly recommend making a reservation since I had dinner there on a Monday night and it was packed. Pros: ambience, service, organic wines, delicious food Cons: small space more

great but spotty 11/4/2007

As others have mentioned, for upscale vegan/vegetarian places there aren't many choices in NY, but this is a good one. Our food was quite good - even my skeptical carnivorous parents enjoyed their meals a good deal. However, one unfortunate factor almost tainted our dinner - the music was loud and terrible - completely out of sync with the ambiance of a fine restaurant. We made reservations and requested a quiet table (for my hard of hearing parents) . We were seated at a large table directly under a speaker which was blasting classic rock (Lynrd Skynrd, Boston, Thin Lizzy) so loud that even I couldn't hear the person next to me or be heard without shouting. It was unbearable. Pros: Excellent Food, Nice waitstaff Cons: Rude manager (or host). Loud, inappropriate dinner music more

Great food, less than great atmosphere and service. 7/10/2007

Blossom is the #2 spot in NYC for fine vegan dining. The food is consistently fabulous but it will never top Candle 79 (way uptown on East. 79th St.) because the atmosphere and service are consistently lame. I'm not saying you can't have a good meal, but there's always something amiss -- it's either too loud or too hot or too cold or the waiter never comes. Pros: Great food Cons: Not great atmosphere or service more

very tasty...but not on par with similar nyc veg restaurants 7/9/2007

To understand my rating, it's important to note that blossom is moreso in the category of 'vegetarian fine dining' as opposed to general vegetarian eating... Compared to the many vegetarian greasy spoons in nyc, blossom is outstanding. But this isn't the kind of place you will just pop into on a whim any ole day. It is better compared with restaurants such as the 2 candle restaurants, pure food and wine, and, maybe, counter. I found the ambience and service to be good...a nice place to bring a date you hope to impress! but, if you're going to spend the money for the fine-dining aspect, i honestly felt that all the aps, entres, deserts, and even ambience fell short of the quality and creativity you'll find in similar high-end vegetarian restaurants in nyc. Pros: tasty, good ambience and service Cons: not quite as good as similar high-end veg restaurants more

horribly rude, the worst service ever in NYC 4/28/2007

i ate here once before, recieving O.K. service at best. The 'wine' was $50 a bottle, at 5% content tasted like very expensive juice. A mexican dish tasted like it was out of a can, considering the $25 price tag. Just a bunch of vegetables with a single taste of tobasco. more

Must Go here! Vegetarian or Not! 3/13/2007

Yummy., healthy food! You will feel like to detoxed and re-energized. The flavors are unique and the preparation of food is extremely impressive. Pros: healthy, tasty, clean more

Small Servings 9/24/2006

Although the food was good, beware the servings are very small. I was dissapointed to have read other citysearch reviews for this restaurant and no one else mentioned the incredibly small sizes of the meals. The prices for this place seem reasonable until you see what you are getting. If you want a tiny meal that tastes good by all means go to Blossom...or order everything off the menu and you get one standard dinner. I myself am not generally a big eater by any means, but I left Blossom still hungry. Pros: Nice atmosphere, good tasting food and wine Cons: meals are far too small and based on that the the prices are too high. more

Comfy place, perfect atmosphere 7/29/2006

Though I'm not a vegetarian, Blossom goes into my rotation of regular neighborhood haunts for good food, good service and good vibe. Dishes are inventive and above average and the place is perfect for a low-key, relaxing meal. Lighting and decor are subtle and soothing, and even when crowded, the place is never ""noisy."" Wait staff is smart, capable, in tune with customers, and just the right amount of friendliness and professionalism. Pros: Great food, service and ambience more

Editorial
  • In Short
This cute cafe imbues its corner of Ninth Avenue with an inviting homeyness worthy of an antique shop. The carb-heavy breakfast, lunch and dinner menus elevate humble quiches, crepes, pasta, and pizza with interesting ingredients. Ravioli are stuffed with lobster, pizza is topped with prosciutto, and crepes come with a variety of fillings, including strawberries, bananas or Nutella. Other sweet temptations come in the form of pumpkin cheesecake and shakes.
